Alec and AP; Strong post. So on point with NoNo's track record on C's and the McC-Grabs-Kuli walks.  On this kind of day, I feel for the departed's families, but the fresh start gives me hope. If Shanny gets it right, the Blue and White become the powerhouse we all expect. History has not been on our side.   This woeful train-wreck has to be righted. The passion and money Leafers funnel into their coffers need to be rewarded. I remain ever hopeful.

@ingy56 @Waiting4LSC Ingy, I thoght Shanny did a solid job with Santo, Winnick, Booth, Rope-a-dope etc. Not thinking about the "Home Run" FAs at this point, but the strong vets that use the Leafs as a way back, while providing the younger players a kind of role model.

The path forward will rely heavily on Shanny's drafting abilities and cajoling of FAs.  For me all will be for nought if he doesn't get the right Coach.

@WereRiellyDoingThis I would agree with you, Phil is having a bad season. I do not put any blame on Bozie. My comment was suppose to convey a Duschene type centre for Phil would make a different situation. I also wanted to convey that having a producing second line would create more favourable match ups for our first line.

I do not take issue with your post, but I want to believe that we would be in a different world if we had a Babcock style coach and a Nashville/Blues/Wings type GM.

My post was not to suggest "pity". I wanted to put my view forward as an explanation of the debacle. Its not down to one, two or five players. This is about major dysfunction, and the rot starts at the top, IMO.

For three seasons we have had a poor second line, a third line MIA, and a fourth line of one/two pugalists that get 5 minutes. Not the recipe for success. We have lacked a decisive group of players, and strong Coaching. That's my take. I maybe just one, or in a bigger group, but I beLeaf in Phil. But may I offer, the problem is multi-layered.

@Burtonboy @Waiting4LSC Do you think NoNo has the ideas? I subscribe to his view of not trading youth away unless it makes "excellent" sense. The recent drafts have not yielded what I would call strong results. The trades have been around the edges. My rating of NoNo for what he has accomplished would be a C, so not sure about his ability to really contribute .

@Burtonboy Bboy. Thanks for posting. My view has always been, NoNo is an Implementer. A good Field General. He is not an architect. Burkie was, and it would appear Shanny is. They needed a strong COO to run the daily stuff, and deal with initial negotiations and paperwork. I would not be surprised to see NoNo continue in this vain, as Shanny is the man responsible for our re-emergence, and accordingly will want to be keenly involved.

Now for my rant. Mr. Kessel, the uber-competitive player is fat, lazy, disruptive, needs to be traded.  My view: Mr. Kessel gave and gave and gave. Management gave nothing back, other than good contracts. Mr. Kessel excels at his position (RW), but lacks the Center on his line and a powerful second line that lessens the double-teaming and focus on him. (Mr. Kessel and Mr. JVR played for the US Olympic team, and seemed inseparable. So all is not lost).  Mr. Kessel has been in three major train wrecks. At some point, IMO, a player will get exasperated and his performance will inevitably suffer. His behaviour and attitude will eventually surface, as we know with RC.  Mr. Kessel is not perfect. He has never come out and asked to be traded. He seems to want to be a Leaf.  You can keep hitting your head against a brick wall. You can stop. I believe Mr. Kessel stopped, and we are now watching the result. An under performing and disinterested player.  Funny that I see something of the same in Mr. JVR a player I deeply respect too, and one who has shown he wants to be a Leaf. too.

Whatever your views regarding these players, I see our current position as a perfect storm of ownership, management, coaching and players attitude coming together. I am saddened by this, no truthfully disgusted. I have had the privilege of being coached by major ex-EPL players. They recounted games, events, personalities often in training sessions. It was obvious they had egos, a sense of infallibility, but all had a huge drive for accomplishment. I do not believe Mr. Kessel is any different. I would suggest he is exasperated at the way the last few years have gone. I truly believe he, JVR and a number of others will rise from the ashes given the team is furnished with systems they believe in and a strong disciplined, motivational environment.

I truly want Mr. Kessel to retire as a Leaf, given the resources will be brought in for him and others to regain their game and realize their potential.  Our core has not produced, but nor has our GM or Coaching. The Peg, Toilet Seats, Flames and Knuckleheads put us to shame right now. But we have talent. The results are not just won on the ice.

Mr. Rielly, I have great confidence in you. Please learn from this. Mr. Shannahan, maybe this is Mission Impossible, but you have a Nation watching and the expectation is huge. Mr. Kessel, I wear your name with Pride, I always will. I wish you would display more of the leadership qualities we believe a player should have, but I ask that you change nothing that gives you the elite edge you wow us with.

I am a Leafer, have been for decades. My heart is in Toronto, great great city. I am saddened at the negativity and hatred that follows us now, deserved or otherwise.  I remain the biggest Phil fan through all of this. I want better times. But I also believe in credit where credit is due.

Saddened by last nights win. I dont believe in tanking, but we are so close to getting a strong pick. I would have thought Mgmt & Coaches would be mindful of this when selecting, and allotting ice time.

We need a Center. have done for years. No GM has found a way to deliver. Now we have our best chance, and they will screw it up. Situation normal for a leafer.

Wednesday, Thursady, Friday.!!!!!  I have lived in London, Toronto, Atlanta, North Philadelphia, Chapel Hill North Carolina, and Houston Texas. I have been a MUFC fan since childhood. Nowhere I have lived have I ever experienced the anti-sports team MSM-bullcrap as spewed out on Leaf players.  Everywhere I have lived have major sports franchises, where the radio,TV and press coverage is primarily "Homerville". This kind of perennial attack mode would not be tolerated.  Owners, GMs or Coaches are out in front. Dumb players do some damage, but that is usually set aside by fans and press alike, as coming from an idiot.  Not in Leaf land..  Without the Fans and the Players, there would be NO team in Toronto.  So I watch the daily parade of garbage and just think, winning ways and passionate ownership could right this ship real fast. So sad. Me, you can tell where my loyalties reside.

Interesting line up. Phil is second line. Second line are the worst at defending, getting fewer minutes, so this would be a bad move for Tankers. Phil's line is best at scoring on fast breaks, so fewer minutes would be a good thing. Guess it comes down to whatever Hora-show does will get an adverse result.  (Naz, bad news son, gonna have to watch the sh-t show, just like us).  But hey, this is my beloved Blue and White, so whatever you guys do on the ice, just get the biggest head-shakes form Shanny and No-No.
