Kadri is a center damn it. a 1C!!!!
Exactly. Other than teaching Phil to skate across the ice to be further out of position from the right side boards than under the RC collapse.
14 hours ago on Thursday Mashup: Feschuk drops bomb, camp opens with physicals and media day
The Leafs don't actually hit the ice till tomorrow, but they play their first exhibition game on Monday night. So that's Friday, Saturday and Sunday (assuming that's a work day) for Randy to implement his new systems. Does anyone think that's doable? But I guess it's money, money, money for MLSE. I think they understand that exhibition games are guaranteed money and playoff games are few and far between.

Would that be the Zdeno Chara that was 25 before he had his first real good NHL season criticizing the under 22 Kessel and Seguin?
15 hours, 28 minutes ago on Thursday Mashup: Feschuk drops bomb, camp opens with physicals and media day
Sorry if I'm sounding flippant. I will never stop following the Leafs but I'm trying to stay more emotionally detached this year. I could handle the losing of 12 of the last 14, but when Carlyle was kept on I was truly shocked so I'm ready for anything to happen this year.
16 hours, 16 minutes ago on Thursday Mashup: Feschuk drops bomb, camp opens with physicals and media day
Give Feschuk's credentials to MLHS?
16 hours, 22 minutes ago on Thursday Mashup: Feschuk drops bomb, camp opens with physicals and media day
I understand that and it might actually have been said but in a hyperbolic, tongue in cheek kind of way. It's all hearsay and we have little context, not to mention those Feschuk talked to could have been embellishing what they heard. In a perfect world Shanahan shouldn't even have to dignify the alleged comments with a response, but I think you're right that he may have to hit this one hard and fast.

As WW says Feschuk is a
complete GOOF. I think we should look at
this article as a positive. Our next
head coach is actually talking to the Leafs best player in the off season about
systems, structure and strategy. What a

@The Toronto Maple Leaf
I love Brown and saw him play on Sunday and Tuesday, but I'd be shocked if he's 6'. Not that it really matters because if we're really lucky we've latched onto a player that will be better than Versteeg (5'10" 182) and could be closer to Giroux (5'11" 172). He will be fine at whatever size he is.
16 hours, 52 minutes ago on Thursday Mashup: Feschuk drops bomb, camp opens with physicals and media day
So they could only win 1 cup when they had a team that would have been better with Kessel and could have won 3 cups?
16 hours, 57 minutes ago on Thursday Mashup: Feschuk drops bomb, camp opens with physicals and media day
I agree - he looks like the real deal. He seems to have NHL speed but what really strikes me is his ability to control the puck along the boards. He's very good at winning the one on one battles. It's not like we have a lot of 6'2" forwards with speed, skill and strong on board play.
1 day, 13 hours ago on Rookie Tournament Game #3: Maple Leafs vs. Penguins
I only got to watch Gauthier for the one period he played on Sunday but as I posted then while he may not be Kessel like in his speed he has no problem keeping up. Part of my problem in watching Knoedel is I keep comparing all the dmen to Loov whose skating is a thing of beauty.
1 day, 15 hours ago on Rookie Tournament Game #3: Maple Leafs vs. Penguins
My only concern watching him live is he may not be able to keep up speedwise in the NHL but he's certainly worth developing. He will be good with the Marlies and who knows how he'll turn out.
If you mean by that Carlyle forcing out Colborne for Ashton and then not using Ashton properly, getting Holland and misusing him, not playing Liles so he had to be traded for Gleason who was then bought out causing us cap headaches, using McLaren and Orr to take up valuable roster spots so we couldn't roll 4 lines, and using McClement (and his 10 points) as a second line center, then yes he didn't have NHL quality. But that's not on Randy. Right.
plus Gauthier only played 1 period.
2 days, 2 hours ago on Rookie Tournament Game #3: Maple Leafs vs. Penguins
Leivo didn't play in game 2.
Pretty sure I'm not too worried about winning or losing - it's more about getting to see the individual talents. It would be good for Ottawa to have a false sense of success having beaten the likes of defensive stalwarts like Fraser, Doetzel and Donaghey.

@Burtonboy Reading that article last night made me almost want to puke. I read your post and needed to get offline as soon as possible. There is so much to be positive about - management changes, coaching changes and we have way better and deeper personnel which gives me hope but the one glaring disaster staring us in the face is RC. I do not want a another wasted year with much of our core starting to get older. If he's not going to shape up, then I want a quick end; not another slow death and eventually off the cliff year.

