@BroadwayBlueZ For the sake of the Rangers and McIIRath, I haven't seen him enough to make that assessment, and to be honest I have doubts whether most of his blog critics have either.Have you watched a number of his games in on the Wolfpack?
Before he is so summarily dismissed, I think McIIrath deserves a fair chance in the NHL to show everyone what level of player he really is.Recall him and see how he fares.

@J_CKfor30 Yeah Rangers signing Tarasenko might have made the difference in winning the Stanley Cup last year.He is a real good forward.
However we are in the reality of having signed Dylan McIlrath and myself I would like to see myself how his play is and have him recalled now if Moore is out for a good number of games.I'd like the opportunity to see for myself and I think he can't be worse than Kostka.

@McPhee37 In the video Krieder looks like he checked how close the boards were after the Minnesota player slid into them.Yeah he has to pull in his horns a bit.

Hope they recall McIIrath and we can see how he does.If he's a disaster he can be sent back.Doubt very very much he is a worse dman than Kostka. He might surprise and if successful its actually giving us a physicality we have needed on the D, especially for Henrik's protection. Some extra penalties no doubt but hopefully he's learned more than Moore not to get suspended.
@SmellyKisio First mistake:Blind pass by Mueller by the boards to nowhere then an extremely risky and dumb move by McDonagh to pinch in to try to stop Montreal from getting the puck. That situation doesn't happen if Stepan is playing center.St Louis was as ready as he could be to take action but he was too far back to catch them. Kreids might have been able to accelerate and catch if he was as saavy as St Louis but he was caught watching and was too far back .No excuse really. Dumbass decision making by Mueller and McDonagh is all.

Outplayed. Kreider Hayes Nash line not a factor.Hags and Kleinmensch and Lundqvist were fine. Duclair showing his usual and coming up with a point. Maybe he should play with MSL Time to shuffle the lines a bit. Zucc was neutralized and so was Brassard .The D was sluggish and didn't bring their game tho Girardi played well.Eventually consider calling Jesper Fast to help if the defense continues to stink-need to add something more d capable to this team.

A season in Hartford won't hurt Miller if it comes to that.Lots to learn for the dude in the pro game, plus he has to polish his game if he wants to make the Rangers.Speedy as he is.Hags has got to score more and Zucc too.I think they both are totally aware of that and seasoned pros enough to know what they have to do.Nash wasn't the brightest crayon in the box last year to get into a fight and aggravate his concussion and to take his conditioning for granted.Great do see he has enough intelligence to realize he had to do something about his issues and he did.
Hunwick is playing well but can't diminish the need for a Dman of Staal's talent and ability. If Staal signs with the Rangers there should be a huge sigh of relief from Ranger fans. He's the easiest crucial signing on the D after McDonagh.I'll leave out Girardi cause that was basically a mistake signing.
Habs tonight are going to be fired up.Mixed emotions there.A rather sad atmosphere in Canada and there's going to be a tribute to the 2 soldiers who were killed.

All the Rangers have to watch their backs and be wary of these Habs and Pruster. Duclair has his chance now-I hope he does well-he is sure to be motivated. and if the Habs are the same team as last year Rangers should win if they have their act together tonight. They have started gelling pretty well so I am so looking forward to this game.

@4tonynoluck @ObviouslyTwoPointsAreGreat @Goethe11 Yeah skating speed is basically meaningless in today's NHL if you can't get 100 points or have the ability to knock someone's ass out.
6 days, 8 hours ago on Conversation @ http://nyrangersblog.com/
Hope its a good game.Montreal couldn't deal with our speed last year and gonna see if they have rectified that this year. Duclair gets to play in his hometown and I hope he has good luck. With Duclair and Hags we have a fast couple of wingers on that third line so have to see how that works.Second line is small but have to see if it can work.Hope everbody watches their backs and looking forward to this -hope both teams come to play.

