@ATCRyan Hags isn't going to sit.

Thank goodness-(and Anders Hedberg and Gordie Clark) we have Fast and Miller to at least fill in.Have to see how Fast does.He doesn't look out of place at all.

When they play like they did last game, Rangers are hard to play against. They won all the puck battles and hustled to the puck to gain possession. They play 60 minutes like this and they are going to be in the lead on the scoresheet 9 times out of 10,nevermind the good work by the special teams and excellent defence effort. If their goaltending is great, Rangers are going to be very very very difficult to play against for anyone. If everyone on the plays their best Rangers are a very balanced and dangerous team to face.

This win is good for confidence and Rangers have to continue taking it to the Flyers. When they play like this, as they have many times this season, they are real hard to deal with. .Brad Richards has raised his level to awesome mode. Mats Zuccarello and Carl Hagelin both outstanding had the pedal to the metal all game.Everyone played great.Their motto shows New York Rangers are a class act.

if Fast is healthy, I am OK with him.He has proven responsible defensively and can finish better than Carcillo.Watching for rookie mistakes is the only concern, but that is less concern than MIllier would be.So I hope he has confidence remembers his defence and makes the good play.LGR!

Well he has to be bought out.Thats the situation. So many factors including international economics , no great increase in the cap and the salaries we will have to pay -all of that financial stuff is just an avalanche waiting to fall on the Rangers if they don't buy out Richards. So its just too logical-I hope it doesn't confuse Sather.
Who we deal or trade- I hear some posters say Hags- which I think would be a huge error- or sign on depends on how we do in the playoffs now.If we do really well then we don't want to blow up the team obviously and have to try to keep as much good as we can. If it ain't broke don't fix it.We learned that lesson the hard way before by getting rid of the depth under Tortorella.-Mitchell, Fedotenko etc
As far as Richie- he plays good and we go far and then he gets bought out and a new nice deal with another team-that's not bad for him at all.
He has to be amnestied. And we build and re-sign with the money.

Last season the failure of the powerplay can be summed up succinctly: Tortorella and Sullivan. It was totally all on them. This season I am not overly concerned. The coaching staff is competent and the Rangers practice the powerplay all the time. The addition of St.Louis changes a few things but hopefully they get the chemistry going.I wish they would keep Girardi off the powerplay, thats all I would change. They'll be at least normal and hopefully brilliant in their powerplays I expect.
The Rangers PK is excellent and has its machinery running like a top.No problem in the playoffs as far as I see now.
If Rangers just proceed confidently and take care of business as usual we should be good on the special teams.

If any Rangers ie: McDonagh ,are going to be targeted there has to be some sort a plan to counteract this for sure.

Its good.Rangers are signing prospects to make up for the loss of the first/second round picks.Hope they keep doing this all year.

I like both Miller and Fast, and right now from what they've shown I see both as equal in their respective upsides, which are potentially high, and probably very good. They are too close to call for me as to which one is the best.
That said, this is the playoffs and every player takes a spot and causes an effect on the play either positive or negative. The victories are what count now so both players have to bring the best games of their lives to this point. And that has to be of benefit to the team. That is all.No room for any indulgences of rookies at all.
Have to go with whatever AV decides-he is good at player evaluation and has playoff experience.
Man, this team is great. This is so exciting this year! Really invested in this now.Gotta win that first round.LGR!

Its the playoffs - Crease action is gonna be a mainstay for every team.Diaz is the smallest and weakest D so he sits.Just hope that John Moore brings his A game every game.Diaz's excellent shot would be great on the point but he'll be pushed off the puck easier than the others.

Yeah its the playoffs-anyone can win and New York has a great team with a good coaching staff.I look down the roster and there are 13 players with 15 points or more.Lots of players close to 20 goals who missed games.Lots of scoring distribution and balance and one of the stingiest d and best goaltending tandems Hope the team keeps its discipline as it has during the season, it will simply be a series winning tactic- play disciplined, aggressive on the puck and take advantage of your opportunities- that's a good playoff style.Rangers can play like that.

