Why, why , why who is this dude can he hoop 2yr deal for wht. Insert baynes into the rotation does this mean no shot at Gregg Oden, why not take this money their giving this bum and sign Ryan Richards.
Why? He won't come to San AAntonio face it 95% of players in the league just want to get paid nobody wants to win anymore. Any free agent that pass on the spurs are stupid in my opinion, they know coming here they'll have to take a pay cut and they won't do it. Look at Dwight Howard of all the teams looking to sign he has the best chance of winning with the Spurs, if he really wants to win sign here. These owners giving out these big contracts has messed the game up. So forget Martin he doesn't fit anyway focus on our overseas prospects (Hanga, Richards) and just develop baynes into that physical bruiser to bring the toughness that is needed.
1 year ago on Free Agency: Spurs have interest in Kenyon Martin
Spurs should try their best to buy this guy out next year he can definitely be Ginobili replacement when he retires. Also get Ryan Richards here as well hopefully he'll make the team & go to the D-league Duncan can school Richards Manu school Hanga pair them up with Kwahi and the future is intact. Find another quick penetrating guard like TP and we set, I don't like how the spurs get overseas players and wait until their almost thirty before they come over bring in these young guy's to learn from our vets.

Manu this Manu that he's done don't bring him back he needs to retire, I'm sick of hearing it Ginobili not going anywhere when is the last time anyone has heard of the spurs not taking care of their star players NEVER!!!!!! Ginobili has helped bring three championships to San Antonio so don't throw him under the bus. Basically the problem was him playing the back up point guard roll and not his normal position were he could just play his game, spurs me too continue
1 year, 1 month ago on A look at the Spurs salary situation heading into next season
@JasonRodriguez @ZILLA My point is if your player or team is struggling you have to roll with them during the good and bad. The only way for him to get out of it is to play through it Manu is part of the big 3 he's not going anywhere.
1 year, 1 month ago on Spurs face serious questions about Manu's minutes
It's funny how a guy struggles and now everyone wants to be done with him, I didn't hear anyone saying this garbage when he hit the game winner against Golden State or against the Grizzlies he played well. Obviously some don't understand basketball every player has a patch of where they struggle, just a couple of years ago you heard the same thing about Tony Parker when he struggled against Memphis in 2011and his play was sub-par in the regular season but look at him now balling out MVP style. Is manu the same as he was 10years ago of course not but who is Tim Duncan had struggles a few years back as well its just how the game goes, you play long enough its going to happen. Manu comes out these next three games and plays well nobody will be talking that garbage I thought he played good in game one, but hell everyone turned the ball over in game two, the media is good at building a player up then rip him apart when he struggles.
Any chance he plays for the Toros next year

