@Alec Brownscombe Alec - when a door closes another door opens. Broke up with old girl friend after 4-5 years - 2 weeks later started going out with a new girl. That is 22 years and two kids ago.

@Leafs_17 @Great Dane@Alec Brownscombe To save money and collect picks to build a team around Seth Jones and McDavid.

@Cameron19 I see two reason for Preds to trade Weber now: 1) Economic 60 million over the next 4 year is a lot of money for Weber. 2) McDavid is the price to get in the next draft and Weber like Sundin would keep them from falling to the bottom. That is going to be fierce competition next season between Oilers, Sabres, Isles and Preds without Weber.
So Preds will get the best return, but I am sure that the Preds is complete that the team that gets Weber will be that much closer to Stanley Cup. This is where the good relationship with the Preds plays a role.
60 million over 4 years is a lot for money for most teams except Leafs and one or two more.

@mlclearwater There is only a few teams that are economic super power in the NHL and we have good relationship with Nashville. We helped them with money before in the Lebda trade.
@Alec Brownscombe This could go down in the summer.
The deal makes too much economic sense for both parts of the trade.
If Reimer plays well they might even be able to move Rinne and his 7 million cap hit.
Why Leiweke and Nonis will get us Weber in the summer.
Webers cap hit over his contract is 7.857 million AVV and after this season another 94 million still needs to get paid. Predators will probably miss the playoff again so they will loose a lot of money.
So in comes Leafs to the rescue. We can play not a problem but Leafs do not like the cap hit - so Nashville keep 1.357 million.
A cap hit for Leafs at 6.5 million for Weber is really good. Predators get 1.357 million to cap floor and since they always is cap floor/budget team it really doesn't matter for them. But - this is the clue to this trade - they save 60 million in real money over the next 4 years.
What would it cost us Gardiner, Reimer, 1st round 2015, Biggs
@CanuckUKinToronto @mlclearwater I disagree on Gunnar, another top 2-man would push gunnar down the depth.
On a contender Gunnar is an OK Top 2 d-man, but he is a great top 4 d-man.

@Pent_House Some of the team bloggers are actually quite good.
What I really find interesting is the fact that other teams blogger agree that we might only be a couple of players away from being a true contender.
Getting Stastny and another winger in the summer while converting Franson + Reimer into a top 2 d-man would bring us very close to the target.
James Tanner - excellent assessment of the Leafs and why doing nothing Nonis outperformed at the deadline.
@mlclearwater Well - loss or no loss I haven't changed my view that Carlyle is the one that is holding this team back.
2 days, 12 hours ago on The Maple Leafs did nothing, and that’s all right
No reason to waste assets on the rental players.
The only interesting player that would hit UFA this summer is Stastny, which I a good addition especially if he would sign as a UFA.
On the defense, Nonis need to make a trade nobody would be UFA is summer that would improve our defense.
Then on another note Tavares - how long is he willing to stay at the lighthouse where there is absolutely no light in the lighthouse keeper.
@Shift_Disturber1 This is absolutely maddening to watch. Could the real Leafs please stand up
3 days, 11 hours ago on Deadline Day Recap: Nope, nothing was doing in Leafland
@APetrielli I think they'd be a contender in this horrible East with one move: firing Carlyle
Nonis should try to get Eller out of Montreal. Last center we got was pretty good
3 days, 17 hours ago on NHL Trade Deadline Day: Is there anything doing in Leafland?
If we could get justin peters in Carolina then Nonis could package Reimer with a another asset to get an impact player
@ingy56 I am not certain that Gilles is in control anymore
Reimer and Franson for Maatta would be a good deal for both teams
is Sportsnet or TSN streaming already? if so, do you have a link
@Burtonboy @Great Dane@4evrblue I am talking about what would have been the cap space if McL and Orr hadn't been on the roster most of the season.
All because Carlyle wanted those players.
now we only have 4.1 million - A huge mistake
