@Mapleswede @Great Dane @DeclanK @vinoa @TorontoMapleLeafs the big difference is that Lindström was 29; Nylander is 18

@DeclanK @Great Dane @vinoa @Mapleswede @TorontoMapleLeafs Absolutely not and if he can do that as 18 year old. Well something to look forward to, just matching Backstrom would be great

@vinoa @Mapleswede @TorontoMapleLeafs You should compare Nylander to someone like Backstrom and what he did at the same age in the SHL.

Backstrom had 10 g 16a at 18 in 46 games.

If Nylander can do better we could be very lucky

Niclas Backstrom as 18 years old playing for Brynäs made 10 goals and 16 assists in 46 games. So if Nylander can keep around a ppg it would be fantastic.

Nylander has now 6 points in 4 games. He is 2 points from being the top scorer on Modo. The top point getter has 8 but in 14 games.

@sniperstar @peterbleafs @ingy56 @Great Dane  Kessel would defensively be so much better with a real top center.

Neither Kadri or Bozak will ever be able to do that.

@peterbleafs @ingy56 @Great Dane  So true. I'm getting more and more convinced that we need to move Lupul, Bozak and Kadri. Kadri has tons of skill - but I'm missing something.

@ingy56 @Great Dane @peterbleafs That clear change in culture in core is very much required. Is that the answer you are looking for.

@ingy56 @Great Dane @peterbleafs Unfortunately it is. we need to look beyond the fact that Kessel and Bernier can safe our bacon from time to time.

What I do like is Komo, Santo, Clarkson and Winnik.

So back to 50%, is that good news??????

Not in my book. The Leafs are still giving up way too many shoots. Doesn't matter that they lead a game, they have to be able to close the door on the other team.

Three victories have come from: 2 wins where the goalies Lundquist and Halak have had horrible games and 1 win against a team that is worse than Leafs in holding on to the puck.

We are back to last season where everything is dependent on Kessel and Bernier playing at an all-star level.

However, the third line is really good and a new management team is taking form.

Now is the time to clean the roster and let us finally move on, on to a sustainable path.

@Burtonboy @ProfessorRance First things first. Clean the roster of the older unengaged players.

Trade them for young prospects with talent and high work ethics.

@Burtonboy  We should keep the third line to show the kids how to play hockey as a pro. Sell the rest and go all in at the draft.

@Burtonboy @Cameron19 He blew it because he was never able to get the pieces that Leafs needed to make the Kessel deal a success.

@Cameron19 @Burtonboy It is the only way forward. We know that this years draft is fully stocked, but what about next year how is that looking.

3 days, 21 hours ago on Monday Mashup: Taking on the toughs

Reply

@Burtonboy @Great Dane One that hope they still will make, but realistically only our own pick. So we need to sell in a hurry.

Then bring up as many Marlies as possible: Carrick, Loov, Granberg, Holzer ,Nilsson, Leivo.

@Burtonboy @Great Dane  I hear you and agree in general. We simply need to take one or two in basement of league to get two center of high quality.

Moving Phaneuf and Co. (not Kessel) will achieve this.

Cam had an excellent post below on the state of the Leafs. As much as it hurts me to say so, it is time so make a rebuild.

Right now we have a third line that delivers and is working well. Winnik as a great addition, but he should play on the fourth line.

Beyond that is it far from pretty.

The strategic plan would be to sell Lupul, Phaneuf, Franson, Robidas, Polak, Bozak and Reimer as soon as possible. Sell all on one year contracts at the trade deadline, take back expiring contracts for picks or prospects.

Strongly consider moving Kessel at the draft or in summer.

Hopefully draft very high and at least 2 times in the first round.