3 days, 3 hours ago on 10 Questions: Part 1 — Will Randy Carlyle Change?
The good news is RWillie will still be available around Christmas.
He can get out his ropes and teach those boys how to PK.
Nice job Nikhil, those charts are simply amazing.
It is the Pens rookies and the game is at 2:00 p.m. so not sure when it might be replayed on Leafs TV.
3 days, 7 hours ago on Monday Mashup: Loov returning to Sweden? Leafs invite Cal Heeter to camp?
Part of what you're saying is true but for me the other part is I don't know whether to hope we shit the bed quickly to rid ourselves of Carlyle or hope he reforms his coaching and we actually become a good team. I so doubt the latter is going to happen.
3 days, 7 hours ago on Rookie Tournament Game #2 Recap: Senators 6 vs. Maple Leafs 2
And when I say too many pieces that includes Clarkson who might find himself on the 4th line. That contract will bite us forever in terms of cap room and trying to put him somewhere in the top 9 to justify the signing. I really hope he proves me wrong but at best he's a 3rd liner. Leivo looks like he fits in the top 6.
3 days, 10 hours ago on Rookie Tournament Game #2 Recap: Senators 6 vs. Maple Leafs 2
I agree there are too many pieces but I wonder if Shanahan/Nonis had known earlier in the process that they were getting Booth and Winnik as UFAs for cheap that they might not have signed all of Kontiola, Santorelli, Komarov and traded for Frattin. We still have no room for Ashton and Bodie.
I don't know. Gibson seemed to be more under assault and he made 2 or 3 spectacular saves last night. Bibeau can also be amazing. It'll take a year or two to sort this out so I'll just enjoy the competition.
Look at how big the arguments were on this site over Reimer and Scrivens and it's still yet to be determined who the better goalie is.
Montreal is ranked 10th and 10 places ahead of us and yet their 5th best prospect is supposedly Mike McCarron. Go check out his stats in comparison to Biggs. I'll take Biggs any day.
Hockey Futures rankings mean very little.
3 days, 15 hours ago on Rookie Tournament Game #2 Recap: Senators 6 vs. Maple Leafs 2
Both excellent skaters and both very physical. Not that Nilsson is small because he's at least the same size as Matt Finn but Loov is noticeably bigger.
Remember that picture from draft day. He was taller than Carlyle.
4 days, 1 hour ago on Rookie Tournament Game #2 – Maple Leafs vs. Senators
Neither is likely to play NHL hockey but they do have some talent. They don't always play that way and when it's a big game they don't usually play so stupid. They won't last long if they do that on a regular basis in the AHL.
I hate to admit it but Lazar did look pretty good in the 3rd period.
@dlb Mad @Burtonboy
I think that was me and I was just joking about buying a ticket to see all the new Leafs and I get to see the Rupert twins for the 100th time. I'd take them on my team any time. Their Hanson act notwithstanding they're relatively skilled and smart players.
It was too bad I didn't see more of Gauthier. What little I did see of him impressed me. He may not skate like Phil Kessel but he is no David Steckel. Very smart and efficient player.
4 days, 2 hours ago on Rookie Tournament Game #2 – Maple Leafs vs. Senators
I just got back from the Bud Gardens and I can't tell you how impressed I was with Loov. He has all the tools. He reminds me of Olli Maatta with his skating, he has incredible awareness of players around him and his passes are right on the tape. Although hie doesn't appear to be an offensive player he can move the puck. He has decent size; definitely bigger than Nilsson and I have no complaints about Nilsson's game. Oh, and he can hit.
He reminds me of Gunnarsson but with some nastiness. This guy is a lock on our blue line and sooner rather than later.
The Lovely Loov
What happened to Freddy G? Did they say he got injured?
4 days, 3 hours ago on Rookie Tournament Game #2 – Maple Leafs vs. Senators
Last year I thought Granlund got off to a slow start but obviously did very well. Loov is the the opposite - best dmn on the ice by a mile. Nilsson has looked very good. but not as big as Loov
4 days, 4 hours ago on Rookie Tournament Game #2 – Maple Leafs vs. Senators
Lazar is pretty strong on his skates...
until Loov runs into him.
I love Loov for his hitting too :)
I love Loov. Very quick for a big guy.
I can see the golden flow from my seat - there's maybe 1500 here tonight without him playing
Got back from Huntsville early and just arrived in the nick of time - just what i need, to see the Ruperts play : )
I'm hoping that Shanahan and Nonis have neutered RC and it won't be his decisions entirely on roster selection. Holland and Ashton have earned their stripes and if the organization wants to retain any credibility with the players they have to be given priority.
5 days, 15 hours ago on Maple Leafs invite Henrik Tallinder and Brendan Mikkelson to training camp
I get that and on a team like Boston that is a perennial playoff team it's easier to slide a rookie in from the start of the season. With the Leafs it's almost do or die from the start of the season with no room for error unless it's a sure thing like Rielly. I'm not disagreeing with what your saying. I'm just saying that the Leafs and RC in particular is likely to go with the less risky option.
6 days, 16 hours ago on Maple Leafs invite Henrik Tallinder and Brendan Mikkelson to training camp
Tourney is in London where I live but I have to be on a work "retreat" north of Huntsville. Hope to be back in time on Sunday to go down to the Bud Gardens to watch live. I've already booked off Tuesday afternoon for the last game.
I agree that Franson needs to be given a chance to see if can be a player in a defensive scheme that actually has some structure. I love what Garndiner and Rielly are going to bring and while Franson may not be essential he does bring some size and has shown more signs of physicality the last 2 years. We need a balance of speed and size on the back end. That's why I like Holzer as a 7th Dman in the short term.
6) is a lock. Rielly was brought along slow enough that he has nowhere to go but up.
1 week, 1 day ago on Spencer Abbott signs one-year deal
Hopefully other GMs can apply the Carlyle factor in giving a boost to any evaluation of Franson
100% agree. It wasn't the total man hours lost so much as who we lost. We are weakest down the middle and to lose 2 of the top 3 is way worse than losing a couple of wingers and dmen. And losing Bernier was the final nail in the coffin.
Rielly looked jacked - it would be nice if he came in around 210. As long as he doesn't go the on the Luke Schenn weight program he'll be okay.
In the picture I saw yesterday he sure did.
