IF (a big IF) LA did come to the spurs, i can see tim and manu returning for very cheap.
2 months, 1 week ago on Conversation @ http://projectspurs.com/2015-articles/report-spurs-could-be-interested-in-lamarcus-aldridge-this-summer.html
thats not exactly true, MJ was in the league 4 years before PJ took over in 1989, and they didnt make the finals until 1991. they got smashed by the bad boy pistons.
the year before PJ got there the bulls made the east finals again losing to the pistons. they lost to the pistons 3 years in a row, and one cou;ld argue that if not for the bat boys breakup the bulls wouldnt have won in 1991.
in addition, pippen and grant were only had 2 years in when PJ came in, armstrong a rookie, perdue had 1 year in. all major parts of that championship era for the bulls.
in addition, kobe only 96-97,97-98,98-99, then PJ came in in 1999. had it not been for one greg popovich and the SA spurs, the lakers would most likely have won the title in 1999 before PJ got there. they were a .610 team that year at 31-19, and won 61 games in 97-98.
the two things i give PJ real credit for, he could manage egos very well, and 2nd he was a master of opportunity. he knew his bulls were garbage because everyone was traded away or "retired" after the 1998 title, so what do you do? jump ship and head over to the next talent stacked team the lakers. then after getting dismantled by detroit in 2004, what did he do? oh i think ill leave now..... he popped back in just in time to have a couple garbage seasons with mediocre talent in 05-06, 06-07 (because his sugar mama paid him through the nose and where ever else to get him back) then BAM crazy trade brings in a dominant big to go along with kobe and here we go again.
pop on the other hand, HAS had some great talent to coach, BUT hte difference, pop has built that talent, expanded on it and made it the great talent/player/team the spurs have been. PJ has never once built a team (until this year, so far so terrible but we will see). pop took a mediocre tony parker, a wild manu, turned danny greens life around, got diaw in shape and motivated, took splitter from euro-ok to nba -ok, the list goes on and on through out his career.
PJ was handed stacked teams, pop built stacked team, created stacked team. PERIOD.

sounds just about right, barring any other injuries that gives him a couple weeks before allstar break then time to pick it up.
on a side note, how far has blair fallen lol, from talkin huge smack last year to only playing 11 games averaging 5 minutes this year. hmmmmm maybe pop was right???

its defense thats gonna kill the cavs, and its not hard to run a good offense and blow out a so-so euro team like they did.

nice signing. the minimum increase on an extension. spurs doing what spurs do for the better of the team.
now just leonard and the spurs are locked up most likely with solid cap space for the coming future!

sounds to me like marion fits right in the middle of what the spurs do, not better not worse.
thats a good fit, and with mid level or less, hes not taking the spurs into the tax anyway.
i like baynes, he has shown some upside now and then and hes a BIG body, but is he really what eh spurs need? i mean he had 15 fouls and 32 points in 14 playoff games this year. that basically a foul for every made basket, and most of his fouls lead to free throws (they were seldom hack-a-xxxxx fouls) and in 18 playoff games the last 2 years he has yet to block a single show. he also had more than twice as many turnovers as steals and assists combined. but the no blocks that what gets me, 124 minutes total in the playoffs and not a single blocked shot. its time to move along i think.
8 months, 2 weeks ago on Conversation @ http://projectspurs.com/2014-articles/a-quantitative-look-at-marion-in-spurs-system.html
@RoofinReality @SeriouslyDude thats really kinda my point.
hes no world beater/all star BUT he plays hard, he plays efficient, he can make the 3, and better yet he can defend, plus spelling kawhi.
its a win win.
8 months, 2 weeks ago on Conversation @ http://projectspurs.com/2014freeagency/bonner-to-re-sign-with-spurs.html
@SeriouslyDude marion is still a VERY good defender, he can still hit the 3 ball and pass. he shoots 3s about the same as leonard, and better 5 than manu. he would be a perfect fit to come off the bench behind leonard. he also averaged more rebounds than leonard did but played about 1 minute more per game.
as a mater of fact, his numbers look very much like leonards. kawhi averaged 2 points more per game, half a rebound less. almost identical in assists, steals, blocks, turnovers and fouls.
now obviously leonard is on the up, marion is headed down but to say marion is terrible is a ridiculous statement.
a few other free agents out there, al-farouq aminu, elton brand (maybe to old but would be cheap and productive) okafur.
all would likely take the midlevel or less, and all are better than baynes.
spurs need to go after marion with the remaining spot and the midlevel. they NEED a backup for leonard, manu, green, and belineli are NOT small forwards. plus the spurs could go really small with a very defensive with duncan, leonard/marion, green and tony.
as for bonner, im not mad at either the spurs or matt, he earned the loyalty and he can spell minutes if need be. plus there are still a lot of sammiches in SA to be hunted
spurs getting snubbed by a "star" for a larger market team? go figure!!! i mean that never happens right?

9 months ago on Conversation @ http://projectspurs.com/2014-articles/report-patty-mills-spurs-agree-to-3-year-deal.html
i just hope the word REASONABLE rings true. hes going to want more money than he made last year, just a mater of how much more. keep it cheap and give flexibility, and the spurs can bring in another contributor to help too.