@MikeBlue Speed and skill plus luck got the Rangers to where they were last year. Then they ran into a team that had that plus size.It was titanic but the bigger team won.So I agree that size is necessary to win the SC.Hayes, Krieder and Nash are a competitive line in that aspect.Nonetheless, speed is what got the Rangers to the finals or was an extremely critical element in their success.I don't want to sacrifice speed in order to get bigger-it would be counter productive.but If we can add a skill player with size without sacrifice -its a good thing.

AV is a well experienced, exceptional NHL coach who'll likely be the Rangers head coach for many years, and deservedly so. Sather and company made the right decision in choosing him, no doubt. And it was the loss of the Canucks in the Torts-AV exchange obviously.

@KevinMccarthy I'm a big fan of Hagelin. He's an absolutely great Ranger.Worked his way onto the team the honest way and proved all of his naysayers wrong at every step. But still the same old baloney and delusory arguments about his usefulness and skills continue.Such is life.Looking forward to Hags having a good year and getting some meaninful points and once again destroying the views of his critics.

@BringBackBeukeboom @RangersAndRadio @leftwingbarbara The Rangers second leading goal scorer in the SC playoffs last year is not the best choice for fourth line. Duke would have to score goals every single chance he gets to move Hagelin down. Also Malone might be gone and a Hartford player up if Malone is too slow and doesn't score.

@NYR 2014 @fs2020 It's a heck of a good problem for the Rangers to have, to have a player like Duclair as depth player, but a decision may have to be made about the Duke..
Rangers are starting to regain last year's chemistry, starting to get back on track as a team.Watching and still waiting for Malone and Glass, to put on show -if they can. everybody else to a man is showing something above and beyond .Zucc and Hags are going to get their acts rolling.no worries. Hayes Mueller and Hunwick are so far, so good. Duclair may have to wait.for his chance.team is really solid right now.
Win with style.Every goal was a good goal.Second effort.Skill.Loved this game.Plus the shutout for Henke.Hayes is getting better every game.Hags is back. MSL scores a Rangers dirty goal Nash is in beast mode. Those were not chumps we beat even tho they were maybe tired. They are a real good team.Happy about this win.It was well done.

