@chrisD The only leverage Brass has is the fact we're thin down the middle... Other than that, he has no ground to stand on regarding that ridiculous contract demand.

Guess we'll see how much Brass really wants to stay with the Rangers after all of this. After making 3.2 the past few years, a jump to 5.6+ is a bit extreme imho. If he really is a team player, he'll take closer to 5m for the sake of the team going forward. If not, he'll sign the 1 year deal and likely be traded at some point.
@Gorangers0525 If Toews can get 10.5 for being a 1st line center, 5.5 for Brass as a 2nd liner center seems like market value. I understand that Toews is "elite" unlike how Brass is perceived. However, this is the current state of the NHL. What was the point of the last lockout again?
We're pretty screwed cap wise at the moment, which makes moving Staal at some point this season almost a necessity. Hopefully Skjei is ready to make the jump to the big team next season.

We didnt exactly break the bank with this signing. After Pouliot (a reclamation project) last season, I have all the faith in the world that AV will utilize Lombardi the right way. PK specialist + speed + the fact he put up pretty nice numbers in a pretty good Swiss league last season? Sign me up! To me it seems like Lombardi could be a diamond in the rough, despite his concussion history.

@Scott from SEC 224 $2.05 combined for both guys is a steal. Low risk high reward move by Nashville.

@G 5.85 per year... considering what he brings to the table I feel its fair. Good for Dubi

@GiveGartneraCup True. It would be nice to not wait until the last minute to try re-signing everyone though. Sather is like Hannibal Lecter. He plays mind games with all the FA's until he gets what he wants, while creating a hostile situation for no apparent reason.
@johnnyb3910 This is where Sather is out of touch with todays NHL. Realistically we could've signed Stralman, Pouliot, Brassard, Kreider, Zucc, and both Moores mid season, but nope not with our GM. The only pass I'll give Sather is not knowing the state of the salary cap for the 2014-15 season. Other than that, his actions are inexcusable.

For $1m I'd take my chances
Heatley signed with Anaheim. 1year 1m. Wtf is Sather doing?!
I swear if there's another lockout, we should riot as fans. Owners were bitching about giving out these kinds of contracts yet they're still doing it... a bit hypocritical, no?

Anything less than $1.5M for J Moore is a win for us in my opinion.

Hopefully these negotiations will be done before arbitration hearings. I for one am tired of Sather playing hard ball with players who have proven themselves in NY while quickly writing blank check contracts to big name players outside the organization.

I'm hoping we can sign zucc and brass for around 3.9-4.4 each, kreider ~3, j moore ~2 and we're in decent shape. Hopefully our prospects will impress AV in camp, and we'll go from there. The turnover between last year's team and this one was inevitable; however, Sather has been able to keep enough of the team in tact thus far. 82 game season + playoffs leaves a lot of time for gelling and growth, so I'm not particularly worried at this point.

Wish Lundqvist and Girardi had zucc's mentality in negotiations. Zucc definitely deserves a letter this season.

Hopefully Beuk can teach this kid to use his side in Hartford

With the likely significant roster changes, I'd expect the team to start much like they did last season, as the new guys will have growing pains with AV's system. I've mentioned this before, but getting a player like Mason Raymond, who is familiar with AV's system from his time in VAN could help if the price is right. JT Miller will likely get every opportunity possible to be a starter, unless his attitude is a detriment to the team. Out of our other prospects, the only ones who really intrigue me are Duclair and Skjei. McIlrath will most likely be given the opportunity to be a 6th/7th dman but other than that our prospect pool does not impress me. With Sather being Sather, I'd expect a trade or two involving our prospects this summer which I'm actually on board with. Draft tonight, FA 4 days from now. Get ready for what should be an interesting summer...

The long term demand is a deal breaker. If Sather wasn't the gm.players might take home town discounts to stay on Broadway. However, with Sathers track record of just shelling out money on irresponsible contracts, that's why players do what pouliot, cally and stralman did/ are doing.
Pouliot was arguably our most physical forward other than kreider. With the possibility of losing Boyle we cannot afford to lose size. Like Kevin said, 3years at 2.5 per is fair to both pouliot and the team.
Good for Callahan. I personally won't do it, but I'm wondering if he gets boo'd at MSG for taking the money over staying loyal to the organization that he grew up with. Thanks for the memories Cally, and thanks for getting us MSL!
At $1m or less Sather would be stupid not to bring carcillo back. Depth is why we got so far this season, and injuries are inevitable during the course of an 82 game season.
I'd also like to see carbomb flip off more Philly fans. Just saying...
Another awesome video (As if we would expect anything less).
Seeing the Martinez goal and Hank laying there still stings... Above and Beyond in 2014-15!

Forgot to write that in my post. I know Eklund isn't too reliable.

Sorry to get off topic but according to Eklund, stl and njd are serious contenders for Callahan. If he signs with nj that would be a huge spit in the face of all rangers fans.
If it comes down to Boyle or D Moore, I'm choosing Moore 10/10 times.

