@JMAC17 A long term deal would be ideal I agree, but that is why we probably won't see any deal announced for Jake until after Franson and Reimer are settled and Nonis has a better idea of the CAP situation.
1 month, 1 week ago on The Cody Franson Arbitration: What is he Worth?
@Mattmark Franson can not sign an offer sheet as he elected for arbitration.
@Dewy Keon Hogturd I don't think so. I just think it's a negotiating tactic to try and settle for over 3 or have the arbitrator award in that area.
To me Nonis did low ball at 2 mil and that is a negotiating tactic as well.
Look at Frason's history defensively speaking.
He couldn't earn the trust of Wilson and was quite often a healthy scratch.
He played fairly well on the third pairing with Mark Fraser being sheltered during the shortened season.
He was then given a more prominent role last year playing against tougher competition and did not do so well.
So would you pay him as a top 4 D? IMO No.
Would you pay him as a 3rd pairing D? IMO No.
Because he has the offensive ability especially on the power play IMO he should be paid somewhere in between the 2.
@.JVR. @TOHockeyNut I don't think that there is any date deadline for offer sheets on RFA that are unsigned and where arbitration was not chosen. Didn't Calgary Offer sheet ROR in September?
@mtommy @Optimustic @.JVR. I believe that since Franson filed for arbitration offer sheets are no longer in question.
@Zeus_WilliamMapleLeafs Nonis coming in at 2 is about as rude as Franson coming in at 4.2.
Leafs only team in the East to NOT make a single move.
5 months, 3 weeks ago on NHL Trade Deadline Day: Is there anything doing in Leafland?
@ingy56 @Zeus_WilliamMapleLeafs Unfortunately!
@Jon5200 But at least making the playoffs would be nice.
The top teams in the league find ways to win. This team goes on these streaks finding ways to lose proving that they are not there yet. They beat themselves the other night against the Islanders and they did the same tonight.

@TheCanucksnaphook I'd rather be in Florida too.
6 months, 3 weeks ago on Shark Club Game Day: Maple Leafs at Lightning (7:30 p.m., Leafs TV)
@mr_hanie @TOHockeyNut After the most recent four game losing skid Nonis had a behind closed doors meeting with the players. The compete level has been great the last number of games and look at the results. This team overall did not compete last night at all.
6 months, 3 weeks ago on Game Review: Game #58, Panthers 4 vs. Leafs 1
After watching last nights game it looks like Nonis will have to have another long talk with the players. The performance, or lack there of, last night was an embarrassment for what are supposed to be professionals and very high payed ones at that. There are no excuses. The players, or most of them anyway, just basically took the night off and did not compete.
If this team misses the playoffs we can only look back at this and other games like it that cost them the berth.
@PepTalk @gjdevlin Bad luck charm?
6 months, 3 weeks ago on Game Day: Maple Leafs at Florida Panthers (7:30 p.m., SNet)
This team seems to get some success and then a couple days off and just comes up empty.
36 holes on the gold coarse can do this to you. Just ask a few of the members here.
Leafs taking their annual Florida vacation I see.
@Black_Hawk Ranger has a NTC.
6 months, 4 weeks ago on Mark Fraser traded for Cam Abney, Teemu Hartikainen
Good luck to you Mark Fraser. All the best in Edmonton. Say hello to Scrivens for us!
Good opportunity for Srivens. Eakins knows him and must have had a say in his going to Edmonton.
7 months, 2 weeks ago on Game Day Notes: Game #49, Sabres @ Leafs
Should have been i win in regulation.
7 months, 2 weeks ago on GDT: Devils at Maple Leafs (7 p.m., Leafs TV)
5 Regulation/OT wins now in 32 games. Are we the worst team in the league? Our record over that span would indicate that we are. Bottom line is RC can not seem to get this team in the win column and that is all that counts. Good effort accolades are for teams in full rebuild mode like Buffalo.

It is official. changes are required and fast!

