@cvrinc @TheConman I'm having a hard time caring one way or the other who the GM is. Friedman will run the show, that's all that matters.

@Robworldwide @BehindOrangeLines @capnsparrow You do understand that Gibson's homer was one of the ULTIMATE "blind squirrel finds the nut from time to time" moments, don't you?
1 week, 3 days ago on Baseball Twitter reacts to Dodgers’ hiring of Andrew Friedman
@Diane Nguyen 9ers fan @Robworldwide @capnsparrow I'd actually be okay with Kirk Gibson being relegated to that fate as well.
Fuck the playoffs.

@KMT59 It should be mandatory to ask, I think. I mean, why not?
2 weeks, 3 days ago on Cardinals 3, Dodgers 2: So That Happened, Again
@ tomato @exceedingly boring potato AJ would be a wonderful backup, and given his history with the team and his rappimply parting ways with the guy.
@exceedingly boring potato @NoHitWin2008 Ah, I take it back then. That's a wrinkle I had forgotten about.
Does he have a trade kicker as well? Looks like we've already paid out $14M of the $28M h's owed, so I wonder if they'd just try to move Guerrero with only 3/$14M left? And I wonder how a trade would affect his MLB service time clause?
@Ashamed Meth Goat @NoHitWin2008 @BluESQ Yeah, there's better and worse out there, that's for sure.
@raydog1 It hurts but I'm excited for the future. Lest we forget, this was a franchise that was crippled by McCourt. The turnaround has been incredible, if not a bit wild. We've got some great talent in the minors, the ability to spend a boatload of money, and international scouting is back in a big way. Overall, I'm happy.
@BluESQ If one goes, then both are gonners. My completely uneducated gut-feeling guess is that it's a coin toss, which is to say the chances are higher than I even imagined they'd be at this point.
@exceedingly boring potato I have a feeling that Dee's here to stay. I just don't see the team trading him when the alternative is the completely unknown A. Guerrero. I mean, the team looked reluctant to even play Alex at 2B, let alone start the guy there.
If I was a betting man, I'd give higher odds to Alex being moved over Dee, and even higher odds that both stay put.
@LA_Woman @NoHitWin2008 @exceedingly boring potato @TheConman Yeah, personally I agree. I love his bat; we all do. I think it's time for him to make that switch, though. Age, injuries, defense, and his decline phase are not things that excite me.
@exceedingly boring potato @NoHitWin2008 @TheConman I'm torn on Hanley. This year he was a 3.4 win player this year, he turns 31 before Xmas, and he's injured all of the time. Combine that with the fact that the Yankees need a SS and can also DH him, and I think it's almost a foregone conclusion that he's a gonner.
@TheConman There's no way this happens. They were talking extension with him early in the season, and now we're supposed to believe that the F.O. is scared off by one year at $15M? No way, not a chance.
@YadierMolinasOedipalComplex There's no way they don't Q.O. him. No way.
@BlueMarvin I had the Nats ahead of the Dodgers, and the Tigers ahead of everyone else in the AL, but yeah, I hear ya.
@Barney (Not Darwin) It'll be more of an impalement than a voluntary falling.
@KLee811 @NoHitWin2008 No way Kemp or Puig get moved. Crawford has started to up his value a little bit, but his contract (3/$62.25M) is more expensive than Ethier's (essentially, 3/$56M if you include the buyout at the end).
I'm just guessing, but I think it'll be Ethier moved along with a shit ton of cash in order to acquire an unimpressive relief prospect or something like that. The writers here seem to feel the same way, and I think that makes the most sense.
As for Joc, he's gonna have to force his way onto the team. I don't see them moving two expensive OFers and eating a shit ton of cash simply so they can hand him the job and see what he does with it.
@Jacopo (How is this a bad plan!) I'm not trying to be snarky, but my guess is that it would be someone very un-Ned-like. Who that is or could be, I have zero clue. The ownership group never got to install someone "fresh" to run the ship, so my guess is that they could go outside rather than promote from within (ala L. White). Who knows, though.
@KLee811 I don't think you'd ever want to see wither guy there except for 1B, and even then...
@The place beyond the Pins @Disgruntled Goat @Mike Petriello Both, I'm sure.
@YadierMolinasOedipalComplex @Table @Mike Petriello I also think that people overlook his age; dude's gonna be 32 years old before the season starts. Old catchers are scary.
Quick thanks to Mike, Chad, Dustin, and Daniel. I lurk a lot more than I post on here, but I have to say that I am continually impressed by the quality of technical writing as well as the content that you guys publish on the site. Good on all of you, and thank you for that. Cheers!
@YadierMolinasOedipalComplex I keep hoping that Wallach will get hired away as someone else's manager. Does that make me a bad person?
@- Casey - Reading Grant's article while watching the Giants sink in five would help quite a bit!
@LA_Woman That's a super healthy attitude to have; I mean that. I'm envious that you're already in that head space, as it will probably take me about a week or two to get there.
@Tired Maths Cat @NoHitWin2008 It pretty much sums up the entire season, really.
@Tired Maths Cat @NoHitWin2008 Thank you, Math Cat!
Grant helping with a recap of sorts.
"This game can tell us something, alright, but it's about the Dodgers, not one player on the Dodgers. Kershaw was pitching on three day's rest because $250 million can't buy a reliable fourth starter, and he was in the game after 100 pitches because the most expensive bullpen in the world is a disappointment. Kershaw was starting the game because of disappointments elsewhere on the roster, and he was still in the game because of different disappointments."
@capnsparrow Yeah, we're on Hanley countdown now. That situation will be the first domino, at least in terms of player personnel.
@Purple Drank Yeah, I've never been a huge Don-hater, but I'm over it now. I'd be more than happy to see him canned. It's inexcusable.
2 weeks, 3 days ago on 2014 NLDS Game 4, Part 2
Puig pinch runs and doesn't pinch hit?
@CloudyWithaChanceofMeatblahs @NoHitWin2008 I'm not the biggest Don-hater in the world, but that in itself would be completely indefensible. Pitchers spot coming up in the ninth, so we'll see what happens.
Is a healthy Yasiel Puig really not going to get a PA in the potential final game of our season?
@I Digesti Yeah, I know that we're not privy to all the goings on of the F.O., but I imagine it could have been very tempting to move Matty if something even remotely defensible came along.
Luckily for us nothing came about, and Ned stood pat in that regard.
2 weeks, 6 days ago on Dodgers 3, Cardinals 2: This Sport Is Bad For Your Health
So glad that we weren't foolish and hung on to Kemp. As much as I dislike NedCo, he's been quite a bit better in recent memory. Also, isn't there some cliche line about the best trades sometime being the trades you don't make? I'd be remiss to not include that here.
Ned made a good trade by not making a bad trade with Kemp. Good job, Ned.
The way we lost the game was absolutely brutal, but I doubt many of us thought that this was gonna be a sweep. I still like our chances; it's not even close to over.
Now, we cough up tomorrow's game, then yeah, that'd pretty much be that. Until then though, I'm still hopeful.

I don't know if I'm being a tad over sensitive, but likening certain types of players to animals in an unflattering way seems like it could be rooted in something ugly.
