"Now under the wing of former perennial top-tennis and Wimbledon finalist Zina Garrison, Townsend is a gifted youngster. But the weight and fitness issues that generated so much controversy on the eve of the 2012 U.S. Open are not likely to go away any time soon. The issue is too complicated to go into here but certainly deserves to be re-visited at an appropriate time."

Tough to argue with anything here, although I lean toward Nadal and Djoko being a lot closer to a toss-up. Can't wait to see if Nadal's success translates into more confidence against a style that clearly troubles him.

@martind1 you wouldn't know, but I could record myself taking a dump and it would be better than whatever he's made.

"It did feel like the career paths of Murray and Federer crossed at the Australian Open this year. But I can't say I thought that about Federer and Berdych, yet, anyway. He probably needs someone else to take out Rafa on clay and Novak and Murray on hard courts. Does that make him a threat?"
It just makes him like everyone else on tour, pretty much.

It is mindblowing that we live in a world where someone can blatantly make a statement, have it recorded and reaired across myriad venues, then stand up and deny making the statement, when that denial is essentially a lie. There is no grey area here. If I get on television and yell "F% F% F% F% F%" and then say "I absolutely did not say F% F% F% F% F%," am I off the hook? What is this, the twilight zone?

It's strange to hear the backhand volley described as an "asset," as Bud Collins does here, but that is the perfect way to describe Tony Roche's shot. The crosscourt volley he hits at the 1:01 mark is incredible--sharp angle but still with a touch of pace.

Does this site have a glossary? I'm a pretty die-hard football fan and there's almost always stuff on here I do not understand (i.e. "Foster aligned in the 'dot,'" "'Swap' boot").

That being said, I don't think the headline writer means "legitimately." Since it's satire, there is no legitimacy to his concern...

Check that. I am incorrect. I just assumed Capriati was in the semis only thrice and lost 7-6 in the third in each. Mea culpa

TENNIS.com - Features - Top 5 French Open Upsets, No. 2: Soderling d. Nadal
Wouldn't be surprised if they even throw Serena up there as no. 1. To me, Soderling over Nadal is one of the biggest upsets in any Grand Slam, ever, so putting it at no. 2 here is kinda silly.
I've always believed that the French root less against Nadal than they do for Federer. Go back and watch Roger's match point against Soderling in '09--you'd think Gasquet himself just won the whole shebang.

ESPN will never address this. Mary Jo Fernandez, one of their tennis commentators, is married to the agent of Roger Federer (who is just one of many players he represents). Fernandez routinely interviews Federer and other players before and after matches, and sometimes commentates. ESPN has side-stepped this conflict of interest forever and will continue to do so. So if they won't address something that small, it's a pipe dream to imagine transparency regarding Magic.
