@DeclanK

I'm familiar with this. Surprises people that a lot of players have their career best seasons earlier that one would think, however I haven't found 31/32 to be a time when all players should hang up the skates because they are useless. That was the suggestion someone made with Clowe, rightly or wrongly. I certainly don't expect him to hit the heights but with good health could still be a reasonably productive player and fill a role for another couple of years.

Yep, former 60+ point player, but bottom line, how is a guy that just ran at a 50 points pace, definitively "washed up"? No argument that he has slowed down.

I really have no idea what next season will hold for Clowe.

@philthethrill  Looks like it's the biggest concern although neither of the "head injuries" (2013/14) appear to be the direct result of a fight.

It was suggested earlier that Ryane Clowe is washed up. Maybe he is, I don't know. But the only "proof" presented was that he had 7 goals and 33 PIM in his 1st season with NJ, suggesting that he is no longer productive and doesn't fight.

I'm not interested in what weight class he belongs but the question of whether he is indeed washed up.

Turns 32 just before the start of the season on the 2nd year of a 5 year deal. Lou Lamoriello was willing to bet Clowe has something left in the tank, giving him $4.85M per year to replace Clarkson. Age wise I usually don't consider 32 to be when a forward may hit a severe decline. More likely 34 or 35 to me. I'm sure some will think general wear and tear/style of play is affecting Clowe. I think the biggest factor for Clowe this coming season will be how the season ending "head injury" affects him.

Yes, Clowe missed 39 games last year, all listed "head injury". Two separate occasions, 32 followed by 7 games. So a full season should translate to a few more goals. What was also left out was that Clowe had 26 points in his 43 games. Over 82 games that is 49.58 points. Since when is a player with the potential to put up 50 points, washed up?

Of the 33PIM, he only took 4 minors. The other 25min. were 5 fights, most of any player on the Devils.

Clowe may have more to offer if he doesn't suffer lingering effects from the "head injury". He did have 25 points (7 goals) in 37 games after bouncing back from the first 32 game setback.

Another thing I notice in highlights of games 6 & 7 is that Kadri with Kessel and JVR are putting up points and generating chances, which goes against the blanket assessment that "Kadri doesn't work with Kessel".

Still don't know why the coaches kept Kadri off the ice for the last 5 minutes and 30 seconds of the 3rd period of game 7.

Thing is, I could see it as a reasonable conversation between gay people.

Seems borderline to me but not disrespectful.

I don't think your interest in the subject is stupid or that you are an idiot as has been suggested, but I don't have any knowledge on the subject and can't further the discussion at this time.

Apparently some are only interested in thinking outside the box if it's within their comfort zone.  If you can play you can play.

One thing people forget when they say Franson or Gunnarsson could have sat a few games to rest, while bringing up a Marlie, is that we literally had no cap room. If we wanted to sit out a player for 3 or 4 games it would add to our cap with no cap relief for the sitting vet.

We would have had to put someone on LTIR for 10 games or 24 days to get relief and that wasn't practical. Our particular cap squeeze last year made it almost impossible to call someone up from the Marlies.

The idea that someone would enjoy getting a paycheque for doing nothing instead of working at a job they love is absurd and a notion mostly held by schmucks who hate their jobs.

Don't recall Burke's exact words. He did say we need 8 NHL capable defencemen for the season but I don't think his intention was to have them all on the 23 man roster at the same time. For most of his time here we were a classic 14 F/ 7 D team with potential call-ups on the Marlies. Management appears to have decided to move on from Franson and use right side callups as injury replacements and try to get one more left side D.

For all the hits that Franson is credited with he doesn't do much damage. I don't think of him as a feared hitter that makes other players pay. That's what I take from my visual, beyond the numbers.

People generally do not write off 2nd rounders as a waste of time. Most do acknowledge that only 25 to 30% will play 200 or more games in the NHL. And a player can have a 200 game career and not make much of a mark.

But if this is in reference to trading Franson, it seems this team, as structured, would benefit more from adding working pieces, somewhat developed players where possible, than 2nd or 3rd round picks that probably won't contribute for another 4, 5, 6 years.

Haven't heard anything but it always seemed to me it would come down to the Leafs or Sweden even though the Marlies were the obvious popular choice for us. There is still a challenge for him to develop without riding the buses on an ahl salary.

EDIT: He's only played 22 games with MODO.
