.@stinkyhockeykid @belfryhockey can you pls talk to the use of analytics in training at lower levels -squirt etc thx. OHL/NCAA included

'll apologize in advance for the CAPS text, but I am not a good enough writer to have my wording create the emphasis I think is necessary. I'm not yelling at you, I am trying to draw attention to important wording.

This is a where we have to be very careful. I don't believe any coach outside the NHL should use any of the performance analytic models you see that assess the NHL players as a verbatim tool. The NHL is a PERFORMANCE game, it is not a DEVELOPMENT game. I would go so far as to suggest that all teams under the NHL, but more specifically coaches in the CHL, NCAA and all levels below including Squirt should NOT use PERFORMANCE analytics ... rather they should use DEVELOPMENT analytics.

Development Analytics is my wheelhouse. As usual, I won't say I'm ahead of the movement, but I'm definitely in a different lane. Development Analytics is centered on training to game transfer, which I've said numerous times is the way I would grade all coaching. I should be able to come to your practice on Monday, then your practice on Wednesday, quickly ascertain exactly what you are trying to teach and then come to your game on Saturday and see some evidence that the players executing what they learned Monday and Wednesday. Now imagine if you are an NCAA program that has 4 days of such training - imagine what I should be able to see in those weekend games??

In a nutshell, Development Analytics requires the coach to have a long-term (season) skill/tactics plan for each of his players. Then assign an analytic model to determine his transfer rate. The scary part of this process is the coach will expose himself and his staff to their true impact on each player. If you set it up right, you will see exactly where you have impacted the players game and the degree of that impact. This is the truth behind your effectiveness as a teacher - which unless you are in the NHL - you are a teacher in a coaching position. If you embrace the truth and understand DEVELOPMENT Analytics you can take your teaching skills to an entirely new level and your players as well.

Good luck.

@normb Gibby has been more consistent then Bibeau IMO. What I do find with Bibeau is when he's on he's light's out . He's just a little inconsistent compared to Gibby

We will have to agree to disagree Norm . These guys are faced with a barrage of question every single day and I have no problem with any player who wants to give an honest answer . Who wants to listen to the  same old cliche's and canned responses day in day out . Not me

@Zep2 Sure has and he will likely wind up taking another short bridge contract because of it. He's an RFA so he has limited power to sway any negotiations . You need to be careful with Goalies . Cam Ward was a con smythe winner and a spectacular goalie who because of injury fell off the map. Now Ward is very close to returning to form. Bet the Canes are happy they stuck with him

@normb I don't know where you get the idea Lupul hasn't taken responsibility for whats gone on . He's said numerous times the team just hasn't delivered and he fully expects changes . As for his point about loading the team with draft picks and prospects he's absolutely right. You can't simply trade every single player and load the team up with kids. Those players need time to develop and rushing them into the NHL is just plain stupid . You need look no further then what Edmonton did to realize that.

As for that other stuff I've listened to all his interviews this yr and as far as I'm concerned he 's never once  thrown his team under the bus with any his comments. Not sure what in fuck not knowing who Mandela has to do with playing hockey but whatever .

@Nylanderthal @Burtonboy 3 keys to building a successful team and we've all heard them before . Goaltending,# 1 defenseman and a # 1 center . IMO Bernier is the best goalie in our system and replacing him will be hard right now. I like Bibeau and Gibson but they both need more time in the AHL. Personally I'm keeping Bernier for a few yrs yet
