This move had to be made. Richards was so inconsistent that he falls in line with Gaborik and Nash for players that make you want to pull your hair out. We cannot pay a man over 6 mil a year to be a no show in huge playoff games, unacceptable. Being regulated to the 4th line was the last straw in an up and down career in NY. The buyout option was the best thing for us, now we can focus on using that 6 mil on two efficient players that we can use...probably to resign Brassard and Pouliot to keep the 3rd line intact. Sign Paul Stasny for a little over 5 mil a year and let Stralman and Boyle go and we have a solid team for the future

Brassard does one thing well, he comes through in the clutch and in hockey that is a rare art these days. The 3rd line of Brassard, Pouliot and Zuccarrelo should be kept at all costs. It is a formidable line of chemistry that is also rare these days. If we can keep Brassard for just under 4 Mil then he should be a keeper...I would offer 4 mil a year just because he is 27 and in his prime years. He still has the upside to be better, even better than Stepan.

@betweentheworlds Moore was a tremendous pick up and more clutch. Boyle has had down years and looked completely lost as a ranger. Plus Moore will be cheaper..i dont understand keeping Boyle over Moore

Boyle nearly drove every ranger fan mad with his inconsistency. Players like him you really have no idea what kind of season he will have and we shouldn't pay him nearly 4 mil a year to be a bottom 6 center (4th line). Even though boyle is great on the penalty kill, we can simply use the money for other grinder type guys that will be cheaper

Torts and Sullivan had years to create an offensive system that was efficient and consistent, they failed.

I dont care who is coaching. Richards is way beyond his prime and we need he cap space to lock up some key players in Hagelin, Mcdonaugh, and others

@Not So Nashty Throw money at them and they will sign a different tune. This is why we have to buyout Richards. The contract is just too much money that we can use for other players.

Nash should have admitted his struggles to make an impact in the playoffs. He had a few assists but he was here to score and failed miserably. Nash was slow and ineffective. I am encouraged if we can buyout Richards and resign the young guys. Richards was a huge disappointment but Tort's trust in him hurt us more, especially on power play.

Torts gets blamed for having no offensive schemes and a coaching style based on hustle and the dump and chase to generate a stagnant offense with no fluidity

It is the players...the ones that Torts keeps playing that suck on powerplays (Richards)...and then thinks Hagelin stinks on the powerplay because he is too fast LOL...one of our most efficient players on the offensive end is not on PP because he is too fast? How about benching Richards because he sucks all around and is too slow? Torts sucks
