Bozak line makes ALL our D look bad

WHo's the better late game, Sharks&Philly or LA&Bos?

@hometeem @Leafbites Obviously, team success will be more relative to the team's most prolific scorer.

The top line probably spends %60, maybe more, in their own end, on a nightly basis. This team's winning percentage goes up exponentially when Phil gets on the scorecard. Theoretically, if Phil were spending more time in the offensive zone, his numbers and the teams likelihood for a positive outcome would also see a slight increase.

Though, on off nights Phil is guilty of committing a lot of egregious turnovers. In which case, more possession may be detrimental. It's a fine line.

@Mcost61 I think folks would be wise to start tuning out Dreger, who undoubtably gets his kicks from tossing grenades onto Leafland.

@Whalz Staal would rot in Raleigh before I'd give up a player like Kadri, on the incline, versus Staal, going in the opposite direction. That would be just poor mgmt.

@Burtonboy @Leafbites That's right, he'd be more effective with better possession wingers, as would the Phil and JVR be more effective with a better possession centre.

@hometeem @Leafbites That trio are very likely the weakest three defensively players on the team. However, with this talent on the wings, I'd like to see a more defensively responsible centre for this group.

And yes, he is a weak link in his position.

I'm typically a Bozak critic, mostly for what I perceive as a lack of desire or intensity on a night to night basis (as adv stats prove), but I have no problem giving him props for this seasons' body of work–mainly as an offensive producer and face-off machine.  However, in terms of improvement up the middle for the Leafs, it's Kadri's game that has stood out for me. While Bozak doesn't capitulate to the talent of his running mates in the attacking zone, his defensive awareness leaves this unit vulnerable on the best of nights.

@Bruffins @BoneChompski @Burtonboy To paraphrase the best quote from Burke interview: media outlets in other cities (Calgary), will criticize and not whitewash, but generally want the team to do well...but this is not the case in Toronto. EXACTLY!

The players tune out Randy–is this supposed to be new news? Not from my vantage point.

Yep, one to forget, for sure. But folks need to relax a bit, it's only hockey.

As much as I enjoy MLHS, game threads are becoming unbearable. Grown men that sound worse than my teenage daughters, whining over every little play on the ice. Trade this guy, trade that guy...I say grow up.

@newkb Fine, but the other units had no probably generating offence, as well, and these other combinations were getting more o-zone time, overall–making the game a lot less adventurous for our D and goaltenders.

@newkb Not sure how anyone believes that this line combo works. They generate a few chances off the rush and spend most of the night in the defensive zone.

1 month, 1 week ago on Tuesday Mashup: Bruins Wednesday

Reply

@loomx @newkb I'm with you, that top line is probably the worst defensive line in hockey. We get almost no 4-line momentum with these combos, mush less of a forecheck/cycling game and overall, way less o zone time as a group.

Nice win last night, but I still believe for this team to have any success, they'll need to roll with a balanced line up that has a defensive presence and/or a cycling, forechecking presence on every line.

Carlyle going back to minimally using the 4th line and overusing Bozak and Dion is a recipe for disaster–not sure how many times we have to go down this road?
