@Bring the Cup Home Bring: You say Nonis's plan...... I am starting to believe Shanny is the master-mind here. The newbies have made a significant difference this season. Guess we won't know where the credit should go, but based on history, I am thinking Shanny is the architect, NoNo is the "Action-ator"

@mcloki @KingTon @Xxxxxnew Hell of a team. I would go to the Gardens every time they were in town. Some nights the Leafs would be up there too, but that was fun to watch. Really enjoyed watching Coffee and Anderson too.

@Xxxxxnew XXXX: I signed on, saw your post and did a double-take on "shit show for a decade". I have not been impressed with our drafting over the past decade, some solid picks, and some "whoa, are you kidding me!!!" choices.   Burkie did some good trades, and Shanny has done real well with this year's newbies.  But we need to get our best draft foot forward too, IMO.

@MLHS_Luke Without lights-out tending we will be in trouble. D is not disciplined enough. Need them focused. We need to have neutral zone effectiveness. We need a lot, but these are the Leafs. Hope Leo is back.  I am calling WIN.

Leafs... "Better to be lucky than good"... I happily remember the good old days when we had the Wings number come play off time.  I just hope the Leafs can transition to Good consistently and not need the luck. Is that like finding the Holy Grail?  Guess I will have to use my Santa wish again this year on Leaf success.  :)

@Anthony Petrielli @Waiting4LSC @Burtonboy Then I commend the progress. Is this the O learning how to position to break out, the D coming of age (MR and Jake in particular), a combo of both? Or a new philosophy that the players are finding success with? Really interested in your view.

@Burtonboy @Anthony Petrielli I'd be interested in average dump-ins per game. Thinks the Leafs might lead that one.

@Komas Taberle @Yaknowwhat @Anthony Petrielli KT: sad but true. I often wonder whether Phil would be different if the Leafs had had a sustained playoff run, and he had had line-mates that were strong enough to allow him to focus less on D. Phil is elite IMO, and so for him to thrive, he needs the rewards. Can't say any of our Head Coaches have delivered that and "earned" player respect. Bring on Babs, I beseech.

I also want to give THANKS to the Finish-er.  You wanted to Be-a-Leaf., you proved that while in exile. Now you are proving that on the ice. Leo you are a beaut. You finish every play, may you finish with the Cup.

@ninepaces @Waiting4LSC Nine:  RC has to be a motivator, although these athletes are supposedly self-motivators. If he has lost the room, then motivation is dead. Game options, I would suggest, are pairings and ice-time. When things go bad, like against Buffalo, a Coach may dismiss the result as a one-off and work hard with players to restore confidence. A coach can tinker with the system. But when a second debacle hits, like last night, I question what the underlying cause is. Inconsistency is the achilles heal of this team. If the players can't address this, then the "track record" suggests a new coach must.  I support your post.

@ninepaces @Waiting4LSC Nine: Agreed. But for me RC has the most "direct" impact with the players, style of play, pairings, ice-time, rewarding of commitment etc....

@wendelsfist WF: May I offer you, if they are lazy and spoil t then the Coach is not doing ihis job. These players need a disciplinarian that will reward correctly. No free rides, same treatment for ALL.

The shame is worn by the fans. I truly hope Shanny canny not let this continue. Time for change. Starts at the top. Replace RC.   No matter the results I believe Leo and Santa have lead the team in effort, commitment and positive play.

Been a solid week for the Leafs. Going in to  this week, biggest question for me is not which Tender starts, but who is on the top 2 lines. I really liked the pairings, but believe the real danger is supplied by JVR-Kessel.  Mad suggested JVR was lazy at times last night. Demotion?

Other great point. last 1:15 mins our 5 were all newbies. Gives me real hope that Shanny knows what he is doing. Phil with a 2-way, great 3rd line, better pieces, better results. (Just wish Clarkson would avoid the dumb stuff).

Leafs play better on the road. Most nights only one "o"  line really produces. If the 2nd line doesn't the pressure on the first seems to render it ineffective. Back-checking from the top line is on my Christmas wish list. And finally, RC is looking for answers.  Seems to me RC has lost the locker room.

@Doit4Dougie Doit: RC can't control the play on the ice, but he can control minutes and pairings. We have all played sports and know there are key players. Starts with confidence in your netminder and then it goes to the elites (Phil soon to be JVR and Morgan and hopefully Jake). Then it goes for the tough players, the Leos of this world. When these players click, the team clicks.  In my view RC has'nt optimized the pairings, nor tried to play the lines to there most producrtive The fourth line has to play meaningful minutes, so he has to find the right combo there. I place a lot of the blame on RC. Yes the players have to produce, but if you don't reward the hot hand and motivate the rest, hello there's another loss. (Doit: this post is not directed at you.)

Two bad games, then a solid road game.  After the Pitt loss I really questioned whether RC had lost the room. Too many of the squad having last season flashbacks. New lines take some time to come together, but if a team does not have PRIDE when playing at home, the mental game is weak. Hit the road, and hit the net for 6.  Yes its on the players, but if the home games resemble a shambles. how soon will it be before Shanny takes measures. Home is where the heart is, home is where we should gain the points for playoff possibilities.
