Quite a character who stayed one season too long with the Rangers.Worked out well for the Rangers tho as they acquired AV who is finally a competent good coach capable of consistantly getting to the SC final, unlike Renney and Torts.

The lines in the game worked out alright.I'd like to sit Stempniak and have both Fast and Duclair in.The game plan was followed, urgency was there, and all the lines worked OK.
If the two speedy skilled prospects get some chemistry and experience on their lines, it might be better than Stemps scoring.Plus they could start scoring themselves with some more NHL experience. It worked out for one game-why not roll the dice and try them again.

THe more video reviews the better and good on them if they don't stop play. What happens with goals scored while the review is on? Hockey is a team game and better to have 3 on 3 than the shoot-out as exciting as it is.
A victory should be determined by all game skills rather than just shoot-out skills. And if its a tie its a tie.

@NJRangers81 @gravey94 I agree also. Stepan is getting back in game form, same as last year-he makes a big difference to this team-great player.Brassard played well.Duclair and Fast both played quite well-they should both stay in.Duclair made for an interesting powerplay with his moves.Nash is really trying and he has the skillset to overwhelm any opposition when he is trying.
Krieder might try shooting quicker-just try for that one timer or quick wrister in close. He is letting the goalie see him shoot and thats not going to cut it with NHL goaltenders.

The line up played well.Solid.Maybe try the same line-up again and let Stemp sit.See how it rolls.

I'm not sayin anything about Fast after he took that stupid penalty last game after I had raved about his defence or about Duclair. But I'll say I like this particular lineup and I just hope that the Rangers play a really good game after that last stinker.it's getiing time for the boys to get it together.Due now.Talbot has to shine and everyone has to follow the game plan.Time to start playing and makin it work.
Only watched about a third of this. The Rangers were loose and sloppy all over the ice.Lundqvist looked bad.The Hagelin/ Hayes/ Duclair line seemed to be the only Ranger line not owned by Bolts.Thats not eough right now they are 3rd liners-Have to have our top six working as well as a good 4th line.Miller and/or Lindberg on the 4th if this crap continues. .And the D has to get its act together. No excuses. On to the next.

Playing the best team in the NHL right now-South Florida Rangers so we'll totally defeat them. Its the NYR way. Hope Callahan Boyle and Stralman get a great round of applause at game start-They were great Blueshirts. All the best to them but not against us.

@ChrisCee1 Maybe. But his skill level is helpful when he trying. It's one thing I haven't been able to criticize-he is more skilled all around than the other players. He is definitely helping the team.

Rangers are looking OK 15 games in.If they play this level they'll start winning. However they still have lots to work on.4 on 3 and cycling too much-typical Rangers mistake. You only get so many passes before on is blocked.Be fancy but not all the time.Have some simple plays as alternates-shooting low, going to the net Rangers need to get organized Sometimes its about confidence- Ie Zucc an Krieds-shoot the puck unless you have practiced your feeds.
Maybe try some more drop passes with a trailer.

I turned off the game when Boyle scored.Shocked to see what happened.Oh well.Girardi's OK and we got the point -obviously a coin toss this game.No bad but 4 on 3 needs work -shoot the puck and crowd the net on a play or two when 4 on 3. On to the next.

I mention Jesper Fast not making mistakes and he takes that bonehead penalty in the offensive zone late in the game. Sheesh.Hello Lindberg if that rubbish continues with him.
Hayes is great and getting better every game.Really like the guy good roster addition. Duclair must make himself have the same learning curve now when he gets the chance,
They needed more shots at Varlamov -didn't get them coz Avalanche was stingy and good with sticks. On breakaways Rangers should try shooting low on some goalies once in awhile. Rangers should have played the body more-but after the way the refs called the game maybe that had an effect-bogus call on Dan Boyle for boarding.Nash should be in the shootout. when he is this hot,
Thats the way it goes.Next game.

Jesper Fast said it best about playing on this team:"not making any mistakes" Hunwick has made some and at this level-that kind of stuff cannot be sustained
1 week, 1 day ago on Conversation @ http://nyrangersblog.com/
@J_CKfor30 Absolutely true. Now if Rangers could find a good replacement for Hunwick, they'd be all set.

