@Lell87 Thanks for reading! I started to write a similar piece the day Manning was released but it was just too much lol. Greg's terrific piece from earlier this week inspired me to go back and complete those thoughts and add some new ones. I feel like I could have written a book!

@Goéland Glad you enjoyed it! I was happy to share. He was rarely "just" a sports figure for many of us. I'm thrilled to have been a fan. Can't wait for tomorrow.

Am I the only one not entirely convinced he'll keep it up? Not that he'll drop off to the point of mediocre or anything like that, but 1 or 2 non-elite games and he falls off pace. They've got 3 cold-weather home games, and games @NYG and @ KC left. Could have a rough game in there somewhere.

Again, don't get me wrong, I watched some guy keep it up for an entire season in 04 so I know it's possible, but I also know its damn hard.

The Tradeoff

Season on the Brink(though what exactly we're on the brink of remains to be seen)

The Fall of Camelot

The Year Before Jim Caldwell Took the Penn State Job

The Decline and Fall of the Peyton Empire

Strangers in a Strange Land (as in, wtf, we're losers all of a sudden)

Revelation

Apocalypse Now

Brave New World

Of course if Manning comes back next year and beyond there are only two options

Peyton Manning: The Once and Future King and The Return of the King

Although now that I think about it, "The Prestige" works too.

Pierre Garcon - Peter Waiter

Philip Wheeler- Patroclus (because he's got the dreads like Sanders to intimidate the opponents, "much" like Patroclus took Achilles' armor to intimidate the Trojans in the Iliad. Nerd alert, I know. Oh, Patroclus ended up being easily killed because he's not nearly as badass as Achilles was.)

Dan Wheldon was kind enough to give Franklin Central's high school radio station (91.5 WRFT) an interview back in May of 2006. He wasn't the only driver to do so, but he was definitely the kindest, and most generous with his time during the interview considering he was being interviewed by a high school junior. He's been a favorite of mine ever since. Yesterday just broke my heart for his friends and family.

Well of course it depends on the Colts not screwing up the pick. Just like it depends on Manning having a healthy comeback.

In the past 5 drafts a 5 win team (which has got to be the absolute ceiling at this point, right?) hasn't drafted lower than 8th, taken in those first 8 picks has been: Ndamukong Suh (2), Eric Berry (5), Rolando McClain (8), Jake Long (1), Darren McFadden (4), Calvin Johnson (2), Joe Thomas (3), Adrian Peterson (7), and then this past year Von Miller (2), AJ Green (4), Patrick Peterson (5), Julio Jones (6); all of whom I'm reasonably certain will be very good. Just for good measure you've also got Jerod Mayo (10), Patrick Willis (11), Darrelle Revis (14), and Nick Fairley (13) in the early part of the first round.

That's why I'm "excited" about this year and what it could mean for the tail end of Manning's career. An infusion of talent could/should revitalize the team and provide a great chance for a final hurrah.

The average location of our first draft pick in a given year since 2003 has been 36th overall, it's no wonder the roster isn't as talented as it used to be. Before this past draft, we hadn't drafted lower than 27th since the 2003 draft. I know it's not as cut and dry as I'm about to make it but in 2001 we picked 11th and drafted Freeney, 2002 we got Clark at 24, in 2011 we got a starting left tackle despite a shortened offseason not conducive to helping the rookies out at number 22. It's going to be easier to hit when you draft higher (in all rounds), that's the way it's designed.

Sucking is going to suck, but it could be for the best.

The best part about 18to88 isn't the awesome Colts analysis (and awesome it is), it's that I feel like Nate Dunlevy is someone I'd want to be friends with. That captures everything "blogging" (in the broad, wild west of the internet sense of the word) is supposed to be about. That's the highest compliment I can give you. Coming here to consume Colts news and analysis is almost secondary, I come to 18to88 because I genuinely enjoy it. Anyone that does a season preview based on Star Wars characters or Harrison Ford movies, and posts a review of LOST, and crusades against class basketball, and I know is a person of faith; well, they've gotta be an alright person in my book, even if they did go to Pike ;-)

Ah, I assumed that the "new" atdhe was just the old one without football, but I didn't realize they changed names. I had a whole list I would refer to, but once I got back I forgot them all haha. Thanks again man. @Cass @jgos22

@thejoshbaker I normally don't have too much trouble with tweetdeck (I sit in lower bowl area), the key I've found is to not bother tweeting pictures because they'll take forever. If you try to use the actual site though that could be something else entirely.

I'm surprised this didn't garner a single comment. I like the move, Hill was better than anyone they were going to get at 15 and can play (a lot) right away.

I have a friend that I've known since 2nd grade, and who is a reader of the site, who is studying in Sendai this semester. I woke up last Friday morning around 5 o clock and found out about the earthquake from, of all things, Jim Irsay's tweets. I can't describe the way my heart sunk when I heard Sendai was virtually the epicenter. I texted him right away and fortunately he was able to get back to me about 2 gut-wrenching hours later to let me know he was alright.

I've been in contact with him off and on- as you can imagine his access to power was extremely limited. They moved to Tokyo within a day or so, and today moved down to Nagoya. The loss of life and devastation has been tremendous but there are countless others who have remained safe through this- and that's something everyone should be thankful for.

Glad to hear Derek is okay. Thanks for posting, Nate.

Yeah but the one play that cost the Colts the season was that one awful, off target, pass that Manning threw when he was moved outside the pocket.

Duh.

I hope that one day my memory fades enough so I don't remember things like the Keith drop/pick, the Baskett... well, just Hank Baskett entirely I guess, and Nick Harper's wife.