@StAlphonso Years in the making literally for the Rangers. The team has been built and now it is being tested.
1 week, 2 days ago on
@StAlphonso as you say the playoffs are important in seeing what has to be done with this team.I am really hoping that everyone plays their best and produces because this team is so balanced it can go far with its structure and skill level-the sum is greater than its parts.
Hope Boyle steps up in the playoffs-that is where he can show up his critics like me.
@ATCRyan Kesler would be good for the Rangers.I don't know if he wants to work with AV tho.If we could get Kesler without breaking too many eggs it would be nice. But I want to see how the current roster does in this playoffs.
@StAlphonso Boyle never seems to be able to score-no matter what- Its like he has a psychological problem or something-its uncanny. Its remarkable. He can have the puck with no goalie in front of him and still miss. Its truly notable. For that reason and his lack of fighting ability alone I want to get someone tougher and who can score more. Its just me, its time to move on from Brian Boyle if he wants more money-and some team will give it to him-he's gone..He has played well on the fourth line-but I'm sick of him missing goals and getting his ass handed to him by tougher players. Dorsett and Carcillo have played well , but not unusually amazingly well.We should search for some younger cheaper players who can do the same thing.

Zucc Brass Krieds are all RFA and have to be resigned or extended -locking them up is a priority.Richards has to be bought out.
Trades- I keep both Fast and Hagelin if it comes to making a choice-don't see why choosing one over the other is important over the fact they are both affordable skilled players.whom we can use.
. JT Miller- I'd like to get him the development he needs in Hartford if he has on-ice issues- if he has off ice or mental issues then trade him for a big forward prospect or player with edge and grit.
Stralman and Pouliot I would like to see re-signed unless they ask too much or better players become available.Think they would be solid and realistic good players next season
J Moore, Boyle Diaz Carcillo.I am ambivalent about all of them for one reason or another-.Sign Dominic Moore for the fourth line and then get some other cheaper but good quality players,D.Moore makes that line.
Stralman and Pouliot are acceptable if AHL players don't supplant them.which doesn't seem likely cause they're too good.
Hank with a good game Good game against a dangerous team. All the lines worked.Great to see the powerplay get a pair of goals.Fast looked good in his return. Pouliot's goal from Zucc-excellent.That line is awesome.Nice to see RItchie get a couple and MSL with 3 pts. NIcee. These lines should stick for the playoffs if this play continues.
@BobTarter Yeah but its an interesting choice to make if Fast starts well and brings good stuff to the table. Then what? It'll be a more difficult choice then. The skilled guy or the sandpaper guy against a physical team.?
@mando24179 Hags puts teams back on their heels, has since he first started with the Rangers.People were going "Holy shit can this bastard skate! ".He's been a dynamic difference maker since day one., That's just what happened. Fast is apparently good as a 2 way player and has been scoring a lot -that's why he got the call.
I look at the glass like its half full right now.Playoffs are just starting.
Hags is the fastest skater in the entire league and Jesper Fast is comparable in speed. That line is going to put other teams back on their heels.
1 week, 4 days ago on
@rjonyr87 We can take everybody.Step by step.Rangers playoff hockey can get er done.Anything can happen. There's a lot of skill and cohesion on this team and its balanced. And we have Lundqvist and Talbot. All it takes is puck luck and Rangers playing their best level.Stanley cup finals. We've taken the first step.
LGR!! Playoff regulars-.AV makes the playoffs his first year-not shabby.
AV likes Fast, so that is a plus, maybe we'll get to see him play some games until Krieds is better.I hope Fast plays so well he actually takes someone else's spot and sticks. The good thing is that whatever problems were seen with JT Miller are probably not an issue with Fast and Fast has great skills and can finish. But this call up makes a lot of sense -and they should probably call up Oscar Lindberg if Richards plays poorly, but what are you gonna do?
Hagelin and Fast are going to be interesting to watch-could be good chemistry and speed -wow! In any event Rangers are a better team now than the team that played Ottawa.