Any update on Ryan Richards
How can you say Richards is a bust and nobody has seen him preform in a Spurs uniform, just youtube highlights. Under the right guidance which the Spurs can provide he could be an important piece to their future. Obviously there's something they see in him or they wouldn't have drafted him.
1 year, 3 months ago on Spurs scouting Pitt big man Steven Adams?
I say draft a 5 then a small foward as far as a inside out player that's what Ryan Richards is for get him over here and let Tim Duncan teach him the game. That Adam Hanga dude can be Emanuel's replacement when he retires, but Baynes,Splitter, Duncan are their only true bigs Spurs have enough overseas prospects and a good drafting eye but Ryan Richards is a must in my opinion.
@TrueSpursFan @rtesoro440 The Spurs have won with players with less physicality, but also Tim Duncan was 10yrs younger and could shut down the paint by himself. After David Robinson retirement the Spurs haven't had a elite center ( Rasho, Francisco, Nazr, Fabrico) were just role players and played well in their system, playing next to Duncan the average big looks better than they are. When those four bigs left the Spurs they didn't/haven't performed well since then, so O'Neal / Mozgov couldn't do any worse than those guys.Your also right a trade would have to happen I don't think O'Neal or Mozgov have expensive contracts. Thanks for the basketball commentary appreciate it.
1 year, 6 months ago on Pop trying to mold Leonard into Bowen like defender
@TrueSpursFan @rtesoro440 I understand/agree with both y'all points and or concerns you can never count the Spurs out they have proven it over the years, and they are improving this year. But let's be honest they could use a veteran big to help the frontcourt out, don't get me wrong the bigs are playing beautiful basketball especially Tiago if they could add a guy like Jermaine O'Neal or Timofey Mozgov along with Tim/Tiago to bring that defensive physicality would definitely help. With Kawhi and Danny improving on both sides of the ball it could be lock down city.Spurs need to bring Bruce Bowen on the coaching staff to help those guys out defensively.
And that's the bottom line cause " THE ZILLA SAID SO"
1 year, 7 months ago on Video: ESPN reporting no punishment for Spurs
First off I don't understand why David Stern is so upset about a team that he or the other big wigs of the NBA don't promote anyway. You have a hall of fame coach three future hall of fame players & one of wich is the best power forward in NBA history, 4 championships & most importantly you don't hear about the Spurs with any drama on or off the court bringing any kind of discredit to the their organization or the league. So basically if the Spurs did this against Orlando or the Bobcats they wouldn't have been fined only because it was against the heat on national TV. I wonder if the Kings play the Raptors and they sat Evans, Cousins & Bargnani, DeRozan would the get fined.
Whats up with Ryan Richards is Gregg Oden still out there.
1 year, 9 months ago on Preseason Rundown: Spurs fall in Heat fourth quarter rally
Green and Kawhi can be on hell of a defensive duo
With this team he won't have to do a bunch of scoring, just play solid defense and rebound be a force in middle. He's young big & tall (7'0) so in my opinion he can't do any worse than all the other centers after David Robinson and they worked very well in the spurs system. If they sign him, maybe they should go after Darko as well just for insurance purposes, maybe if they move Bonner and Blair get Ryan Richards to be that stretch four...... What's going on with RR anyway?
1 year, 10 months ago on Report: Spurs set to work out center Kyrylo Fesenko
I say Gregg Oden bring him along slowly so he can adjust to the playing basketball again. In the meantime go after Darko or that Brazilian center, one of those guys paired with Oden & Duncan,Splitter could be a decent front line don't know if that could happen but from what I've read they could come cheap.
1 year, 10 months ago on Blatche rumors won't die
What happen to the idea of the Brazilian center? Spurs should go back to third old school style of play "DEFENSE FIRST" that's what won them CHAMPIONSHIPS they really need some help defensively. Think about it if the Spurs were the defensive team of old OKC wouldn't have stood a chance this uptempo style is exciting and that's the way the NBA is going but the Spurs really aren't built that way. You have Tiago Splitter who will improve defensively but you need more size Ryan Richards could be a nice piece to build around he and Kwahi can be the future Richards as the offensive tools just improve defensively. I hear his game being compared to Lamar Odom/ Chris Bosh but in my opinion he can be more like an Derrick Coleman of course he'll have step his level of competition up those YouTube clip are against less talented players hope he make it to the Toro's. But the key to get back on the championship road is athletic bigs and interior defensive.

2 years ago on Report: Spurs interested in Brazilian center Hettsheimeir | July
This is just my opinion, hopefully it comes true first thing is to address the lack of size maybe they go after Javale Mcgee 7 feet tall can run the floor and great defensively and can rebound. Second bring over De Colo,Hanga,Richards let them develop in the D-league with Joseph they could be the future of this organization. Third maybe seriously look at Blair,Bonner as trade options love the hustle and shooting they bring to the team but spurs need some athleticism hopefully Duncan doesn't sign for that much and some of these things can happen. Could you imagine the future starting 5 of Joseph (would love to have G.Hill back as well) Green, Leonard , Richards, Mcgee, De Colo , Splitter, Hanga off the bench. The spurs know what their doing they seem to always make the right moves.....(Dwight Howard 2013? just throwing it out there.)

