If Mills remains with the Spurs he might gice Joseph a run for the backup PG spot. I've heard some rumors that he might be headed to the 76'ers to be Brown's PG on a trade deal.

I would rather see a sign and trade deal for Blair. Take anything the Spurs can get in return and see if  whoever we get can make the roster in training camp, put another player in Austin for later, or take the rights to another Euro stash for later. Don't know if there is anything like these choices available or not!

I don't see Nando as a starting PG, SG or 6th man. Maybe not even the best second unit guy. I also don't see Baynes as the replacement for a retiring Timmy in a couple of years. We've got Splitter but still need a dominant big on the other side. If a proven center (maybe a backup from another team) can be obtained with a sign and trade for Blair and using Nando (and/or), Baynes as sweeteners...I'd pull the trigger on it...but the Spurs have yet to hire me into a decision making position and I doubt they will!

Role players who can atleast hold a lead or not allow the opponent to make their own big run are needed. Even when other teams went "small", we were still smaller. Blair (I know he's leaving) just too small, Splitter's euro style of offense and complete lack of defense, I believe, hurt us. McGrady didn't even get a shot. Bonner showed a little improvement on defense and in rebounding, but got limited minutes. Neal is a streaky shooter but plays no defense. Mills injury kept him out in the latter games. Green and Manu  had a tendency to try to help on defense and left their man too often.

For my money (which doesn't mean anything), we could use Neal and Bonner in a trade scenario. If the plan is to make Joseph the backup PG then maybe Mills could go in a trade also. Baynes shows a lot in summer league play (like Leonard did) or perhaps he goes too.

Rebuilding is going to happen sooner or later...why not do it with TD and TP still around. Manu retires as a Spur...plays limited minutes...but serves as a mentor for whoever we pick up. Not looking for a "superstar"...just some decent all around talent that is not completely "one dimensionsal".

I know I'm dreaming and I know a lot of folks will disagree...keep in mine - these are my opinions only and I don't expect the front office to call me anytime soon!

1 year, 5 months ago on A Step Forward or Same Story?

Reply

Blair leaves. McGrady retires. Baynes plays summer league and gets better like Leonard did. Somebody offers Splitter money and he leaves or goes back to eoroleague. Neal leaves for more money. Manu takes less money and remains a Spur (primarily as a mentor). Diaw and Mills hang around although Mills might be included in a deal. Bonner makes up part of a deal in a trade. DeColo also goes in a trade because he wants more playing time. Joseph becomes "the" backup PG. Green spends his summer working on his ballhandling and passing skills. Duncan returns. Leonard's team option gets picked up without question. Overseas stashes all show up for summer league play with the knowledge that they can all be signed or traded...how they do decides the question. Spurs move up in the draft  by some of the trades mentioned earlier. Just my guesses...last time I checked the FO was not asking for my advice! The only thing I know for sure id that I have been a Spurs fan since the franchise arrived in SA and I remain a Spurs fan!

1 year, 6 months ago on A look at the Spurs salary situation heading into next season

Splitter throws the ball into the backcourt on the opening tip! I think his head was not in the game but obviously up his you know what. I keep reading articles about how he will demand more money and that the Spurs will have to pay him. I'm not sure he's worth paying more. He lacks court vision...his up and under move worked well in the Euro league but NBA defenders figured it out quickly. He can pass but I don't think he is an "all-around" center that the Spurs need. There just might be better alternatives!

@UsernameAlvin  I'm not denying that Manu was the "story". I completely agree with that. Neither am I just pointing out his flaws. In my opinion he is just going through what all atheletes go through after they have played as much as he has. He has been great at every level and I certainly don't want those times to be overlooked. He will be in the Hall of Fame in the future. I have been a Spur fan since day one when they moved the franchise down from Dallas. I enjoyed the "nosebleed" seats in the HemisFair arena.

1 year, 6 months ago on Manu no longer the threat he used to be

Reply

Manu has always has a tendency to dribble into a double-team and lose the ball, make a stupid pass, and shoot way too early in the shot clock.  None of these things have changed and I doubt they will. He has lost a step and I believe that's to be expected. Does that mean I want him gone...NO! I believe he can still contribute. If the opponents leave him unguarded he can still help as long as he plays smarter and remains a Spur as a mentor to younger players as I believe he has a good basketball IQ. He might just surprise everyone with a "throwback" performance when its needed the most!

@Gospurs2013 @TomArmstrong Are you saying that would be a bad idea or are you saying the refs won't call the fouls?

1 year, 7 months ago on Spurs, Warriors back to square one

Shooting percentages aside. I don't like the physicality the Spurs are playing with. Baynes,Blair,Mills,Joseph,T-Mac,Bonner = 36 fouls. Beat them up...contest all shots to the max...if they get free throws so be it but make them earn everything. Use Mills and Joseph to provide full cout pressure almost from the start. GS plays worse when you worry them!

1 year, 7 months ago on Spurs, Warriors back to square one

Reply

I think a few minutes letting De Colo knock Curry or Thompson around. Just good clean hard fouls. A couple of free throws  is better than let them rain down 3's. Timmy and Tiago in the paint should get some points and get their bigs in foul trouble. Let Blair and Baynes use their 6 fouls on anybody that drives the lane. Knock everybody around some. Make them think about it. Right now their not worried. To quote Pop from last year..."I need a little nasty". Use Joseph and Mills a little and apply full court pressure. Let Diaw throw his weight around. If the refs are going to call fouls anyway...make them count!

Well, I thought I'd see some interesting conversations on here about the next round but for the most part I see a bunch of rhetoric about the last round. Ugly is the only word that comes to mind about this game. Timmy wanted to win but the rest just showed up. Tiago needs to attack the basket and forget his european up and under, baby hook stuff...Bonner cannot play defense (Jamison was his man)...Neal seems to have lost his shot...nobody goes to the boards for oofensive rebounds....teams have figured out how to stop TP's penetration. Manu and Diaw not back...Jack gone....Blair gets minutes ...Baynes doesn't play...Mills doesn't play. The future in the palyoffs will tell if there is any heart left! I'm hoping there is...Go Spurs Go!

Face it folks...None of us are in the FO, none of us are considered a part of the "brain-trust" and none of us will get a call from Pop asking our opinion! I have to agree about te injury/health issues facing LA. Nash and Howard have bad backs Bryant has had some leg/ankle issues. I am still in favor of the Spurs adding a big!
