Callahan has been the model Ranger since he stuck in the league. If he goes to a team with scoring, he'll be an amazing add for a playoff push. They need to split the difference. 6 years will secure him till he's 35. $5.5M per year (average) with a bonus of $250,000 for 30 goals and $250,000 for winning the Selke, that is in place for all 6 years.

He's gritty, tough and is the best 3rd line PKer in the NHL. He reminds me of the 3rd line "stars" the Red Wings had back in their hay day. He needs to stay and both sides need to learn to compromise. Maybe that's why you don't wait till January to hold meaningful negotiations on a contract extension Glen.

More than any other position, choosing an Olympic goalie really depends on the first half of the NHL season. Going into the 2009-10 season, Tim Thomas was coming off a Vezina trophy and was the clear favorite to be the starter in the Olympics. Ryan Miller was fantastic in the first half and as we know he became the starter. At the end of the day, the starter in Sochi will be the goalie with the best first half. If two goalies are having near identical seasons, then you rely on previous statistics.

Maybe someone can answer this. Did the NHL sign an exclusive contract with NBC? Can they give ESPN or RS1 a double header one night a week? Kinda how the NBA is on TNT and ESPN or MLB is on TBS and FOX.

Something like this may never happen again. It is the modern day equivalent of Brazil becoming our biggest international threat and then defeating them in route to a World Cup victory. Maybe one day the US can upset Brazil but that would only be a sports story. This was just an amazing confluence of events.

I didn't want to say it in the first week but the Miracle call shouldn't have even been in this. I think even if you don't know the difference between a clothes line and blue line (see what I did there) you can agree it is the best call in the history of American sports. It should have just been declared the champ, and searched for second place, which is "down goes Frasier"

I just realized there may be more to come because missing the Bill Buckner call is ridiculous. Little roller up along first, behind the bag, it gets through Buckner, Knight rounding third and the Mets win it.

You think it's expensive now. Just wait till they have to build a whole other arena in 10-15 years. Can you say $150 blue seats?

@KevinDeLury @calithirteen I find that if your a good employee at a company and the CEO knows who you are and comes to you and asks you if you'd like to apply for a job your under qualified for, you stay no matter what, because it shows, they have faith in you and soon enough you'll get something better. Seriously what is wrong with the NHL?? Who hires people with no experience? You need 3 years of "experience" just to get an entry level position at a company (crazy confusing) but sports leagues just offer their highest positions to ex players who have ZERO experience bypassing others who have good track records. I only get it from a marketing point but if you want to win, it makes no sense.

@Josh6 you're slowly losing your mind. Trading DZ for Buff is like trading DZ for a bag of pucks in the long term. Buff is FAT as hell. Not huge like Lucic. Fat like... put the fork down and go for a bike ride you fat ass.

Most Rangers fans I spoke with and most pundits thought Torts would be given another year to try and right the ship. Even those who wanted him gone, expected Torts to be be behind the bench next year with a short leash. Whether they agreed with the move or not, most Rangers fans I know were shocked when Torts got fired.

We need to stop looking at how many cups a coach has won as standard for hiring a person. # of cups Dan Bylsma had before he took the Pens job. Zero. # of cups Claude Julien had before he took the Bruins job. Zero. # of cups Darryl Suter had before he took the Kings job. Zero. # of cups Joel Quenville had before Blackhawks job. ZERO. You take the best coach possible and he'll win the Stanley Cup for your team. Did Keenan have a cup. NO. In fact his Blackhawks team choked in 92 but he still won a cup with the Rangers.

I don't get it. I love football and hate basketball but it boggles my mind how people would rather watch people talk about football than actually watch people play an actual sport. I'm starting to understand how Nascar and golf are more popular than hockey and soccer.