What's up with Ryan Richards? That's what they need a young raw athletic big that's hungry and wants to show what he has. I've been watching clips of him online of course all you see is good highlights but just get him over here so he can learn how to be a true SPUR ,sometimes the front office upsets me waiting to bring these guys over they end up being in their late 20's or early 30's we don't want another Scola situation .
Dragic,Hill,Crawford maybe Rudy
2 years, 1 month ago on Free agents that might fit with Spurs (Part 1) | June
Javale Mcgee, Chris Kaman, Nicholas Batum and possibility Ryan Richards, I'm sick of hearing that he's too young to raw that's just what the spurs need a young raw beast out there with his outside game, have Tim Duncan show him about the post he could cause a mismatch fit for defenders. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying he'll be a savior but get him over here and see what he got Bonner,Blair,Anderson, may be out of there. Mcgee would be perfect, young can run the floor and plays great defense Spurs need their old style of play back multiple bigs controlling the paint and lock down wing players. But the players I just named could be key addition I also like the idea of Dragic.
2 years, 1 month ago on What areas of Spurs' roster need improvement? | June
De Colo coming over would be great but i think he should be used @ the two, Mills is a decent backup PG. But more important is addressing the lack of size Spurs need to go back to their old style of play having multiple bigs to control the paint and great wing defenders Green ,Leonard or even if they get Batum would have the wing on lock,Javale Mcgee would be perfect, young athletic and with the Spurs system he could be dominant force on defense. The key is really getting Ryan Richards over here so he can develop in the spurs system not saying he'll be a saviour but atleast you get the ball rolling.Mcgee,Kaman,Batum & possibly Ryan Richards would be key additions.

@CraigThomas OKC killing the Lakers right now,but seriously Kobe,Manu,Parker come on man that's trouble for anybody in the league
@JohnAbney @ZILLA McGee would for sure help on the defensive end.
Despite what people say about Kobe ,and yes some of his comments are crazy HE'S A BEAST!!!!!!!!!!! I'm willing to bet everybody in San Antonio would love to have Kobe on the Spurs.
@ JEFF GARCIA Do you think these players could help the the Spurs next year and is it a possibility to sign any of these players. Jason Thompson,JaVale McGee,Chris Kaman,
Nic Batum,George Hill. Javale McGee would be key and bring Hill back
You have to also remember that De Colo can play SG as well which he might end up playing. At some time they're going to have look at a replacement for Ginobili, Manu may only have a few years left before he retires Nando could be that guy, especially if they don't keep James Anderson. The worst that could or should happen is him going to the Toro's and playing along side Cory Joseph,I think Joseph will turn out pretty good he's only 19-20 yrs old so he has a lot to learn TP can definitely help with that .But know one has mentioned anything about Ryan Richards,he and De Colo need to be on the summer league team and the Toro's imagine Joseph,De Colo,Richards in Austin the future of the spurs.

Plain and simple that was a dirty foul, you can't run your shoulder into a player on a fast break or anytime for that matter. If that was Tim Duncan everybody in San Antonio would want Smith dead, fouls like that can cause serious injury.

@JeffProjectSpurs The Spurs need to stop talking about De Colo,Ryan Richards and just get them over here what are they going to do wait until they're both are in their late 20's or early 30's.You gotta give De Colo a chance to learn from Tony and Emanuel also for Richards to learn from Duncan what I've seen of Richards looks like he has a good outside game but no post, Duncan can teach him what the post is all about. as for De Colo Tony and Emanuel can show him how to succeed in the Spurs offense, getting to the lane and using the pick and roll game effectively.I just don't want them to have another Luis Scola situation on their hands, at least get them in the D-league.Now with this Chris Kaman trade talk can't the Spurs just give up a second round pick and the rights to Loberk,Bertans?