@Josh-CK The good thing is that Fast has played on the Rangers at the start of the season, with enough time to get used to Richards and other forwards. MSL -man, I hope there is some kind of chemistry with someone, cause it sure ain;'t happening so far,
1 week, 5 days ago on
@Josh-CK I hope that Fast can really get scoring some goals now that he is used to the North american game. That would be so great for the Rangers.
@Josh-CK Myself, I actually like Hags as well as Fast, he's a great energy player who can get a line going when he is a jitterbug as Torts called him.Not negative on the guy at all.I say play both Fast and Hags and see how it goes.
Rangers work on their Powerplay everyday- they'll find the answer. This is not like a Torts team that never even practiced their pitiful powerplay. Things will work out and set plays are going to start working. As long as they keep practicing and making plays, it 'll get back on track.
@Josh-CK Yeah that's great. he's responsible defensively and he has been scoring goals at a good clip lately. Finally a good call up and Rangers won't regret it, I'm sure.He brings some balance to help make up for Krieder being out.
@Brukie_ So you are an expert scout then? Many people who have a lot of hockey knowledge disagree with your prediction.
Richards hopefully improves his game in the playoffs, but he is still a buy-out.The physical stuff, well that's three late game hits and attempts to injure-so that's a pattern that requires some action I would think.Three strikes an your out type of thing. So recall McIIrath for the last few games and be done with it.Its a tough call with McDonagh out +-a rookie on D-but if we make the playoffs a priority is protection for the stars on our team. Also Just recall some reliable Hartford players and see how they mesh.Play Talbot instead of Lundy for a couple of games Theres a lot of options now once we make the playoffs.
But I would watch the pattern of late game hits -that's a serious threat. McIIrath should be getting a phone call for the last games, for sure, once we get in.
Should have won this game which was a back to back for Ottawa. It's a can-do type of thing is more important than game weaknesses at this point.Hopefully it is just a glitch.
Boyle has no place on the third line-call up Jesper Fast or someone who can score-get him starting chemistry .Boyle is a fourth liner.
Seriously- missing Krieder has left scoring and quality gap-bring up Lindberg or Fast.Have them play whatever forward spot is needed. They won't hurt and can only help because both are 2 way players.
MSL didn't get a point -regardless of how he played he is off the scoresheet again-MSL 4-Callahan starting to smell like a bad incompetent deal.
Missing McDonagh but let him rest until he is 100%-Rangers have to win without him,NO excuses.
1 week, 6 days ago on
@BobDunne @KevinTheNYRBlog @fs2020 McIIrath and Haley will probably be on the taxi squad at least for the first round of the playoffs, so I guess its theoretically possible one of them could get the call if they were needed .If for example the series was getting way out of hand with fights and physicality. It would be unlikely I think tho..
2 weeks ago on
I like what Dorsett said about picking a time and place.Have to watch and see what happens next time Rangers play Vancouver. If Burrows receives payback-its a good thing.
2 weeks, 1 day ago on
Sometimes just resting an injury can do wonders.Hope he is sensible about letting himself heal up.Be great to have him back for the playoffs 100 percent healthy.
Jesper Fast is a RW.2 way player playing well-Oscar Lindberg is a center and top scorer on the Wolfpack looks like They've just moved up the call-up list.Either player should be able to fit in and play NHL level if necessary..
For the Ranger's sake and for himself, I hope Miller effectively deals with whatever issue is holding him back.
@tidus_37 @fs2020 Sounds good.He is a future HOF and Ranger fans are hoping he can bring points for the team this playoff and next season.
@tidus_37 Cally is Cally.Plays his heart out and is skilled.I hope you guys sign him.Just a question? How is St.Louis? Are his high points totals the result of being set up? What is your view of him?
Cally is a good player and I hope he can make a deal with Tampa, because Rangers sure couldn't make the deal he wanted. So all the best to a great former Ranger and I hope he signs with Lightning and we get our pick back.
Haggerty and MacCarthy are a step in the right direction but many more steps are needed to make up the impact of losing a first and second round pick.Have to sign some real prospects to make up for that-maybe Russia or Europe as well as the US college ranks.Hope we do cause there is a real gap in the prospect stream now.