@Gianni74 I think this is what the situation is.He's not good enough yet for the top six and putting Duc on the third line weakens that third line -even tho Stempniak doesn't have as much talent as Duc. Stemp has a better all round game at the moment .Finally,He's not a fourth line player.Moore Hayes and Fast are all clearly better in that role than him. So he sits in the press box or goes back to Quebec.
@Purinton Disagree about Fast-think he is underrated and is not a tough guy but not a wuss either-he throws his checks. He doesn't stand out is all,but he is definitely improving that fourth line-its noticeable. And that's not a small thing on the Rangers-there is good competition for that 4th line spot on this team. He's winning so far.
Kristo has had problems with his all around game apparently-defence?.Eventually traded unless he improves lots ,IMO.
Great game.Typical for Rangers to look abysmal against a poor team then turn into a powerhouse balanced team against a top team.I liked Fast -he added something to the fourth line and it played alright.I liked that he doesn't sit and wait for the play to come to him.Likewise Hayes who also goes after the puck, keeps improving every game, these guys may not be scoring yet but they add more to the team at the moment with their skill and they definitely help.As can be seen by the results last night -Rangers didn't miss Duclair's game at all.John Moore is back and Allen is gone and defence is improved markedly-now to get rid of Kostka when Boyle is back.
As for Duclair I would rather have Fast on the team right now.I can see keeping Duke around in case he is needed- no problem with that-but he might be better served in juniors, I don't know what direction is best with him-but he isn;t strong enough yet to hold his own in the NHL and isn't playing away from the puck well enough,He;s going to be, but not this year.
@JoeyKocur If McIIrath can settle down and stay out of the penalty box for awhile when he's in the NHL he could actually be alright and a heap better than Kosta Allen and Hunwick.IF he gets the chance -it would be a challenge to do that- but he probably is serviceable stay at home clear the crease type if given some games .The thing he has to get -which I think he is starting to- is not to make mistakes(which includes fighting at the wrong time). The other d rookies haven't caught on to that yet. They still don't get it.

@xiceee you're correct,I forgot about Moore already...lol
1 week, 4 days ago on Conversation @ http://nyrangersblog.com/
Jesper Fast recalled so some much needed 2-way skill in the line-up.OK with this though Malone gives net presence. Its better to have the more skilled player overall on the team.
Connor Allen sent down so Boyle might be ready.
@J_CKfor30 Have to see if Lindberg can win faceoffs in the NHL consistently- if he can then absolutley he should be brought in as Rangers have to improve there,Faceoffs have to be improved.I am still on the fence about Duclair and if he doesn't get a lot of points then I would want Fast brought back up on the fourth lne and Duclair sent back to Juniors.
Henrik deserved better.Team in front of him had no motivation and no effort. They gotta increase the effort or some players are going to be brought up.Nobody impressed except Lundqvist. Team needs some motivation in the locker room apparently. Not getting it done costs them two points.
@freebie23 if Duclair is really good he'll earn his way onto higher lines.Last game he was not giving the 110% effort backchecking on the goal there. He has to get rid of coasting tendencies from the junior league and learn to cover his man every shift, play away from the puck in other words. These guys have to be given the chance to succeed I agree. But he has to earn his way by play -not be given rewards for nothing. He has to produce on any line he is on.

Hayes reminds me a bit of of Brian Boyle. If he can pick up his game, as he seems to be doing Rangers are really getting back on track to a solid 4 line team.He has big shoes to fill as far as stepping in for B.Boyle.If he can get more face offs, be a little more physical start scoring a few-then he's on his way.Lots of potential.
I don't expect much of a change with those rookie Dmen-basically they're all too crappy. Henrik is in goal so we should win though, he's usually a difference maker in games for us. Rangers keep possession and we're good.
@KevinMccarthy @fs2020 has good stats but t think his first loss for him tonight.4-2
@J_CKfor30 @fs2020 He's playing well in Hartford right now, sure see how the guy does.
Rookies on the ice for 4 of the 5 goals. Hunwick, Kostka ,Allen,Talbot lets in 5. That's the game story. When Moore and Boyle get back this team is back on track.
Not that Talbot won't play better but I'm watching the goalies in Hartford now: Skapski showing promise.
Wasn't impressed by Stemp's play tonight..
@nasoov @fs2020 Up to this game.He has to play better in the second and third.
1 week, 6 days ago on Conversation @ http://nyrangersblog.com/
Kostka has cost us. Our substitute D's are not aggressive and that second power play unit-Duclair should have had Holland ....rookie mistakes.
HNIC Saturday night game.Should be a good game from both teams. Duclair and Hayes get to do some learning 2 way play tonight on the 4th line .See how they do.Step is back and Rangers are instantly a better team.
Hunwick is appearing to be a good journeyman so far. A great find by the Rangers if his play continues. Duclair has those flashes of talent but clearly has to learn a lot more about play away from the puck-he should note JT Miller's situation and really watch Hags and Nash and St Louis and see what is required in the NHL level as far as play away from the puck and being a puck hawk.Same would apply to Hayes-but he is actually impressing more as he goes along.Good game from the Blueshirts. Brassard playin well as is Nasher and St Louis.-good to see now.

Looking forward to McIIrath and Allen.Hope they both play well.I Expect McIIrath to do OK .Just want him not to take a misconduct or something that gets him tossed.Hoping he gets matching penalties for any he takes. His physicality is going to be helpful against the Blues. And I am actually relieved that there is some protection for our players out there on the blueline now, after all these injures.I hope Allen can really change the way he has apparently been playing lately and step up to this opportunity.Gonna be fun checking these two players out.

