Awesome, can't wait to watch him play. I really like every quote that I've read from him, sounds like he has a really good attitude.
I wouldn't be surprised if Cassel has a stellar year. But history does repeat itself, and if that holds true he will have another terrible year following this year. This year alone won't silence most critics, myself included. If he can pull off good years back to back, then more people will start to believe. The up and down roller coaster he tends to have does nothing but sets the chiefs back. If the chiefs really want to have consistent success, I just don't believe Cassel is the QB to fill that role.
Well of course Daboll is going to say this about his QB. Not really shocking to me or a guage to measure how good Cassel is.
Cassel is going into this year with probably the most talented team he ever has been a part of. And yes I am including the patriots in this evaluation. If Daboll can squeeze every ounce of winner out of Cassel this year then there will be many good times at Arrowhead. Can't wait to see how this all plays out.
There is the potential for a very magical season this year....I can't fraking wait.
@linc15 I understand the logic behind not breaking the bank on a QB. I'm not saying they should spend half their budget on a QB, or that there is even a better option for a QB that they could of pursued (outside of manning obviously). I love the direction the team has gone. It's one of the most exciting times to be a chiefs fan in my tenure as a chiefs fan.
I'm just not going to sit here and say Cassel is the long term answer to the chiefs QB position. Chiefs can be successful right now with a QB like Cassel.
@LyleGraversen Hmmm interesting stats there. I guess Cassel could throw the ball 5 yards to a slot man, then that slot man could use his skills to get the extra 5 yards to up the yards/reception to 10. ;)
I think it is pretty obvious Cassel is only as good as the people around him. That simple fact really exemplifies the argument that Cassel is not a difference maker. To thrive in this league you need a QB that is a difference maker. If all the play makers stay healthy this year and he puts up good numbers, it will be a fact that the chiefs don't need him to win. If he does put up good numbers and the chiefs do well, then an extremely hard decision will need to take place at QB. Consistency is key in building a dynasty, and Cassel just isn't the guy for that role.
That being said, I do believe Cassel will have good numbers on paper this year due to his supporting cast. Great QB's make average players look excellent, not the other way around. It would be shocking to see what value Wes Welker would bring to the table with a guy like Cassel throwing him the ball.
I know people are tired of hearing the same old song, but the difference maker will be at the QB position. We have one of the best WR corps in the league. If we had an elite QB our passing game would be instantly elevated to another level.
If Welker had Cassel throwing to him the past three years I guarantee no one would be talking about him.
Hmm it will be interesting to see the train wreck in action.
Can I just skip this summer straight to September? I hate all these predictions and grades and ratings and this and that. I just want to draft my fantasy team and watch my chiefs. I don't know if I've ever been this antsy for a season to start.
Oh and good article. LOL
This year is a big unknown across all divisions. This season is going to be very interesting.
Hmmm who knows what will happen. One can hope though.
Even though this draft was not sexy, im really happy with it. The trenches definately needed some work, and they look to be very serious about addressing the issue. Poe is a wild card, which I believe any draftee is to a certain point. I never heard of Wiley until they drafted him, but he looks like he could be an exciting player.
September can't come soon enough.
I really think it's disgusting how everyone at all the draft parties booed and threw a fit over this. I really feel sorry for Poe, talk about being unwelcomed. No one knows what he's going to be like, if anyone can turn him into something great Crennel can do it. Poe must be ecstatic for getting the chance to come develop under Romeo. Poe was definately not my first choice for the pick, but im excited to see what happens with him.
I honestly think Poe is going to surprise a lot of people as a Chief.
@MichaelShaw Well in college he was a nobody. The media was not saying he was a terrible player during those years. Hopefully he can channel the negativity to push him harder and he can develop into a quality NT.
Crennel must have really seen something in Poe for them to pick him. The way Crennel has developed our defense, I'll trust him with this pick.
They must know Gregg is done.