Seriously was Steve Novak really what the spurs needed,No he wasn't they have enough shooters plus who was he going to defend what rebounds, block shots was he going to get. They need a real big I think people have a misconception of the game of basketball because of players like LBJ,D-WADE,KOBE,ANTHONY,DURANT these guards and small forwards make the game exciting because of their athleticism but it's still a big mans game you need bigs to win plain and simple.Name one team in the last 10-15yrs(you can say the last 20-30 for that matter) that didn't have a big man in the middle the Mavs are a perfect example Tyson Chandler won the championship for them not Dirk, Spurs need to focus on getting a big, is Kris Humpries still available?not saying he'll save them but he can bring some rebounding and toughness in the paint. I've been screaming this since last year and the year before that get some big fellas on the team A.S.A.P!!!!!!!!!!!!!! if not they will be in the same situation they were in last year getting put out the first round of the playoffs. With this current roster the Spurs aren't in position to win a title this year or any other year.I don't understand why they didn't / don't address the lack of bigs issue RJ is not the problem in my opinion he's just an scapegoat, you only have two bigs Tim&Tiago Bonner not a true big nor is blair why not go after Dalmbert,Pryzbilla or even Cousins from the D-league team. A quality big that can help out defensively and rebound, is Troy Murphy still out there I've been a loyal fan since "87" and really hope they do pull it off this year but being realistic and true fan of basketball compared to the other elite teams in the NBA they don't match up well. Memphis exposed their lack of size.

I hope they sign a good small forward they shouldn't make a move on RJ until they know a guy is going to sign.Honestly most of these guys their looking at want more money some of these player in the NBA just want to get paid and with San Antonio not being a major market it's kinda hard to sign those players.
@shawnthefreak@pete182 Kaman all the way you need bigs to win.
2 years, 7 months ago on Report: Spurs to use amnesty on Richard Jefferson | December
@isaacd35 That's my point RJ is not just a corner three point shooter he could have been put in more post ups on smaller players at his position and isolation plays from mid range, a guy with that athletic ability you have to use every bit of it and the entire team struggled against Memphis in the playoffs.Trying to make RJ just a shooter is like asking Matt Bonner to play point guard.
@RG8907 Your right defense is the key but you need a big that can protect the rim along with those defensive small forwards. That's what made Bruce Bowen so good he was an excellent individual defender, what made him really good was having Tim and David back there and all the others centers paired with Duncan.
What about Wilson Chandler,Jason Thompson,Andrew Bogut just throwing names out there. I do like the Josh Howard idea.
I think people are using RJ as a scapegoat, yes he didn't have a great playoff but nobody on the team did the real issue is the need for a big NENE,KAMAN,CHANDLER you need a big that can control the paint offensively and defensively and Duncan needs as much help as possible. With this amnesty rule I haven't heard Matt Bonner name in this he's a great shooter but the spurs need more from their bigs a Robert Horry type big that can can shoot and play defense.I've said this all last year just like RJ had to adjust to the spurs system the spurs should've adjusted to his ability as well you can't take an athlete like RJ and make him a corner three point shooter, that's why he didn't do well with the spurs in my opinion. But what in the world is going on with Ryan Richards,Nano De Colo why do the spurs draft these players and wait until their almost 30plus to bring them over, at least get them in the D-league.
Spurs should really look into getting G.Hill back next season if the pacers don't extend his contract trading Hill is a big loss more than some people may realize.I understand that Kawhi Leonard has crazy potential and athleticism but hill did some great things for the Spurs plus TP won't be around forever he'll get a little older and slower like every NBA player does.Maybe they should just sign some bum to a one year deal or bring up a guy from the Toros or or option3 Tracy Mcgrady he played well for the pistons at point guard for a stretch here and there Cory Joseph may not be ready to step in the role so quickly. With the way this team is currently built personally i don't see them winning a championship but the real deal is bigs I've been screaming that all year long and we saw what happen,I would without a doubt give up Bonner quick the verdict is still out on Blair whatever happens get some quality bigs that can help offensively and defensively a decent backup point guard and really, really look into getting G.Hill back.

Spurs should sign Ryan Richards get Cousins from the Toro's for cheap and maybe Lopez from the Suns or Deandre Jordan,Chris Kaman either way they need at least 2-3 bigs. In my opinion Richards could play the 3 or 4 spot with his ability to handle the ball and play the wing.
I think the spurs haven't done so well in preparing players for the future they have a D-league now so in my opinion that is a perfect place to develop players. They do a great job drafting players but then their stashed oversea's for years you don't want to have a Luis Scola situation again if some of these players were to play for the toro's they learn the system understand what is expected of them, a few call ups through out the year to get a taste of the NBA life so they'll be prepared for future use.Really the Spurs should have been looking for a Tim Duncan replacement back in 2005 but hopefully "DOUBLE R" (Ryan Richards) will at least join the toro's, Anderson i could see starting along with Tiago they still need some more bigs and a good back up veteran point guard (Jose Calderon) Joesph may not be ready to be a full time back up. All in all the Spurs look good for the future Leonard,Anderson,Splitter sound promising and let's hope Spurs can get G.Hill back, it has to be some financial reason why these overseas players take so long to come over. What's up with Nando De Colo

