I think social media types overload their social feeds with pointless links. You can accomplish the same thing with a little self-discipline and asking yourself, "Would I click on this?"

Comments don't add to my vision of The Anti-Social Media. That doesn't mean that comments aren't right for other blogs. They just weren't right for me anymore.
I'm not trying to build a community. I love my regular readers. But I don't think many of them want their name associated with a blog that has a regular "F*** You! Friday" feature. Call me crazy that way.
The other issue I have is I frequently find myself defending my points to people on my own blog. Who wants to read something funny and then see people arguing about it? That's no fun and takes away from the spirit of my blog.
Every blog is different. What works for me may not work for you. And maybe I'll change my mind in a couple weeks.
But for now, I enjoy being a trendsetter. :-)

This is why it's important to build a framework of metrics that all tie back to the communications goals. Vanity metrics play a role, but you can see all of measurable factors that are tying back to larger business objectives.
I've also been known to keep a huge repository of brand engagements, so that people can see how conversations shift and what types of interactions take place and how those change over time.

I am a World of Warcraft fanatic (For the Alliance!), and one of my favorite pieces of content I saw about it was this infographic putting into context all of the people, time spent and actions taken in the game.
Howie , like Devon, I'd argue that a lot of this is how you set up the ads to begin with. Did you set up the ads in a split test on demography, geography or interests? This is a standard practice I use to make sure that I can allocate budget (and impressions) with the audiences that are most likely to respond.
Even then, you can still go in and see who responded to the ads best by using the Facebook Ads Reporting feature and do a data breakdown to see the gender and ages of people who were responding.
However, targeting is only one aspect of it. If the content of the ad isn't compelling, it doesn't matter how well you target any advertisement.

I have a whole list of goals for 2014. My favorite is to take a selfie every day in 2014. I'm also trying a 2014 exercise streak, where I exercise every day. Five days down, 360 to go.
@biggreenpen @ClayMorgan I once had the idea for "The Anti-Social Media" Tweet down. You had to avoid looking t your phone at all during the meet up, or you'd get kicked out.

@ginidietrich @JayDolan Well then. Our overall objective is sound: Position Jay Dolan as a social media thought leader. However, we'll need to shift strategy and tactics. We'll use a paid, earned and owned approach to heavy up these next two months, promoting Jay's content to highly influential PR, marketing and social media influencers. We'll tie these tactics back to metrics based on web traffic, speaking engagements and as look at a few social metrics to see if the volume of conversation around Jay increases. We'll do this for the remainder of 2013 and evaluate in 2014 to see how successful this approach is.
That enough strategy there? ;-)
