@mlse @APetrielli Why is it so hard for you and SkinnyFish to learn when to fuck off?  The MLHS writing staff has been slowly incorporating the statistical measures of hockey analytics for the last two seasons.  I, myself, was trying to bridge that gap with a couple of others.  The problem was how to try and advance the topic without alienating the readers.  You, on the other hand, have your head so far up your fucking ass, you are still continuing to alienate readers from MLHS from ever taking a gander on your site simply because your personality is that of a prepubescent teenager who cries whenever he doesn't get his own fucking way.

Learn when to let things die and focus on your own site rather than telling others how to ruin theirs.

@Mind Bomb @mORRganRielly @Greg Fenton @wendelsway1 I missed the second and third because I stopped watching after the first.  So because they started playing better in the second and then third, I couldn't tune back in.

I'm superstitious.

@Greg Fenton @mORRganRielly @wendelsway1 No. Phaneuf's Corsi For % has been LOWER when paired with Gunnarson and the goals against are HIGHER with Gunnarsson.  The fact is, the Leafs are next to impossible to score on when Phaneuf is on the ice.

You're insane if you think Phaneuf hasn't been impressive.  This is absurd.  The evidence has been laid out and you're still spouting off with anecdotes while using shots against as the only evidence against Phaneuf that is a team-wide issue.

@Greg Fenton @mORRganRielly @wendelsway1 Not really. In close situations, Phaneuf has been on the ice for .232 goals per 20 minutes of play -- 1 goal every 4.5 periods.  In addition to that, the goals against aren't much different between Bernier and Reimer -- in fact, Phaneuf hasn't been on the ice for a goal against with Reimer on the ice in the same situations.

I don't think you understand just how bad Gunnarsson has been this year.  Phaneuf has shutdown Toews, Kane, Staal, Semin, Getzlaf, and Perry to the tune of one goal against in the last three games -- the only goal against was a horrid clearing attempt by Gunnarsson that Raymond couldn't chip out -- Staal scored on that turnover.

@Greg Fenton @mORRganRielly @wendelsway1 Except the fact that he eats ice-time means that he's going to be on the ice for the most shots against.  Do you realize that without Phaneuf, the Leafs would have a top-pairing of Gardiner or Franson with Gunnarsson?  Chew on that.  Let me know when you're done your therapy session to deal with that nightmare.

11 months ago on Wednesday Mashup: Keeping up with the Komarovs

@Greg Fenton @mORRganRielly @wendelsway1 Phaneuf has been on the ice for 24.3 minutes per game, which would place him 19th overall among defensemen.  In addition to absorbing the ugly minutes so that Gardiner, Franson, and Rielly don't have to, he's been on the ice for FOUR even strength goals against, which (according to my quick glance) would place him at the top of the defensemen with more ice-time for goals against.

Four goals. 24:30 minutes per game. That's an absurdly low 1.5 goals / 60 minutes at even strength.

In addition to that, he's doing the heavy lifting and throwing down the hammer with a partner who hasn't been playing well at all.

@wendelsway1 Without Phaneuf, I don't think the Leafs even get a .500 record in their first ten games.  He's been unbelievable.

@NotInsane Yea, it was an interesting presser there. I think he mentioned that the team was trying to establish a forecheck, but struggled with the short passing game -- no better example than on the power-play.

That was in regards to the first period by the way.

Oi.  I don't know who to start tonight.  Bernier or Hillier.  Do I play Fowler and Getzlaf?  Or do I play the Leafs players I have on my roster?  I have a very weak hold on first place in my 16 team keeper league -- I'm constrained by the salary cap at the moment, so my options are limited.

What do you think, guys?  Be honest.

Just want to point out that the team badly needs stability more than anything.  Several years of roster turnover, this past off-season isn't really that different from others, and when you're the youngest team in the league, it can be a difficult adjustment.

I guess the fact that Harding's numbers are unsustainable and Reimer's numbers can only go up should make this a game in which the outcome should favour the Leafs.  At least I hope so.  The team can't do much worse than they played on Saturday night.

- What a play by Gardiner to feed Lupul a pass for the game tying goal. He could have easily just thrown the puck on net and hoped for a good bounce, but he saw the passing lane and Lupul, and fed it through softly.

- By the way, coaches don’t put players on the ice in the final minute of a one goal game if they are pushing them out.

I think this needs to be repeated over and over again.  Of course, the whole thing is worrying, but I never thought of Gardiner being on the trade block -- ever.  He's here to stay IMO.

@Loric76 The problem is, I don't think we have a true zone entry game breaking defenseman to back up Gardiner if he goes down.  If he goes down, the complexion of the defense is defensive, not offensive.  That's a very tough pill to swallow, especially after how the defense played against Boston when Gardiner had the leash taken off.