This whole thing about Tony Parker is ridiculous I mean seriously Spurs fans the guy has a few bad games in the playoffs a couple of bad choices through out his career and now he is hated that has to be the dumbest thing I ever heard of.Just a few years ago he was the best Spur ever MVP of the finals "07" starting to come around and be the point guard everybody wanted him to be,but now things aren't in his favor he get's no love sound like to me that there are a lot of FAIR WEATHER SPURS FANS out there. Some people take this being a fan thing to seriously TP doesn't owe any Spurs fan a thing his job is to play basketball to his best ability through out a player's career your going to have bad games for a stretch or too or even a season Tim Duncan and Emanuel Ginobili have had bad games and some what off seasons I don't see anyone jumping down there throat. What people need to realize is that Tony Parker is a human being first basketball player second and who really cares what he does in his private life if it's a divorce or a cartoon so what that's his business, what he does isn't not going to effect anyone's life as long as he gives his all on the court that's all that matters. Bottom line if this is your team your players you roll with them to the end period I've been a loyal fan since "1987" do I agree with everything the Spurs do of course not but I'll ride with them to the end. I think I might be one of loyal fans on this site and I don't even live in San Antonio or Texas for that matter.

All this trade talk about GH,TP,RJ is garbage no way i'll trade those guys.

Seriously I'm not doubting DG but come on over RJ? I look at it like this the days of Bruce Bowen are gone and yes RJ could be better defensively but remember Bowen had David Robinson,Tim Duncan playing behind him that made him a lot better at playing defense even after Robinson there were decent bigs with Tim. RJ is more Sean Elliott than Bowen so the spurs should use RJ like they used Elliott. But the real problem isn't RJ it's the lack of bigs and TEAM defense.

3 years, 1 month ago on Anderson Varejao on the market? | June
Who is this dude, go after Wilson Chandler,Tayshaun Prince,AK-47, spurs need to get serious and what is up with Ryan Richards. Get a couple of bigs and a wing defender.
3 years, 1 month ago on Spurs to work out former NBA player Mickael Gelabale | June
Spurs should have kept him, 6"11 young can run the floor would have been nice to see Mahinmi and Tiago together defensively.
3 years, 1 month ago on Big bro Parker applauds Mavs' Mahinmi | June
I don't think RJ is the problem it is true that he isn't a Bruce Bowen type of defender but the real issue is TEAM defense remember those championship years Bowen also had two seven foot guys behind him protecting the paint which allowed him to play aggressive defense if a player got bye Bowen they had two bigs to contend with or Bowen could force that player into those seven foot bigs. In RJ's defense i don't think the Spurs used his athletic ability correctly he is a slasher more of a 1 on 1 player put him in more isolation plays, post up,quick hitting plays to use that ability to the fullest you can't take a player like him and say your going to be a spot up corner 3point shooter RJ is more Sean Elliott than Bruce Bowen. Sean Elliott did everything well he was very solid on both sides of the ball RJ can be put in the same light i understand that he came the Spurs so he has to adjust to their systems but on the same token the Spurs should adjust to his ability as well. That's like taking Matt Bonner and making him play point guard..lol that's not what he is hes a shooter nothing else, RJ is more than just a shooter in my opinion maybe they should go after Tayshaun Prince or Wilson Chandler (who i would prefer ) think they are free agents or at least have a player option. But the reality is if they don't get 2-3 more bigs to control the paint offensively and defensively they will be in the same situation bigs and a solid wing defender and get back to playing that old style of Spurs basketball DEFENSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! first, shooting all those 3's is entertaining but it doesn't win championships.

