Let me know when Randy's fired
Excellent sarcasm bud. Raymond sucked with him last year, Lupul sucked with and oh yeah Kessel sucked with him in the 1 or 2 games they played together this year.
I guess that disaster of a season for Clarkson was all Kadri's fault last year.

So Craig says Spezza's contract doesn't look bad. Spezza for 4 more years (to age 36) at $7.5M per year. Dion is getting 6 more years (to age 36) at $7.0 per year.
With all due respect to Spezza (not really) I'll take Phaneuf's contract any day. He may be slowing down but he's healthier than Spezza and dmen seem to be better for longer, Marty St. Louis notwithstanding.

Last year he was the most productive player for points per power play minutes.

You mean like Bozak? Let Kadri play a 100 games with Kessel and see what his numbers look like.

I don't think you can eat cap for some years. I think it's all or none. The only way I'd do it is for Barkov and FLA ain't doing that.
1 day, 4 hours ago on Monday Mashup: Who gets the call?
Smith doesn't need to be waived, Panik does plus Smith is really a career AHLer that can chip in as needed. That may end up being true of Panik but Panik also has size and a meaner streak on his side.
1 day, 9 hours ago on Monday Mashup: Who gets the call?
Imagine if there was no cap. That would mean way more players would become UFA's and the richest 5 or 6 teams in the league would have the advantage.
It was a completely different world with no cap. No 2nd round pick, no problem - just go out and sign a UFA. The Leafs got hit as hard as any team in the league with the cap because you had no choice but to draft well and develop and we've been 10 years trying to catch up.
I really don't get the secret. Is Randy just starting to preach two play with hard back checking this late in his tenure? Isn't this what all players learn as novices?
1 day, 10 hours ago on Monday Mashup: Who gets the call?
exactly - he was quite intriguing because of the video we got to see of him with pretty high end offense; but it was always high end offense in question mark league. Hopeful he could be really good, yes. Expecting it, no way.
then just move to the latest mashup thread - there will always be a place to post general comments.
You could have 2 windows open at one time and be in both threads.

It takes awhile for new visitors to dip their toe in the water but I think that generally speaking readers will be more encouraged to post going forward.
I could post my daily menu play if that would help get the post count up.
I liked Paul Maurice. It didn't take me long to despise Wilson. Even though I want Randy gone, I don't hate him - I just think his time as an NHL coach has passed.
Here's to getting another Pat Quinn type coach!!
1 day, 16 hours ago on Monday Mashup: Who gets the call?
lol - I don't disagree but Kessell would look good on just about any line.
McLaren - Orr - Kessel
I loved when Pat Quinn took over (except for letting Sullivan go). I loved hearing him talk after the games.
@FrankFerrant @Potcy @MaxwellHowe
But wasn't that @MaxwellHowe s point? Komarov would make Phil more valuable because the line as a group would be less likely to be a negative.
So we go from a scrawny 6' centre at 185lbs to a scrawnier 5'10" centre at 180 lbs? Nylander will be a 1C way before Marner will ever be.
@MaxwellHowe @Mind Bomb
Aren't the majority of their players under 25 and don't qualify for NTC's?
I like it - let Lupul and Booth work their way back in slowly. At least RC would give that 4th line 10 minutes a night.
Kadri and Clarkson just don't match well, so no to putting DC there. My first pick would be Holland but that is not likely to happen, so I'd go with Santo.

He's just way too fidgety for me. I get the younger hip look but he can't sit still. It's distracting. But since he's a scabs fan I'm assuming he's safe.

Stombolis really looks professional with those bright red socks. Fashion plate material.
and it's not coincidental that this change coincides with Horachek's arrival.

I've been wanting Holland with Kadri for awhile but I get those that would rather him stay at centre. I just think Holland is the closest to giving us 6 top 6 players.
I do think they'll probably start with trying to reunite Lupul with Kadri and if that happens then I'd like to see Santo play with them. If Komo Holland and Clarkson are playing really well they become our 2nd line.
lol - that's what I was going to post for the 4th. They would be good enough to take minutes from other lines if they're outplaying them. It might seem like a slap in the fact to Winnik with how well he's played but that is one good 4th line and he would still be a beast on the 4th. Plus if anyone in the "top 9" isn't playing well we've got guys to make an in game change.
I saw some comments on Scrivens and Fasth being second rate goalies. Let's put some stock into who's playing in front of them. Reimer's GAA is or was worse than both of the 2 Edmonton goalies and I don't view Reimer as second rate. The Leafs really hung him out to dry after Bernier was pulled in the Nashville game.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for the comment on Holland and preseason. No quality NHL player should lose a job just because of preseason. I can see a case for a marginal being lights out in preseason and giving him a chance. E.g. - Kozun.
There were a lot of posters down on Booth for his preseason. He is a legitimate NHLer and now we'll see how he fits in playing with real NHL linemates.
only other option is putting Dion back on the right and bring up Percy

yes, but has Randy been listening?
This sounds familiar

Red Wings not used to getting called for all the hooking holding and interference - not fair.
another strong effort by our 1st line in the d zone
I don't think he's bad defensively at all. His issue will be that at his size he needs to be that much better than a bigger player, especially since the Leafs lack bigger forwards to begin with and especially so in their top 6. That's where Leivo has a distinct advantage.

Holy shite!!! Just trying to catch up on some light reading, but over 2000 comments. Didn't take too long because all I had to do was skip the salutegate comments; except for WW's.
On players wanting to play in Toronto, this shite doesn't help but as seen from Franson's comments below some Leafs do want to don the Blue and White. Bolland did and the problem was about a month before free agency the tampering FLA Panthers made it known they would give him $5.25M. They ended up going $5.5M because rumours were TO was going to $4.75 or even $4.9M. Thank bejebus that didn't happen. After tax though, the $5.5M from FLA was about $3.8M. After tax $4.75 from TO would be about $2.8M, so you can't blame Bolland for taking another $5m over the course of the contract. That's a lot of after tax money in a short career.
Not me - I was the one saying at the beginning of last year that Nonis missed his chance to since him to 4 or 5 years x $4M. Yes, he had a not great year last year but it now seems he wasn't 100%.
Having said that, it would have been difficult for Nonis to sign him because he buried the Leafs with cap problems.
It really looks like it's coming down to do we offer Franson Gardiner type money and look to trade Gardiner or trade Franson by the deadline. 2 years ago I was big time in the Franson camp. Last year was a step back but he's leading the race for me. Plus he's RH which is huge. Robidas has not been as good as expected and we don't have too many RH dmen on the Marlies.

@Potcy @Knights2Leafs @DeclanK
lol - we'll see. Maybe when he plays with someone with speed and the talent to take a pass he won't hang onto it so long.
@Potcy @Knights2Leafs @DeclanK
I thought Kadri with Lupul and Kessel looked pretty good but regardless let's trying mixing it up. Give Holland a shot. The more ice time he's seeing the better he's looking.
I'm very happy for the win and I'm glad that RC actually tried switching Holland and Kadri, but this team ain't going anywhere if we keep throwing JVR - Bozak and Kessel over the boards. I keep hoping that when Lupul comes back maybe RC will put Kessel back with Lupul and Kadri. It's not like I haven't had my hopes dashed before.
lol - I take it you love the JVR - Bozak - Kessel line.
30 years ago the papers did nothing but pump these guys up. They were great cheerleaders and went likely too far in the other direction. It's a completely different world.