9 months ago on Conversation @ http://projectspurs.com/2014-articles/report-spurs-one-of-two-teams-to-sign-pg-bryce-cotton.html
chandler isnt the same guy they had last time. hell he has had a lot of injury issues, including only playing 55 games this past season.
for all his defensive props, hes barely a 1 block half a steal player his whole career.
i mean he turns the ball over as much as he blocks and steals per game combined. and he fouls more than he blocks/steals/assists combined.
spurs are not worried about tyson chandler. its a desperate clutching at straws for the mavs thinking they can relive that title run.
9 months, 1 week ago on Conversation @ http://projectspurs.com/
did you guys actually mention richard jefferson? really?
mills and diaw can NOT get anywhere near those numbers.
mills and diaw should be getting a COMBINED 6-8 mil.
if either asks for that alone then let them walk. the spurs will need to replace bonner, and id like to see a guy like marion or pierce sign for very low dollars .
we showed our biggest weakness was behind our strongest asset in the playoffs. when kawhi got in foul trouble or what not we had no answer for the other teams, either of those guys playing behind/next to leonard would be a perfect fit. they both can hit the long ball, they both play defense, and they are both low salary type guys now. pops method of preserving player minutes would suit them both well as well.
9 months, 1 week ago on Conversation @ http://projectspurs.com/2014-articles/report-duncan-to-opt-into-final-year-of-contract-with-spurs.html
diaw had a great finals, and other players have dooped teams into big contracts on single series breakouts (trevor ariza?) i just dont see him making a ton more than he did this season. 5 mil is about it.
id be more concerned about over paying mills. anything more than about 3-4 mil is just to much.
the cap is projected to be 63.2 mil. spurs will be about 54 mil bringing everyone with an option back. the spurs will have the full midlevel also.
they should be able to use the midlevel for either mills or boris, (in a perfect world both lol). so that would leave them with a little over 8 mil to sign the other AND/OR a free agent.
id like to see paul pierce or shawn marion signed with some of that money.

1 year, 1 month ago on Granger passing on Spurs is blessing in disguise
either he is playing it up, or he is an idiot that doesnt even know what he has done in his career.... either way its better hes gone.
taking last years "im a cry baby" season out and his is actually playing the exact same minutes average of the 1st 3 years of his career. he is averaging .3 more rebounds, .2 assists more, .1 blocks less, .3 more steals, .5 more fouls, and .2 less points per game than he averaged his 1st 3 seasons. in other words in 4.5 years of playing in the nba he has improved exactly ZERO! he has not gotten better, he has not gotten worse, he has not produced. on top of that, his FT shooting has taken a pretty big drop in %, while his FG shooting is only up slightly.
thee were a couple of people here backing him up, they are not any smarter than he is.
and im guessing the 22 point blow out wasnt as fun as he thought it would be huh?

as for the rockets, silly just silly. i mean of their 6 losses, they have lost to the 76ers, utah, dallas, the lakers and the clippers. of those only the clippers are a good team. and only 4 of their wins are vs teams with better than .500 records. the rockets are a long ways from elite, beating the spurs on the second night of back to back including late fights, in a game they blew a 20 point lead, and inched out the win, in a game where only 2 spurs played more than 30 minutes yet the staring 5 for the rockets played an average of 36 minutes with all 5 over 31, yeah thats elite. the spurs could have won that game, they had the chances and shots just didnt fall. the rockets got lucky to get out with that win.

i think what he is trying ot say is the knicks will be ready, they will have the locker room all set up for the spurs, campaign and things ready for the celebration as the spurs smash the knicks. they will have reservations for the nice french restaurant tony likes, and cars waiting.
1 year, 4 months ago on Knicks' World Peace says they'll be ready for Spurs... in Finals?
any idea why the spurs have ALREADY waived howard? he was signed not longer than 30 hours.
1 year, 5 months ago on 10 years later, Spurs finally get Josh Howard
@zerospurs i dont know that it had anything to do with "better" so much as bang for the buck. howards contract is likely smaller than the other guys and if he can give them 10-15 decent minutes then hes a plus, if he cant then hes gone no harm no foul. his upside over those guys is his defense, IF healthy he is leaps and bounds better on defense than either of those guys.
@AndrewJesOvalle this is a ridiculous statement. so because he was a beast in college vs college talent you expect him to translate over to being the same beast in the nba? lets just compare 1 thing, splitter vs blair, in blairs BEST season (his 3rd), he averaged 9.5 and 5.5 in about 22 minutes, in splitters 2nd season (not his best not his worst) he averaged 9.2 and 5.2 in 3 less minutes. but the real factor, splitter knows how to play defense.
im gonna go out on a limb and say pop gave blair plenty of chances to prove himself, i mean he did start all but 3 games in the lockout season, and 65 of 82 the season before that. he also was watched constantly during practice day in and day out, training camp and game time. filmed constantly and looked at over and over by pop and all of his coaches. ill go ahead and say their expert opinion is far more relevant than your disgruntled "they screwed over my boy" fan opinion.