If he can play defense and rebound pick the guy that's what they need a defensive big, along with Splitter they can develop defensively and could be shut down defenders in the paint. If they sign Ryan Richards and possibly Nano De Colo to the D-League that could be great for the future of the spurs.
Get him over here A.S.A.P!!!!!!!!!!!! let him develop in the D-League that's fine at least he'll learn the spurs system.I hear he compares his game to Lamar Odom but Duncan can show him that ALL STAR post game what about Nano De Colo is he ready
3 years, 1 month ago on Spurs actively trying to bring Ryan Richards to the team? | May
@LegacyDriver We need bigs
@LegacyDriver great point but if they could contain the paint (GASOL,.Z-BO) wouldn't have been in that situation in the first place.
@LegacyDriver I agree Parker did have a bad game but they couldn't control paint.Look at some of the spurs teams of the past when one of the big three had a bad game or they went on a scoring drought their ability to control the paint defensively won games for them.
Tony Parker didn't loose that series the lack of bigs to control the paint defensively did.
3 years, 2 months ago on Writer's Roundtable: Parker said what? | May
Tony Parker is right the Spurs are not a championship team at this point and trading him won't fix anything what the problem is, the lack of bigs and wing defenders period.I've been a loyal fan since 1987and this year was entertaining but it wasn't CHAMPIONSHIP BALL!!!!!!!! shooting all those 3's running and gunning is not the way the Spurs play ball if you look back at there championship years they had multiple bigs to control the paint offensively and defensively they always had 3point shooters but they are not a 3point shooting team they're not the Phoenix Suns.Keep the big 3 intact create more 1 on 1 plays for RJ (post ups, isolation, quick hitting plays) he's too much of an athlete to just be a corner 3ball shooter, some of those guys on the bench can go and i'm willing to bet you'll all know who i'm talking about.I hate to say this but the Dallas Mavs are playing like the Spurs did when they were winning championships and the Spurs look those garbage Mavs teams really the Spurs should have been looking for a replace for Duncan back in 2005 way before he started to decline and i mean a real post presence not a role player.I'm pretty sure TP is just frustrated after a first round loss cause i for damn sure are but SPURS let's get back to those hard nose knock'em down drag'em out days of lock down defense. GO SPURS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is what i don't understand someone correct me if i'm wrong but don't the Spurs own their D-league team (TOROS) and if so why don't they bring Nando De Colo,Ryan Richards to the Toros and let them develop in the D-league call them up a few times a year to get a taste of the NBA.From what I've seen on youtube these two players they look good (of course you only see good highlights on youtube) i know that the NBA game is different form euro ball but with the right development in the D-league they could be the Spurs future. The big 3 won't play forever could you see Hill,De Colo,Richards,Splitter being the new wave of sliver and black? Don't wait until those guy are in their late 20's to get them over here make it happen soon!!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe it's a money issue'
Everybody wants to trade RJ i don't think he is the problem i understand he came to the Spurs so he as to adjust to their style of basketball, but you can't take an athletic 1 on 1 player and force him to be a spot up/corner 3point shooter. The Spurs should adjust to his athletic ability as well put him in more post ups, isolation plays, quick hitting opportunity's to use his ability to the fullest. You can't have a player like RJ and force him to be just a shooter he's more Sean Elliot than Bruce Bowen with that being said Spurs still need help defensively on the wing Tayshaun Prince,Wilson Chandler, Anthony Parker,Jamario Moon just to name a few. Last but not least getting a big is a must Marc Gasol,Jason Thompson,Samuel Dalmbert,Robin Lopez,Greg Oden and by some miracle D12-Dwight Howard in 2012, Spurs need to go back to their old style of basketball controlling the paint offensively and defensively shooting all those 3's is entertaining but it doesn't win championships.
3 years, 2 months ago on The San Antonio Spurs Offseason Guide | May
I forgot about Marc Gasol (free agent) I think Tyson Chandler as well or even Deandre Jordan (Clippers) just a few options.
3 years, 2 months ago on Is Nene in Silver and Black more than a dream | May
Nene Hilario or Timofey Mozgov (both from Denver) would be great, two physical bigs in the paint. But there's also Robin Lopez,Jason Thompson out there as well or go for the home run with Gregg Oden,Dwight Howard don't forget we need a defensive wing Wilson Chandler,Mickael Pietrus are good fits.I believe some of the player's i just mentioned have team or player options I know it all sounds like a pipe dream but i never thought the Lakers could trade shaq to Miami or even worst the Lakers getting Pau Gasol for basically free deals can be made with keeping your core intact and some role players but i feel they need to add some more bigs with Splitter to improve it could be old Spurs basketball DEFENSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! controlling the paint offensively and defensively not shooting a bunch of 3's.
