It seems the Toronto MSM takes direction from the hockey masses that loathe the Maple Leafs, and take pleasure in their failings. It's too easy for them to assimilate with this massive base of hockey fans. This is why so many GMs, players, and Babcocks use this organization as a negotiation tactic for contracts, they know that the Toronto MSM are working against the betterment of the Leafs and for the improvement of everyone else.

@PepTalk @Leafbites I don't think you'll hear another whisper from the Leafs camp until the end of the season, but I do think Nonis is a dead man walking.

It's possible that none of the guys with term contracts were dealt because Shanny plans to can Nonis and would rather someone else do the nuking. The legions of nonis detractors are possibly getting all riled up for nothing with this inactivity.

Good deal. Good luck to Winnick, if you end up facing the habs, please feel obliged to run Price early in the season at the Bell.

I'd keep Robidas for a vet presence on the blue line over Polak. I'd deal this guy at the deadline if he's garnering the interest that's being reported. Him, Bozak and Winnick should all get new homes by March.

Thanks, AP. I wouldn't really give a damn if we got anything for Bozak as long as it doesn't include a salary dump with term. If we're offered a 2nd, take it and run.

I think the most satisfying aspect of this tank job, even more than the idea of a high draft pick, is watching fans of other teams and media get more and more nauseous with the prospect of the Leafs winning the lottery, as percentages inch up.

For a team like the Ducks that have room for Dion's contract, and he'd be a very good fit with them, this injury getting him rested for the stretch may make him even a little more intriguing.

I just want these boardroom idiots to attain at least one solid asset in return for each jettisoned between now and Bettsy @ the BB&T, and forget this multiple asset nonsense; a boatload isn't the best catch here, but rather a young legitimate(s) and 3 or 4 significant draft positions.

@peterbleafs I would say ride Bernier if you want to finish bottom 6. That said, with a few bounces here and there, these guys are playing well enough to reel off a couple of win streaks to close out, especially now without any playoff pressure. The thought of playing .500 or above down the stretch and this being a Carey Price for the Conn Smyth year are possibly giving me an ulcer.

I don't put much stock in the draft at this point, Leafs will get a little healthier and likely won't make any kind of major moves until after the season. They can still be good enough to land outside of the top 10. They might even start getting some consistent goaltending.

What do I believe? I think the players themselves want this train wreck ripped apart just as much as the fans. Playing on this team for the past few years must be like a nightmare that never ends.

And Kessel, just go get a start on the golf season already, why even bother closing this campaign out. Watching you and your roomie make my eyes bleed. And that's from watching only about 3 of the last 10 games– my interest in this debacle is waning more by the day.

'Carlyle canned', not exactly out of left field. But I have to say I'm unimpressed with Phil picking today to engage the way he did, no matter who or how he was provoked (I despise MSM like the rest). This guy has got to pull his socks up and start bringing some urgency to his game.

@hometeem @Leafbites Obviously, team success will be more relative to the team's most prolific scorer.

The top line probably spends %60, maybe more, in their own end, on a nightly basis. This team's winning percentage goes up exponentially when Phil gets on the scorecard. Theoretically, if Phil were spending more time in the offensive zone, his numbers and the teams likelihood for a positive outcome would also see a slight increase.

Though, on off nights Phil is guilty of committing a lot of egregious turnovers. In which case, more possession may be detrimental. It's a fine line.

@Burtonboy @Leafbites That's right, he'd be more effective with better possession wingers, as would the Phil and JVR be more effective with a better possession centre.

@hometeem @Leafbites That trio are very likely the weakest three defensively players on the team. However, with this talent on the wings, I'd like to see a more defensively responsible centre for this group.

And yes, he is a weak link in his position.

I'm typically a Bozak critic, mostly for what I perceive as a lack of desire or intensity on a night to night basis (as adv stats prove), but I have no problem giving him props for this seasons' body of work–mainly as an offensive producer and face-off machine.  However, in terms of improvement up the middle for the Leafs, it's Kadri's game that has stood out for me. While Bozak doesn't capitulate to the talent of his running mates in the attacking zone, his defensive awareness leaves this unit vulnerable on the best of nights.
