@Zeus_WilliamMapleLeafs @Great Dane @mr_hanie Something like that and you can not get a top 3 pick two years in a row.

@Omac13 @Great Dane @Mcost61 Kessel with the right leadership on the team could fulfill that role.

Kessel can score the critical goals and be a gamechanger, but Leafs need to find the right players around him and that is not Bozak or Kadri.

@vinoa @Great Dane @Bruffins if average is 33 and standard deviation is around 5 then 10 shots is statistically significant even in such a small sample.

The observation is more than 4 times the standard deviation from the average this have a probability in a normal distribution of 0.00001 or will happen in one of 10,000 games.

Let us not get too exited about this win. We played the Sabres and for 38 minutes the Leafs couldn't score. Sabres had only 10 shots on goal. Because Leafs didn't allow them or because they are bad. Most likely something in between.

The 5 on 3 was awful to watch, so nothing really to cheer about there.

The good news - or rather it is old news - it is Kessel and the younger players that are driving the Leafs. We clearly need to focus on that bring in more talent and quality to support them.

Shanahan and Nonis need to move players if we get any small upswing in the performance of the Leafs.

@Burtonboy Nill has been the GM for the Stars since 2013 and in that time he has traded for both Seguin and Spezza.

We are still banking on Bozak and Kadri.

Damn, I am getting desperate

@Bring the Cup Home @Great Dane  We should hopefully draft one or two more the next 2 years as well as convert current assets into another 1 or 2 young a-level prospects.

There is an urgent need to change the group dynamic

If Shanahan takes the decision to make an extended overhaul of the roster, Rogers and Bell will have to  McDavid or Eichel going the Leafs.

They invested too much money not to have a story to the MSM

Taking an fair assessment on the current state of the Leafs the core group and the talent we have collect, my best estimate would be that Leafs start to be competitive from 2018-19 season. Maybe a year earlier if we are lucky.

Reilly would then be around 24 and the rest of the d-men around the same age. Nylander, Johnson, Brown would be a couple of years younger.

@Anthony Petrielli @Great Dane @peterbleafs @Pent_House Exactly Anthony, so they must be working on something.

We should hopefully draft either McDavid or Eichel, but that should be followed be acquiring some proven two-way center play on the first two line.

@Anthony Petrielli @peterbleafs @Pent_House To be honest the time for panic was last season.

If management do not have a clear picture of the current situation and not already working on their game plan for the future, then we are in a really bad situation.

Since March nothing fundamental has changed. However, two things should be pointed out:

1) The new players like Santo, Komo and Winnik have lifted the 3rd line.

2) That effect is totally eliminate by the fact that the 1st and 2nd line have gone missing in action.

Just to get started from previous blog:

Carlyle, players and management are they all working for the same team. I have my doubts.

The last comments from RC in relation to Dubas yesterday, sending Percy down, Lupul stating that some thing is seriously wrong:

Leafs is the GUFFY show of the NHL.

Never seen anything like this before. They can't even pretend to work for the same team.

2 days ago on Leafs Notebook – October 28

@MaxwellHowe We need to do that ASAP. Moving Lupul, Phaneuf, Franson, Bozak will alone create around 20 million in cap space.

Net you would get around 10 million now, but at the trade deadline that would equal around 20 million in cap space.

AP - was always an excellent read, however I do miss a bit of bite in this blog, something that you usually have.

Blow up or not, is in my humble opinion not the question. The real question is:  How to determine that is future of he Leafs and how management wants them to play.

We like great goals, up tempo play attacking hockey i.e. we want a player like Kessel to thrill the fan base.

Scoring check - defensive play not so checked and physicality also not so checked.

GIven that you want Kessel, then it is obvious that you can not play Bozak and Kadri up the middle. Because you need two two-way centers that can control the defensive game.

Same with age group: When do you have a core group that is good enough. Again Leafs have no idea what they want to do:

Lupul, Franson, Bozak Phanuef are all around 30

Kessel is mid 20, while JVR and the rest of young talented players are 24 or less.

Again what is the vision - where is the window of opportunity.

Reply

@Alec Brownscombe @mike_84 AB - that is the alternative to a scorched earth rebuild. Up front I would keep JVR and Kessel. In the future they would be on two different lines.

Winnik, Komo, Clarkson, maybe Santo should stay.

On D: keep Reilly, Robidas.

In goal: Sign Bernier to contract extension otherwise trade him

I would like to make a deal with Anaheim for Lindholm plus Ritchie for Phaneuf, Ashton and 3rd round pick.

Kadri young top player something like Kadri + something for Eberle.

reimer doesn't have a lot of value

@Darkside Beleafer @MaxwellHowe @Great Dane Something like that: Pressure the center; puck into the corner; Leafs will swarm the puck; if the opponent wins the board battle he makes a cross ice pass into the open space for a scoring chance; if the Leafs win they dump it along the boards; pick it up at the blue line make a pass cross the ice for scoring chance; IF no goal - do it all again.

Not difficult to play the Leafs. And at the ACC they are afraid of their own shadows