I say keep RJ he wasn't the problem, to be honest the Grizzlies made the whole Spurs team look bad with there bigs and aggressive play offensively and defensively you just have to give Memphis credit they out played the Spurs. What i think the issue is that just as much as RJ had to adjust to the Spurs system they should have adjust to his ability as well put him in more isolation, post ups, quick hitting plays where he can use his athleticism not just a corner 3point shooter he's not Bruce Bowen. He can be more of a Sean Elliot type of player Elliot did more then just shoot 3's he did a little bit of everything and did it well you can't take a athlete like RJ and just say shoot corner 3's that's like taking a shooter like Matt Bonner and saying play point guard that's not what he doe's. But the real story is no size in the middle, plain and simple size matters Spurs should go back to playing there normal style of ball they have always had 3point shooters but there not a 3point shooting team getting out in the open court running more then they ever have before is entertaining and all but it doesn't work in the playoffs don't believe me ask Steve Nash and the Phoenix Suns,Golden State Warriors teams like that don't win.All the championships the Spurs won they had bigs even after David Robinson there where decent bigs and at this point in Tim Duncan career he needs all the help in the middle he can get Splitter was a bright spot in this series looking forward to him contribute more next season. I believe Marc Gasol is a free agent that would be a nice pick up but Robin Lopez, Jason Thompson,Wilson Chandler all have an player option i think, two bigs and a defense player that's what they need or a Gregg Oden like Chris32 mentioned don't agree with trading TP. What's up with this Ryan Richards dude get him over here or to the D-league Jason Thompson (Sacramento Kings) could turn out to be a nice young big but whatever happens I've a loyal fan since "87" so I'll ride or die with the SPURS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DWIGHT HOWARD 2012? think about it.
3 years, 2 months ago on Jefferson's vanishing act | April
Does any one know whats up with Chris Kaman? is he a free agent this summer he would be a good fit with them.Spurs probably should have never let Ian Mahinmi go a young big that can run the floor and has the potential of being a solid interior defender Mahinmi and Splitter could have had the paint on lock.
3 years, 2 months ago on Livefyre conversation - http://www.projectspurs.com/2011-articles/april/spurs-weaknesses-through-series.html
Your right the bench has played like a bunch of bums George Hill and Tiago Splitter have been the only decent players off the bench.I just think the bench has no experience outside of Hill who do you have, maybe adding some vets to the bench would help like Antwan Jamison, Tracy Mcgrady, Anthony Parker, guys that have been on playoff teams and made deep runs with them. No disrespect to those guys on the bench just lacking a little experience i kinda of liked it better when Ginobili was coming off the bench he always brought that fire and energy paired with Hill that could have been dangerous you need some kind of veteran leadership off the bench. Last but not least SIZE,SIZE,SIZE don't care what anybody says it does matter and it's evident in this series.
3 years, 2 months ago on Spurs' bench hasn't been up to snuff | April
@ 24 Writer no i don't live in San Antonio i reside in Michigan, but hopefully i can catch a game out there next season.
Basically the problem is they don't have enough size, i think Z-bo is only 6'9 but he plays like he is 7feet the spurs need to add some size in the off season maybe go after Gregg Oden or sign this Ryan Richards dude. I've been saying this since the beginning of the season get some size the Spurs have always had 3point shooter's but they are not a 3point shooting team we're not the Phoenix Suns people say their age is the reason it plays a part but not the main factor, the Boston Celtics have an older team but they have 6 bigs from 6'9-7'1and they play good team defense like we use to.Another factor is RJ but not in a bad way in my opinion RJ is more then just a corner shooter he can post, shoot, drive kinda be like what Sean Elliott was back in the day maybe better, just as much as RJ had to adjust to the Spurs systems Spurs should adjust to his offense ability as well. But the main issue is lack of size and consistent defense during the four championship years they always had bigs (6'11-7'0) to control the paint offensively and defensively even after David Robinson there was decent bigs on a good note Tiago played a good game last night 10pts 9rb he should have been playing since game 1 it's a better match up with him, Matt Bonner doesn't match up well in this series Dejaun Blair need to develop a little more but i do like his energy and hustle. If they can get game 5 they can definitely force a game 7 but come the summer some moves should be made get some bigs Robin Lopez, Marcin Gortat,Roy Hibbert or even that Diop dude that played for Dallas don't know if these player's will be available but just a thought some kinda of help defensive help in the paint and some good wing defenders. What ever happen this playoffs I'll ride or die with my squad been a loyal fan since 1987 and nothing will ever change that. Dwight Howard 2012? just putting out there.
WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm sitting here watching the game and i can't believe it, is this end of the Spurs? don't go out like this please they were in the same situation in 2006 against Dallas and forced a game 7 coming back from 3-1 is going to be hard to do I think it was done in 1981. Spurs need to go back to their old style of basketball shooting all those 3's doesn't work Tim Duncan needs help in the middle, Duncan needs a Tim Duncan so he can become a David Robinson if you know what i mean he can't carry a team any more you need bigs to win they always had bigs in the middle controlling the paint offensively and defensively in their championship years. On a good note it was nice to see Tiago out there he brought energy and toughness tonight in my opinion he should have been out there since game one.It just frustrating to see this team play like this I've been a loyal fan since 1987 and i don't even live in San Antonio or Texas for that matter im not giving up just want them to play better I'll go down with the ship before turn my back on them. But some changes may have to be made (more bigs) Gregg Oden Dwight Howard in 2012 or sign this Ryan Richards kid and some solid wing defenders RJ had a better season than last year but he's more then just a corner three point shooter he can do some of the same things if not better then Sean Elliot did back in he day.But whatever happens i will ride or die with the Spurs. @ Jeff Garcia what's your thoughts.

