Really, last night was all Del Zotto's fault???  The pinch was bad, but c'mon.  And I'm pretty sure DZ wasn't on the ice for all 26,785 shots that Dallas had int he first period...

Without trying to demean or disregard his legacy and all that he did for the Rangers, I think Messier has taken a stance of entitlement with respect to the Rangers recently...This goes back to his second stint with them as a player.  His skills were clearly diminishing, yet he expected 1st line minutes (not that there were that many players who deserved 1st line minutes ahead of him, but I digress)  and his presence seemed to be stifling some of the younger players who were ready to take over the team...

Then he came in as Slat's "Special Assistant" with the expectation of taking over as GM, potentially bypassing some of the other front office guys who had paid their dues.  Now, as Kevin says, he's disappointed that he didn't get the HC job, without any real coaching experience.

Perhaps he's just disappointed in not getting a position he wanted (and that's fair), but if he feels slighted or wronged by the organization, then I have to wonder what it is that Messiah expects to be given and what he's actually earned.

The same exact thing happened in Game 3 after McD gave him the ol' Shake N' Bake...

@PenaltySh0t @proslyn I agree.  All I am saying is that MDZ may still become what we all are hoping for in a two-way d-man, and letting that ship sail now may still be premature.  And if you had a better MDZ AND John Moore, that would be nice...

@PenaltySh0t @proslyn  Which, by the way, I truly hope he does not.

@PenaltySh0t @proslyn It's a very small sample size to use.  Who's to say that Moore doesn't fall off the map next year?

@ATCRyan @proslyn Leetch to 6 years before he was truly reliable in his own end.  I agree that if the right package comes along, he may become expendable if Moore keeps progressing.

I think MDZ needs more time.  Even Brian Leetch (though he won the Calder and Norris trophies) didn't really develop his all world defensive end game until the '93-'94 season.  I'm not saying that MDZ is on the same plane or even in the same universe as Leetch, but learning the defensive game takes time to develop.