@Betweentheworlds @Vader50 @Billfrom Brookhaven I watched Henrik Lundqvist stare in shock one game as Dylan savagely popped a player who had hit Lundy in the face with the butt end of his stick when the ref apparently wasn't looking. That was NHL.and that's McIIrath. He has edge and he is tough enough and willing enough to stick up for his teammates. He knows his role and now the only thing is for his skills to progress to top 4 level, which is likely to happen.
2 weeks, 2 days ago on
@IhaveawaiteratMSG I think Jesper Fast and Oscar Lindberg will both make the team and be good Rangers. They have a lot of skill and its starting to show in the AHL.
One things for sure, from what I've read about the Wolfpack, there are a few other players in Hartford that can be recalled if necessary. Jesper Fast, Dylan MciIrath, Connor Allen, Ryan Bourque. Not sure about Kristo right now-b/c of his defensive side. Jesper Fast can play two way hockey so he might be OK -AV might like him rather than MIller. I could be wrong about this b/c its just from reading about the Pack, not attending any games. But Fast's and Bourque's stats are real good this last part of the season.
If he's not going to play here he's gotta get his ice time in Hartford. He is a prospect and he is being developed.Guess AV didn't like his play at this time of year.I think Miller should take this as learning and really step up his game to get to the next level.
@Bueller Simmonds slash with no retaliation could have led to this same situation with Canucks.Late game attack no response. Now a message has been sent to the teams upcoming.Go ahead and drop a turd on the Rangers if you lose, they won't do anything.Sending Carcillo out is meaningless, Girardi had to step up and have a go at Burrows at that point immediately. Not doing anything puts our players at risk.As we see now.I also desperately hope that McD is OK.But these situations have to be addressed.
2 weeks, 3 days ago on
@DubiLeetchahan @fs2020 When I said Girardi should have retaliated by attacking Burrows, it was because it was the type of hockey hit that should have instant response. It was a late game hit first of all, I originally said 3 minutes but it was more like 40 seconds.(thats why I deleted my post)
Also,It was Burrows ,who is a dbag, and even if it was legal which I doubt, it was borderline intent to injure and definitely targeting .All of these circumstances require that a message be sent to Canucks and other teams who may target Rangers.Girardi is a pretty strong guy and even if Burrows beat him up, it wouldnt' matter.A message would have been given to all teams.
Torts is done. He'll be fired and no GM will hire him.As far as the Rangers, what bugs me about him is the players taking the rap for him, Torts loyal fans saying"He's doing his best with mediocre players-the skill just isn't there" while the players were loyal and long suffering, breaking their bones for him literally-Zuccs and Cally .He mishandled Gabby-another coach could have got even more out of him.
What I liked about him was his nicely bringing along the prospects-Hags, Miller,Stepan, McDonagh Anisimov. (Krieds the exception but he was not playing as well as he did later) Sather should have pulled the plug on Torts a year earlier-but Slat's not that astute. When that Euro coach called Tort's style-"Caveman hockey"-Management should have perked up their ears.
2 weeks, 4 days ago on
Great to hear.Hope the Rangers keep on diligently signing high quality prospects this year and next year to make up for the lost draft picks in the MSL trade. With good development in the Ranger's system some are going to succeed at whatever level in the NHL.
Thanks for the detailed analysis, Adam. I have no beef with Nash. He's a great player, so he gets the dollars. He'll be good for the Rangers going forward. He's certainly no detriment to the team.
My only concern about Rick is that he's fully recovered from the concussion and stays 100 percent. In that case Rangers gonna be fine. He's going to have some spectacular seasons ahead of him.
This year, all I want to see from Nash is the same as everyone else-the player shows up and produces and plays excellent hockey in the playoffs.
@Betweentheworlds @DaveFL @gravey94 I think that Torts was limiting the players,But Rangers were rebuilding and developing players so the effect wasn't horrible. But the last year he had absolutely passed his useful time and had nothing new to offer. It was great that Sather pulled the plug-tho I wonder why he did so-I can't see him being that smart.AV is a better coach-marshmallow or not, he'll be a better coach right now and for the next couple of years for us.He actually thinks offensively as well as defense- what a concept!
