Here in Chicago, we've been running a Cat 4 A and B race for years. Each one sells out in pre reg every week, packing 100 people onto the course for each race. The Cat 5 category is welcomed because it's no longer possible for the sport to grow here without it - you just can't pack in more racers.
I think it's over the top to say that one more race is contributing to "emphasiz[ing] winning rather than the process of getting better." Anyway, that's why mandatory upgrades were included with this rule change, right?