Hopefully Sather will finally learn his lesson on throwing big money/long contracts at older players with declining skill. This summer should be interesting...
Every player is expendable
Staal said he wants his contract situation settled this season, so trading him isn't the worst thing in the world, especially if we get a nice return. I honestly feel Stralman covered up a lot of mistakes that Staal made, so finding a new partner whether it be in house or through fa is definitely possible.
@kevin11 Stastny is really close to re-signing with the av's. No way he makes it to UFA on July 1.
$6.6m for a 3rd/4th liner doesn't work. Richards has been a class act, but does not deserve the money this contract pays him. After the let down following the 2012 season, I'm hoping Sather is able to keep the majority of this team together. We're realistically looking at around $36m in cap space to re-sign a bunch of players. I could easily see Boyle and D Moore taking a discount to stay on this team. Stralman is iffy, but re-signing Zucc, Brass, Pouliot and Kreider is a must. Outside of the organization I'd like Sather pursue Moulson, Iginla, Mason Raymond (knows av's system). On defense I'd like a bruiser like Clayton Stoner who is also a UFA.
I'm still in disbelief our season is over, but thankfully we only have 3.5 months until hockey season is back! Compliance buyouts start tomorrow, Draft is next week, FA starts 7/1. Before we know it the boys will be back on the ice and we get to start this whole grueling process all over again. In the words of Bart Scott "CANT WAIT!" We almost made it to the top of the mountain when everyone doubted us this season. I'm looking forward to proving all the doubters wrong again next season. Happy Fathers Day to all the fathers out there! LETS GO RANGERS!
@GregQuinn One under the radar player we should take a look at is Mason Raymond. He put up a decent amount of points for the Leafs this year, and he already knows AV's system from his time in VAN. Think he got around $1M this year from TOR. If we could sign him for something similar, sign me up!
@IhateGaborik Moulson or Iginla would be nice. Both have proven they can play in hockey markets, so thats already a step in the right direction.
I've been particularly hard on Nash but to solely blame him for our loss in the scf is asinine. It's a team game, and other players could've been difference makers too. Right now things suck, and it'll take a while for all wounds to heal but this team is headed in the right direction. Forcing ot in most games this series is more than respectable. Bounces could've easily gone our way, but unfortunately they did not. I for one could not be more proud of this team and how far they've come since October.

Great season overall. Couldn't be more proud to be a New York Rangers fan. I still don't know if I can say LA was the definitively better team in this series, we put up one hell of a fight.
I know refs will always be there in every sport; however, it's a damn shame that their inconsistent calls decided games in this series. This definitely needs to be addressed in the off season.
Losing in the scf is disheartening, but it will make the guys mentally stronger and hungrier going into next season. As always, it's been a roller coaster ride of emotion, but again I could not be more proud of this team. Lastly, LETS GO RANGERS!
I especially feel bad for hank. Hung out to dry again. Was just saying to my buddy, Klein has been solid but it's ironic the guy we got for mdz had the gaffe to end our season. Proud of these guys either way. It sucks right now, but have to say this season was a success.
1 month, 2 weeks ago on Conversation @ http://nyrangersblog.com/2014-articles/rangers-kings-game-5.html
I know it's just a game, but this is a very empty feeling. I can't even imagine what the players are feeling right now.
Proud of their effort all season and all series long. 4-1 doesn't tell the true story. Let's Go Rangers!
I'd argue that as professionals they should be able to get through it. However, the human emotion part definitely plays a significant role in the decision.
@NYRfanInNC Best Friday the 13th for us would be Richards scratched, Miller/Carcillo in, and we force a game 6 back at MSG. There are enough vocal leaders on this team to help mitigate the loss of Brad's voice in the locker room.
@NYRfanInNC @ATCRyan @Medvjed004 As long as we're not talking about any of the other 29 NHL teams in a positive light I think we're good.
@NYRfanInNC @ATCRyan @Medvjed004 Haha those 2 are low on my list as well... I should've tried going to South Africa or Germany.
@Medvjed004 @NYRfanInNC Its a double edged sword. If we beat Brazil, Croatia would've gotten the points for group play. On the other hand, I have no doubt in my mind they would've been attacked on their way back to wherever they're staying. Going to a World Cup is definitely a dream of mine, but Brazil is one of the last places I'd go to see soccer on the biggest stage.
Hopefully this is a good omen
@Medvjed004 Robbery doesn't do that call justice. I'm half Croatian too, I was flipping out! That call alone almost made me not want to watch the World Cup anymore. Have a feeling the Rangers will not disappoint tonight. LGR!
Finishing every check and strong forecheck, clearing the puck up the boards and taking Richards off the PP are keys to success for tonight
Slowly starting to think Girardi isn't the top pair dman we thought he was. His grit is a big part of what makes him successful, but his speed (or lack there of) is a killer. Could he possibly be hurt? Thats the only excuse I could make for the guy at this point. He looks similar to McDonagh when he came back from the shoulder injury. Questionable decision making and getting caught out of position. He's had a rough/abysmal SCF thus far. I know Ulf was talking about playing the guys who are standing out more and cutting others ice time last night. This has to be a serious consideration for Girardi going forward in this series. His gaffes have been costly, and last thing I want is a G mistake costing us a game this late in the season.
