@wherewasi Agree re Glass. His best game of the season I think. Even though he did not score he actually controlled the puck a few times and made some passes to teammates as opposed to just skating around the boards and falling down.

@Gorangers0525 fair enough. we can have him stand behind hank/talbot for when pucks trickle through!

It was a boring game to watch, but thought the team played well. Nice to see they can win some defensive struggles after the past 10 games or so when they were winning despite poor defense. Hard to see how anyone can defend Glass. He adds zero value. Think back to Dorsett and even Carcillo last year, yes they were there for toughness but they also showed skill, particularly Dorsett. I cannot think of a single good play Glass has made all year.
Also thought Hunwick had another strong game. In addition to ringing one off the post, also has been playing pretty solid D. Hard to see John Moore getting back into lineup with the way Hunwick is playing. Klein has been fantastic. Even better that we got him for Del Zaster.

Agree there was nothing malicious about Prust's bump on Hank, but still good to see Klein go after him. This team could be dangerous if they could play the way they played last night with any consistency. So much offensive depth + hank + a strong defense once McD gets back. Even though he did not score, really like what Boyle brings to the power play. Nice to have a point man that can regularly hit the net with shots.

He also looks like he lost about 30 pounds which I have to imagine helps?

that performance was the definition of lackluster. no jump. agree no need to hit panic button, but reminded me of watching Torts hockey (but without the fighting). these last games show just how much Rangers need McD.

Thank you Kevin. I was a relatively late comer to the blog but really enjoyed reading it, particularly the post game wrap ups. I also really enjoyed the comments which made it easier to connect with Rangers fans even though I am not in NY. Best of luck to you.

Would have liked to see Zucc get an A because of the way he brings it night in and night out, but hard to second guess the decision. Was hoping McD would be captain.

First game I was able to see. Man they were flying. Duclair and Haggerty definitely looked comfortable. Also liked the smile on Glass's face when he was fighting that goon Stortini. Showed some guts. (side note, would be great to get screen grab of him in box drooling into the gap where his teeth should be).
But what is the Penthouse's Corsi rating?

More important than this excellent analysis of free agency and the prospects, how is there not an article or at least a meme about Claude Giroux grabbing the ass of a male police officer in Canada?!

Good for Cally. Glad the Rangers did not sign him for that much, but no reason he should not get paid. Between making the finals with MSL, him having only one year left on his contract (I think), and getting back the 2nd round draft pick, seems like it turned out to be a pretty good trade for Rangers.

Agree with poster who said put Nash on the PP and also take Richards off it. I would, however, keep Richards on 4th line over Carcillo. He does have a good shot if an opportunity comes his way. Happy with the win last night although I spent the entire 3d period with my blood pressure likely through the roof. They (other than Hank) definitely need to play better than that next game if they want to stay alive.

One game and shift at a time. They need to come out tonight and play like a pack of crazed dogs as LT would say.
Not looking good, but if you look back at that Kings/Sharks series the first three games where the Sharks dominated you never would have thought the Kings would have come back, so there is always the chance.
Bottom line is that winning the cup requires combination of puck luck, the ability to capitalize on chances, passion, and clutch saves. The Kings have had all 4 and the Rangers have not had any (other than maybe Hank's performance in period 3 of game 1 (clutch saves) and Zucc last night (passion)).
Very frustrating, but I don't think you can really rip the Rangers for anything other than the perceived lack of passion.

My anxiety level picks up whenever Richards is on the ice. Obviously huge leader on the team, and did not feel this way in last 3 series even though he was not adding much, but last two games he looks awful.

ESPN reporting that Pierre McGuire may join the Penguins front office. I could have sworn from the way he commentated games he was already part of it. Try the veal, I will be here all week.
So who would everyone rather play, Hawks or Kings? Tough call since both are so strong. I guess I lean a little towards Kings since Hawks have stronger, more established D and Toews and Kane are beasts. But Crawford has not been that great lately, and Quick is probably the only goalie in the NHL that is as good as Hank.

If the Rangers play defense and shoot the puck when they get the chance as opposed to trying to make perfect passes every time down the ice they will win the game.
Is it just me or does Borque resemble a generic Game of Thrones henchman?
Let's throw hank back in there
Such BS. Bring up Haley to run Pacioretty!

think about fact that they have also played essentially the last 2 full games without Brass.
Also note that when he ran into Fleury, even Pierre or Doc were incredulous about no goal call saying "what could he have done." The fact that these words were uttered when the Pens were on the other side and when it was "Kristofer Latang" that pulled him down speaks volumes about that play!
@Josh-CK better than having to listen to them verbally blow crosby every time he touched the puck.

So fired up. Don't have the dislike of Canadians that I do for Flyers, Pens and Bruins, but should be a good series, even though we will all have to cheer against Prusser.
Bruins and their fans really showed a lot of class last night throwing things on ice, chirping in hand shake line. Shocking for Boston.....
How is this game gravy!? If they don't win it, does it really matter that they came back from 3-1?
I wholeheartedly agree with Kevin's comments about the Jackets game. I can live with the not scoring if he is giving 110%. He may be doing that but he just looks so listless at times gliding around the ice not hitting or doing much. It is maddening when you compare it to his level in the Jackets game. There is a reason everyone loves Zucc - he brings it almost every night and never appears to take it easy or coast.

you should read some of the user comments under Kovacevic article. i especially liked this one from a soccer-mom looking middle-aged woman: "Check that backstabbing piece of trash Staal into a concussed blathering idiot. Or better yet, just target his head and put a blatant illegal hit on him (make sure he does not leave the ice on his own power) and take the slap on the wrist from this gutless Bettman era of goon driven NHL hockey."
Stay classy pens fans.
i think sit Dorsett for Miller and move Carcillo to fourth line. Would also think of juggling the "first" (Stepan) and "second" (Richards) lines to see if that gets something going. Would not mess with the defense. They have been pretty solid and any marginal offensive jump from adding Diaz probably not worth the risk.
Carcillo is going to be suspended 3 games for embellishment as will the trainer who was rubbing his neck.

Lots of missed nets and passes to empty spots last night by everyone. Very frustrating.
Bruins Palle-Campbell-Thornton killed us in the playoffs last year and the times we played them this year. It drove me nuts. Hopefully our fourth line will get the chance to repay the favor (late) in the playoffs.
Will be interesting to see Diaz play. I remember thinking he was decent when I watched him a few times.

Team plays so much better when zucarello is in. He is a beast. Such good vision.
Certainly true if you could get good prospects and were not thinking about this year, but if nobody is going to give equivalent value and we think we can make a run this year, are we better off holding on to him? I don't know the answer, but I guess the notion of making a run with Cally this year and seeing what happens next seems worth it if we are not going to get anything good for him now.

I think an important question is what the Rangers could do in the off season with the $6-$7 million they save by not signing Cally. It is not quite "getting nothing in return" if they use the money to sign someone else. So who is going to be out there?
Agree. Love the way he plays. Seems like he would be fun guy to toss back some beers with too!

I liked seeing Nash's huge smile after his goal. At least suggests a passion that sometimes seems lacking with him when he is just cruising around the ice.

I would have started Hankie tonight. He plays the caps well and seems like a good win after a week off could have given him a nice fresh start.