Spurs should go back to their Championship style of ball packing the paint with bigs and good wing defenders and playing half court ball that's why Tiago should be playing to help with rebounding/defense the match ups don't favor Matt Bonner,Dejuan Blair @RG8907 do you think we should go after Gregg Oden.
3 years, 3 months ago on Aggressiveness key for Grizzlies | April
Man, i agree with you guys 100% the Spurs have this 6'11/7'0 guy on the bench that can play D and rebound why isn't he playing the match ups in this series are not in the Spurs favor they need size and defense out there.Matt Bonner doesn't really fit in this series and if Danny Green is supposed to be a good defensive player why isn't he playing Spurs need to go back to what they know having two bigs in the middle and controlling the paint. I know the days of David Robinson are over but even after him the Spurs have had decent bigs Nestrovic, Mohammed, Elson, Oberto all paired next to Duncan they got the job done so Tiago Splitter can do the same, all this shooting 3's is cool but you need bigs to win,to control the paint offensively and defensively so put Tiago in. Over the summer they need to go after Gregg Oden and any other decent big that's available bring Ryan Richards over as well need all the size they can get i hear Richards patterns his game after Lamar Odom Spurs could definitely use a player like that, does anyone know if there are any good wing defenders available this summer (Arron Afflao)

If McDyess retires they need to sign Ryan Richards, even if he doesn't they still need to sign this guy he's a big that can play inside out from what I've seen on the internet he looks like he has game. Think he needs to polish that low post game but I'm sure Tim Duncan can help with that, should the spurs go after Gregg Oden this summer you might be able to get him on the cheap. If the nets buyout Troy Murphy the spurs should sign him no question about it forget that trade talk Jefferson is playing good and Tiago is coming along i do feel he needs more playing time. But a rough defender like Murphy that can rebound and plug the paint and has some abilty to score in the post is a plus adding him the spurs match up better with the lakers or celtics.Tiago Splitter will be a very good player for them but he will NEVER!!!! be on the level of David Robinson.