@wiski @-Keon- @Yaknowwhat I think we have had easier competition this year compared to last year over the first 9 games.

Flyers lose three straight. Time to fire the coach again.

We lost the Corsi battle again. When will it ever end!
@CanuckUKinToronto That is a crazy tough stretch between Dec 7th and Dec 17th. We play 7 games in 11 days.
7 - at Ottawa8 - vs Boston11 -vs LA12 - at St Louis14 - vs Chicago16 - at Pittsburgh17 - vs Florida
A lot of tough opponents in there too, so we better rack up the points before this stretch.

It's really nice that we now have a team that finds ways to win rather than the teams we had for so long that found ways to loose.

@theacs1966 @Burtonboy Fraser has not been put on LTIR as far as I know.
10 months, 3 weeks ago on Morning Mashup: A Contender’s Core?
@ingy56 @rustynail @theacs1966 Liles does not cost much more that anyone else to call up. We are only saving 925K having him in the minors.
@Jantz Lupul must have been on the ice for Kessel's goal in the first. Bolland's second goal was PP.

10 months, 4 weeks ago on Preview and GDT: Maple Leafs at Canadiens (7 p.m., CBC)
Bodie played a great game tonight in his limited roll.
I was a little bored so I looked at the actual salary payroll (Not CAP Payroll) of the Leafs opening day roster as it looks now. With Liles demoted the Leafs will actually have one of the lowest "Actual salary payrolls for their active roster" in the league and that includes Clarkson who will be out the first 10 games. For the 22 man roster the total is only 54,835,000 plus potential bonuses. This number is pretty much in the same ball park as Colorado, Phoenix, Buffalo and Florida. Only Ottawa, Calgary and the New York Islanders will be paying significantly less for the actual on ice product in salary payroll.
This was quite shocking to see.

@thelongroad No if you claim a player you fully assume the remainder of the existing contract.
11 months ago on Leafs waive John Michael Liles, 5 others
@mike_84 @TOHockeyNut @Burtonboy @-Keon- More expensive as the Leafs gave him a one way deal. They could have qualified him for about the same, but on a two way deal.
@mike_84 @Burtonboy @-Keon- Didn't Florida decide not to qualify Brennan which made him UFA?
Looks like Liles played so well for the Marlies last night that he played himself onto the team.
11 months ago on Joe Colborne Traded to Calgary Flames for 4th round pick
@Jay_Berg It was only 2 games he got into in the playoffs. some make it sound as if he played all seven games in the series. It was 2 games.
@theacs1966 @TheCanucksnaphook In basically an AHL game!
@CanuckUKinToronto @TOHockeyNut @Burtonboy Ashton is exempt from waivers.
@Burtonboy @CanuckUKinToronto @TOHockeyNut A Player can not be put on LTIR until Tuesday and teams have to be cap compliant on Monday. Maybe Ashton doesn't make the team either as a way to pick up additional depth or as I said a trade does happen first. There are still options available to Nonis.
Nonis may not be done yet. He will be watching the waiver wire closely to maybe pick up some depth at center. Other teams are in the same boat as the Leafs being so close to the CAP. Trades could still happen as well. This could be an interesting next 24 hours.
@CanuckUKinToronto There might be no more cuts until the last minute to keep other teams guessing on who might be available on waivers.
11 months ago on Maple Leaf Hangout Episode #3: Franson, Kessel, team ratings
@hoolihan @Jantz @dlb eh He would not have to clear waivers as long as he is RFA or listed on the reserve list.
11 months ago on Chance of a Kessel extension, sooner rather than later?
@Loric76 @TOHockeyNut Nope, just speculating on what options are available and if Liles is no longer in the plans for Nonis then he may need to go this route to kind of force Liles hand.
@Loric76 @TOHockeyNut Just makes sense now with Franson signed and Liles having the Modified NTC. As I said there could be a deal in place, I did not say that there was one.
Well it now looks as if Liles may be demoted as a way to get him to waive his Modified NTC. There could be a deal in place pending Liles approval of the destination.
