@Black_Hawk

Just fucking thrilled.  All it takes is the first 2 months of next year for Carlyle to cause a wasted season.  Who fucking cares if he got 1 year, 2 years or 10 years.  It won't help next year.

RW was the devil incarnate.  RC is not unlikable, but that doesn't mean the player have faith in him or his systems so I'm not sure what came out in those interviews.

My mind is so out of hockey right now, but the one guy I'd like to see come here is Iginla if Boston can't sign him. My fear is that after making the playoffs in 2012/13 the Leafs seemed to be a decent destination for UFAs.  With last year's collapse and Toaster Man getting an extension, who's going to want to come here this summer?

I'm with BB on this one. We may be middle of the pack but we should be trending upward to contender status with our core surrounded by a more robust bottom 6 playing the same type of minutes the top teams play.  That is one fundamental change RC has to make and he may be forced to see the light. I won't hold my breath.

The other however is systems.  Many on here complain that the forwards are always too far up the ice.  In other words there is too big a gap between our dmen breaking out and our forwards.  Few seem to realize that this is exactly the way RC has instructed the forwards to play.  Get to the other teams blue line and wait to tip pucks into the other end.  And of course there's also the collapse or swarm.

Again, I won't hold my breath that changing personnel will make those systems work. I think it's fair to say Anaheim had/has personnel better than ours and look at how well they played after Pronger and Niedermeyer disappeared.

Bon, buying time for what?  Give Carlyle 20 more games with this team and another season will be lost and our core will be another year older.

But on the bright side, there will be one less year on Clarkson's contract.  Thanks Nonis.

My initial comments when Shanahan was hired:

"Brendan Shanahan eh?Fucking great.  We hire a punch drunk incoherent village idiot as President. I had my doubts about Leiweke but I can really see the Leafs moving in the right direction - right to the top of the heap for McDavid."

Were those comments ever off.

I gave Shanny way too much credit.

The Bruins may have that but I wouldn't say that's true of Chicago.  Now, who has had more success in the last 5 years?  The one dimensional Bruins or the multi-dimensional Hawks?

And that's where we disagree. It's not one or the other.  You can have a combination of small rush players and bigger possession players.  We have the latter in spades with the Marlies.

Someone forgot to tell Randy.

Name one forward that can carry a team.  Crosby?  Yeah, no talent around him.  Tavares? Lots of playoff action there.  Stamkos? Great trigger man but he needs someone to set him up.

Well said and I believe accurate.  We are in a position to make roster changes that count - like building an effective bottom 6 that actually complements a decent top 6 (which pains me to say probably doesn't include Clarkson) and integrating Marlie D prospects as needed.

100% agree. With questionable systems and personnel decisions we were as high as 3rd in the Conference at one point and ahead of the scabs.  So let's just blow it up? NOT.

Nicely summarized Alec.  I understand the back and forth on the extent of personnel changes, but the decision on Carlyle should be a simple one.  Firing Carlyle and making significant changes in personnel are not mutually exclusive but the first is a requirement.

And thanks for reminding of us how the season started when Nonis traded Colborne (I'm assuming at the behest of Carlyle) ostensibly because he was too soft and apparently because we had SO much depth at center. Good thing we dumped him or people would be criticizing our team as soft. And yes he scored 28 points playing largely bottom 6 minutes but pffft, that would only have put him 7th amongst Leafs forwards. Who needed thosed 28 points from the bottom 6?