@gravey94 Hayes has been improving and been making some good offensive passing and set ups.Still he is being evaluated tho-he has a rep as a good shot -so we have to see that with some goals. Its good news so far tho with his play.
1 week, 5 days ago on Conversation @ http://nyrangersblog.com/
@KevinTheNYRBlog @fs2020 Honestly I don't know what they would do.But having a regular point producer like Hagelin on the fourth line seems a waste of his talent.
Duclair still needs to be evaluated so keeping him and sitting him in the press box for some games allows him to be put in games where he can show what he can do, if he proves himself then we can decide then-he hasn't proved himself yet-not enough games
.Hags is probably going to get back to his old self and play well, so moving him down to the fourth line may be not the best option
@DP_Snotty @fs2020 V
Very good point.Good luck to Miller -hopefully any mental issues from last year have been sorted out.He has the skills to play NHL but he mainly has to show he can produce points now- that would stop a lot of criticism of him.The same goes for the other prospect players. This demotion is actually positive for Miller and Fast as it gives good pro playing time to them instead of sitting them on the bench.
1 week, 6 days ago on Conversation @ http://nyrangersblog.com/
They'll get more playing time and a chance to score goals in Hartford, which both must do to get the recall back- which'll happen if Malone doesn't score any or is somehow a detriment with his speed.
I like Fast- if he can start scoring goals- he is useful with his defence skill-very useful. He has to score tho.
Miller has a lot of talent with the puck but hasn't been able to score-that's a big deal for a top nine wannabe.Plus he has issues away from the puck and maybe attitude from the rumours. So there's more issues with him than Fast.
Its also about scoring goals as well as defense. RIght now the goal scorers are Nash and Brassard, as it should be. Krieder Stempniak St Louis are getting their points.
Zucca is playing banged up so he has temporary excuse. That leaves Hags -who should be getting his points. Ryan McDonagh also should be scoring more..
Basically Malone, Fast Miller Hayes are all in a contest to see who can score and stay.Whoever of that group scores goals consistently is going to be on the team.Whoever doesn't should be sent down.
Nash's play lately:.absolutely what he is supposed to be-an elite player.
Watched a lot of defencemen in my time. There are better dmen than Marc Staal in the NHL. But none that we're going to get. His level of play when he is playing at his at his best is elite. No question at all.To lose him would create a hole that we would struggle for years to fill and knock us out of immediate contention for the cup -which is where we are now and built for years to achieve. Its not the end of this team not to sign him but it'd be the end of playing in the SC finals for awhile.
2 weeks ago on Conversation @ http://nyrangersblog.com/
Staal is important and Rangers should pay his price-he isn't that replaceable. The Girardi signing was bad and convenient and messed things up.He should have been traded and another solution found. But thats water under the bridge.Staal would be an important part of this team going forward even if the rest of the d was stellar, which it isn't at this point. He can play at the level the team needs to win the SC.Sign him.
Duclair and Hayes are bright spots so far. They both can learn to hustle back on the defense more when they don't have the puck and cover their man better. That's learning curve stuff.Glad that Hayes started taking his shots.About Hayes -I wonder if Hayes can snipe -He is supposed to have a good shot. Its all about goal production and if they can get some goals these two look like two good roster additions . if Miller can't get production going there's just no place for him.Whoever can score goals gets to stay-it should be as simple as that.
On defence- McIIratth can play better than Kostka or Hunwick.and what's wrong with a good scrap once in awhile-its entertaining and can fire up the team..Bring him up. Defence can't get worse than it is and he has played and practiced with all the D before.
2 weeks, 1 day ago on Conversation @ http://nyrangersblog.com/2014-articles/islanders-6-rangers-3.html
Rookie mistakes .Subpar goaltending and thats the game.Otherwise the team played well. Some more work needed by Duclair away from the puck.Hayes also. Both good with the puck.Bring McIIrath up and you'll see some good games from him along with some mistakes-much better than Kostka or Hunwick who just offer less.Or Connor Allen would be good if he can hold his ground physically.
2 weeks, 2 days ago on Conversation @ http://nyrangersblog.com/2014-articles/islanders-6-rangers-3.html
Now's Malone's chance-good luck to him. Zucc-even banged up- is a 100 percent upgrade over JT Miller. Now the team -especially the D -has to get over its confusion zeitgeist and milieu of dumbass. LGR!
2 weeks, 2 days ago on Conversation @ http://nyrangersblog.com/
Its going to take at least 15 games to get this team together with Steps and Boyles injuries. That's enough time to see Hayes-who keeps improving, Miller-who hasn,t done anything, Fast-who hasn't scored but has been really good defensively,Malone-who was effective in preseason and should be OK,,Duclair-who is putting on a show Glass -who has been a mixed bag,Plus we can see how things are unfolding in Hartford during this time.At fifeen games or so Rangers will know what they have and what they have to do.
2 weeks, 3 days ago on Conversation @ http://nyrangersblog.com/
Unless there is a real big change in him when Stepan gets back JT MIller goes back to AHL,
Duclair, Fast and Hayes have all shown enuf to stay.Hoping Hayes just keeps improving-liked his play.