@Gorangers0525 As far as Hartford call ups-Reading another blog reporting on the Hartford game last night: McIIrath was unanimously the best Hartford Dman in the game and Connor Allen was not really impressive.Hughes and Bodie were playing OK.Talk was of Bodie overtaking Allen if Connor doesn't improve.
Well if there going to bring someone up from Hartford, now's the time. McIIrath is a big body if he can play reasonable d and fill minutes without costing the team anything,I'd like to see another big body on the team.Besides all of the toughness-his size and not being a pylon are a huge plus for him.Not looking at offence tho which would be good.
Allen has offense so his skill maybe an answer but only if he can fill reasonable d minutes without costing the team.He isn't that physical and physicality is needed to a degree in the NHL for most dmen. But he may be a fit short term.
If either of them or both can play NHL hockey we don't need a trade-give either of them a chance for a few games to prove they can play.
@BroadwayBlueZ For the sake of the Rangers and McIIRath, I haven't seen him enough to make that assessment, and to be honest I have doubts whether most of his blog critics have either.Have you watched a number of his games in on the Wolfpack?
Before he is so summarily dismissed, I think McIIrath deserves a fair chance in the NHL to show everyone what level of player he really is.Recall him and see how he fares.

@J_CKfor30 Yeah Rangers signing Tarasenko might have made the difference in winning the Stanley Cup last year.He is a real good forward.
However we are in the reality of having signed Dylan McIlrath and myself I would like to see myself how his play is and have him recalled now if Moore is out for a good number of games.I'd like the opportunity to see for myself and I think he can't be worse than Kostka.
@McPhee37 In the video Krieder looks like he checked how close the boards were after the Minnesota player slid into them.Yeah he has to pull in his horns a bit.
3 weeks, 3 days ago on Conversation @ http://nyrangersblog.com/
Hope they recall McIIrath and we can see how he does.If he's a disaster he can be sent back.Doubt very very much he is a worse dman than Kostka. He might surprise and if successful its actually giving us a physicality we have needed on the D, especially for Henrik's protection. Some extra penalties no doubt but hopefully he's learned more than Moore not to get suspended.
@SmellyKisio First mistake:Blind pass by Mueller by the boards to nowhere then an extremely risky and dumb move by McDonagh to pinch in to try to stop Montreal from getting the puck. That situation doesn't happen if Stepan is playing center.St Louis was as ready as he could be to take action but he was too far back to catch them. Kreids might have been able to accelerate and catch if he was as saavy as St Louis but he was caught watching and was too far back .No excuse really. Dumbass decision making by Mueller and McDonagh is all.

Outplayed. Kreider Hayes Nash line not a factor.Hags and Kleinmensch and Lundqvist were fine. Duclair showing his usual and coming up with a point. Maybe he should play with MSL Time to shuffle the lines a bit. Zucc was neutralized and so was Brassard .The D was sluggish and didn't bring their game tho Girardi played well.Eventually consider calling Jesper Fast to help if the defense continues to stink-need to add something more d capable to this team.
3 weeks, 6 days ago on Conversation @ http://nyrangersblog.com/
A season in Hartford won't hurt Miller if it comes to that.Lots to learn for the dude in the pro game, plus he has to polish his game if he wants to make the Rangers.Speedy as he is.Hags has got to score more and Zucc too.I think they both are totally aware of that and seasoned pros enough to know what they have to do.Nash wasn't the brightest crayon in the box last year to get into a fight and aggravate his concussion and to take his conditioning for granted.Great do see he has enough intelligence to realize he had to do something about his issues and he did.
Hunwick is playing well but can't diminish the need for a Dman of Staal's talent and ability. If Staal signs with the Rangers there should be a huge sigh of relief from Ranger fans. He's the easiest crucial signing on the D after McDonagh.I'll leave out Girardi cause that was basically a mistake signing.
Habs tonight are going to be fired up.Mixed emotions there.A rather sad atmosphere in Canada and there's going to be a tribute to the 2 soldiers who were killed.
All the Rangers have to watch their backs and be wary of these Habs and Pruster. Duclair has his chance now-I hope he does well-he is sure to be motivated. and if the Habs are the same team as last year Rangers should win if they have their act together tonight. They have started gelling pretty well so I am so looking forward to this game.
@4tonynoluck @ObviouslyTwoPointsAreGreat @Goethe11 Yeah skating speed is basically meaningless in today's NHL if you can't get 100 points or have the ability to knock someone's ass out.
4 weeks ago on Conversation @ http://nyrangersblog.com/
Hope its a good game.Montreal couldn't deal with our speed last year and gonna see if they have rectified that this year. Duclair gets to play in his hometown and I hope he has good luck. With Duclair and Hags we have a fast couple of wingers on that third line so have to see how that works.Second line is small but have to see if it can work.Hope everbody watches their backs and looking forward to this -hope both teams come to play.
@MikeBlue Speed and skill plus luck got the Rangers to where they were last year. Then they ran into a team that had that plus size.It was titanic but the bigger team won.So I agree that size is necessary to win the SC.Hayes, Krieder and Nash are a competitive line in that aspect.Nonetheless, speed is what got the Rangers to the finals or was an extremely critical element in their success.I don't want to sacrifice speed in order to get bigger-it would be counter productive.but If we can add a skill player with size without sacrifice -its a good thing.
