I think the signing is a bit rich but I'm okay with it. The problem is top centers in their prime rarely become FAs. I'd rather pay brassard 5mill and hope he takes the next step than sign a aging Jason spezza next offseason to a massive deal when we all know his best days are behind him. Good move sather.

@Josh6 @Ranger Dave @jplcrusader @GiveGartneraCup you are right. there is only 1 man (#11) that can make a guarantee...

@GiveGartneraCup @Josh6 @jplcrusader guys - we are not keeping richards for 7 more years i promise you that. 1 more and he is gone. do you really think signing horton for 4 years or briere for 3 years is better than keeping richards for 1 more year?
@Josh6 @jplcrusader i hear ya. and what if mcd and hank get hurt?! we can play the what if game all offseason. obviously they felt that keeping richards for 1 more year was better than signing a FA for multiple years. richards gets bought out next offseason. we sign hank to hopefully a cap friendly deal and we move from there...
i don't have an issue with bringing richards back. we can always buy him out next off season if his game doesn't improve. we have the money to sign our own RFAs and regarding the UFAs that are out there - who do you really want - VL - he is old. i wouldn't give him a multi-year deal. Horton / Briere - they are always hurt. i wouldn't give them a multi year deal either. the only guy i would want is bickell. Give Sather the benefit of the doubt, maybe he feels the price is going to be way to high for him. let's hope richards gets his head out of his ass and finds his game. We still have chips (ie DZ, boyle, prospects) to deal and we are not even in july yet!
Lets be patient.
@PenaltySh0t @jplcrusader i hear ya pal. dorsett is probably still trying to find his game after missing so much time and 7 minutes a game is barely enough time to get it going. but you could bet prust would have had something to say to chimera after the hits on clowe and stralman. thats all im trying to say here. someone needs to stand up and say enough is enough.

Nash and Richards are killing us for sure. Need more production out of them if this team is going to fight off elimination. Its a shame about Clowe - lets hope its not a concussion. Maybe he dinged up his wrist and can return for game 6. Because w/o him I'm not sure we match up physically with any team. I'm amazed how soft we have become in 1 year. To be honest, I expected a little more snarl from Dorsett. Especially with all of the Prust comparisons. Maybe he is just weary of taking a bad penalty. I love Callahan's heart. He is the only 1 running around and hitting everything that moves but it has zapped his energy to be an offensive force. Hags has been 1 of our 5 best players this series but he needs to finish on more of his chances. The power play has become a complete disaster. WTF - it takes momentum away from us and fires up the other team.
bottom line is in order to be successful this time of year, your best players need to be your best players. period!!!! nash, stepan, cally, zuccs girardi, mcdonagh and richards have not done enough. not even close. yeah, lunqvist has been great but holtby has been too. if everyone wants to blame the system as the reason why we hit posts and crossbars and shoot wide so be it. through 2 games, the only guys that have truly played their A games are stralman, powe, asham, eminger and moore. everyone else needs to find theirs real quick or the season will be over. i think the D as a whole has been fine not great not terrible. lastly, outside of cally, we dont hit enough. ovechkin should be getting hit every single shift! thats playoff hockey. washington makes it a point to hit nash, cally, girardi and mcdonagh every time they touch the puck. boyle and dorsett did some of that in game 2 but we need more of it from them and everyone else. boy do we miss clowe.

@chrisD geeezzz u guys are nuts. we are coming home for 2 games. lets win game 3 and take it from there...come on!!!!
@Josh6 i disagree with you. if healthy, clowe is a top 6 fwd that brings an element of toughness that this team needed. you have players that are in their prime - hank, nash, girardi, callahan - forget the 2nd round picks. this core would be way passed their prime by the time a 2nd round pick is ready. it was worth a shot. unfortunately he got hurt. hopefully he comes back for game 3.