@scrangersfan @fs2020 Hah!
Out played. Thas all.Home game for a skilled good young hockey team.
On the positive side. Duclair is beginning to make me take him seriously. He could and should stick if he plays like this consistently.Liked his game- he is doing what has to be done.Terrific.It'll be a long stint for him if he sticks but he is really playing the way he should right now.
Hags usually fits with anyone but in this case he hasn't found his groove yet and that line isn't generating chemistry or accomplishing anything.Time for a change. I think AV was yelling at Hags to go north south in the St Louis game so he has to get his game going.Maybe with Fast for a Swedish connection I think Brassard was centering those two at one point in the game-no?Worth a try.
Kreider jumping in but that's what Tanner Glass is for.Hope Krieds doesn't get suspended-he doesn't deserve it for that wrestling match.Sure wish Dylan was good enough to be up and could take care of things the proper way-waiting for the right moment and all that.Oh well, that time'll come-hopefully this year.
Talbot is a back up level positional goal tender. He's going to be playing as well as last year pretty much.Just a bad game from him. There are certain to be good ones as well.
Overall.Only the second game of the season.Move on to the next one. LGR!
Not worried about Malone. He'll get his shot at some point and likely change AV's mind. JT Miller is knocked to the fourth line and has to know he has to bring it now-there is no line where he can not produce and stick around the Rangers.Hayes is the same -he has to produce and now maybe his best shot-early season-prove the 3rd line center is his to keep.
Geez what a bunch of injuries -hope they decrease as the team moves on into the season and gets in better shape and used to games. Like the idea of a Sami Salo or someone that can at least skate and play acceptable D if we don't give up assets- It doesnt matter who as long as they aren't useless like Hamrlick.
2 weeks, 6 days ago on Conversation @ http://nyrangersblog.com/
@rangermom @fs2020 He's a big boy, not as stable on skates as MSL.Overall, I really hope he makes it because I think he'll develop positive meaningful interactions with gentlemen like Wayne Simmonds and Brooks Orpik.
I haven't given up on McIlrath at all. Though I'll readily jump ship and say that I was hoping for Tarasenko in that draft.I haven' watched Wrath a lot but what I did observe was some dopey out of position moves and checks and a lot more acceptable ones, north south speed not a problem, ability to make a first pass.He appeared not ready when I saw but some others who regularly watch the dude say he can play defence .So I am still rooting for him to make the team this season at some point. Overall its getting close to time to officially say that it wasn't the optimal pick-but it could still hopefully turn out to be an acceptable one.
@BobDunne @fs2020 I guessing maybe that's why they didn't bring up Dylan Mcilrath-no use in him sitting in the press box.
@IhateGaborik @fs2020 Yeah I think he'll be alright and definitely bring an edge to the team

@Skate31 Boyle out 4-6 weeks
Hmm.Not good.Hope its gonna be McIIrath called up-no trade..The defence are going to have a lot of pressure.Rangers should have resigned Diaz I guess.
Hags'll be fine-he's played top six tons. That extra speed and drive to the net combined with the deadliness of Zucc and Brass might just be the magic touch for a great line.
Allen would be the painless trade.Especialy after watching Simmonds show him who's boss.Want to see how Mcilrath interacts with guys like Simmonds.

Good prediction.I agree with it, but Duclair may get his 10 games if he continues to shine. However,he still should be sent down coz its a helluva long season with Rangers for someone just out of juniors and he also needs to bulk up some.

Good to see the all the candidates post points.Duclair Wow! However, there's more preseason games on the schedule.Conistancy is needed to crack the roster.

Yeah really, Hayes and Lindberg can bring versatility and skill at least.Pyatt was such a limited player
So no Stepan for the first month and a half.Everybody moves up one and Oscar Lindberg moves to the 4th line if he is ready.plus Hayes is gettin any rough edges polished and is going to be there if need be.Not great but it'll turn out well and we'll start winning.Lindberg and Hayes are both talents.
I would say Staal s a must sign. Staal isn't irreplaceable, but replacing him could take years and likely just as much if not more money. Injuries are not as big a concern the more recovery time he has.He is a core player. McDonagh and Staal are the lynch pins of the Ranger defence. At this time we need him to stay to be an SC contender or winner.Gotta sign the dude.

@Josh-CK When you see what level of of player Staal is likely to be in the future, that Girardi contract really is an irritant.Staal could possibly be playing at the highest levels we have seen him play ALL the time as he enters his prime. That would make him one of the best D in the NHL.Not easy to replace that -pay him his money, I say.
