@Neans @CJ  Sorry did you say SADDLED with Richards? Oh, yeah it must suck to play wing for the guy who has second most assists on the team. My god what a fucking nightmare. How difficult it must be for Cally to put in goals with that kinda dead weight next to him. Have you even watched this season?

Also @dsclaw88 pretty much covered that retarded Chelios comparison already, so I'll not even both responding to it.
Cally is a GREAT dude, and his effort counts for a lot in terms of how it bolsters his teammates and the fans. (I know all about being a lesser player on the bench and making up for it with effort, trust me.) But if you think that those intangibles are worth 6mil then you are blind my friend. Cally's game is going to fall off in the next 3 years faster than Drury's did, and all that will be left is an albatross contract, a broken right wing with a C on his sweater and a tarnished relationship with thousands of brokenhearted fans.

8 months ago on Rangers, Callahan Inching Towards Contract Agreement

Reply

@Neans  I think the point people are making is that Cally's style of play puts him at risk for injury (effort not skill makes him good.) You simply can't play that way as you age (especially if you are as small as Callahan is). So, either we are saddled with someone who cost 6mil and kinda sucks or someone who is broken literally all the time. There is no long term upside at the price we are talking about.

I can't even believe we are still having this conversation. 6 at 6 is WAY WAY over-value for Callahan, letter or not. Kick this greedy little fuck to the curb. Seriously, he should be on bended knee thanking whatever god he believes in for every dollar over 5 he is offered.

And as for the prophesies of doom, let me end the suspense for you. Even if he takes the 6 at 6 deal NYR have offered (and certainly if they go a dollar higher), the pressure on him to produce will be immense. He will make it about 1/4 of the way through next season before the pressure of the huge contract, his waning numbers, Larry Brooks tearing him a new asshole in the Post 3x a week and comparing him to Drury, and the whole of twitter either laughing their asses off or calling for his head gets to him and his game COMPLETELY falls apart. This has already gone too far, the org needs to cut their losses and walk away. Trade him, play him into the ground for the remainder of the the season, whatever. He's let his ego get the best of him, forgotten who he is, and why we love him. His time here is done.

@Kevin DeLury No he's a dirty prick, who not only looks like a giant baby (seriously look at him, it's fucking creepy), but cries like one as well, always with the complaining at the refs. He lacks the charisma, creativity and intelligence that set Sean Avery apart and made him so likable, to his fans and teammates. Even his detractors had to accept his talent for what he did, but that's not the case with Chris Neil. When you take away those qualities all you have left is an ugly fucktard who concussed Boyle in the middle of the playoffs. There is no room in our lineup for a player like that, and frankly I am little surprised that you don't completely agree.

Right now, as far as I am concerned (and it pains me to say this), The Rangers are a bunch of crybabies. "Aww coach yells at us and hurts our feelings. We don't wanna play for him. Get us a nice coach." Boo-fucking-hoo.

At the end of last season, with the disappointing finish, I was inclined to think "Maybe the players are right. Maybe Torts was holding them back," but looks to me like they NEED to be yelled at. The way they are playing right now is disgraceful.

Was Torts perfect? Hell no. Did he take a lot of the creativity out of the game for a couple of his elite players (Gabs, Nash, Richie)? Yes. Was he pretty harsh, and hard-headed most of the time? Undoubtedly. BUT, did he get the job done? Fuck yes he did. These boys got tired of being yelled at by their coach for not working hard, so they got him fired. But they forgot about the part where you gotta work hard whether you're being yelled at or not.

Cmon, Kevin, you are better than this. This is garbage. Even on a slow news day, you are better off posting trade rumors from HockeyBuzz.

We'll set aside the fact that if Sean was gay, he'd come out, period. He's too comfortable with himself not to. Anyone who's ever met him will tell you that.

Setting aside that obvious fact, if he was involved in a gay relationship of any kind I am sure you could expect the news to be broken by a "legitimate" source (e.g. Perez, Lainey, TMZ, Gawker), not some jerkoff with his first Wordpress sight reposting shit from all of those sources.

Also, Cohen and Avery's responses on Twitter and Instagram make it pretty clear that they think the "news" is ridiculous.

I wouldn't get too stressed about it, @KevinDeLury , you aren't getting tickets at face value anyways. They are all going to be taken by season ticket holders of each of the teams involved (and Yankees holders who will be given the option to buy as well.) Take whatever prices you see on the chart there and double (or triple) them, and you've got what you are paying for your seat. Alternately, I am guessing that an Isles blogger might float you a seat for free in exchange for sexual favors and the right to brag on the internet about them.

I honestly have no clue why Mess ever tossed his hat in the ring for this fray. He basically had the GM spot on lock (he was the heir apparent as you mentioned), but now it's in doubt. By indicating his interest in being head coach, Mess basically said that the GM spot they were grooming him for was a second choice position. Who the hell what's to hire someone to a job they know is a fallback? He honestly might have just screwed himself.

@jgaray @AG_Blue @ChrisRowan I am sure what part of your statement I find more ridiculous, you contention that one bad season makes Richie not a great player, your doomsday predictions about his future numbers or your comparison of him to Dru/Gomez.

Let's start with last season. Without a proper training camp (which clearly fucked him up) and a terrible slump (which clearly fucked him up more) he still put up 34 points. We'll ignore the part where that's only 8 less than Nash had with no one screaming buyout about him, and just go ahead and extrapolate that out to a full season, just over 60 points. In hands down the worst performance of his life Richie still put up 60 points, and you are panicking and calling for a buyout?! Seriously? That's a worst-case-60-point center, dude. They don't fucking grow on trees!

Next, what possible justification do you have for saying he'll never put up over 65 again? Did you have a chat with him wherein he told you that he's lost it and it's never coming back or are you simply clairvoyant? Players' numbers fluctuate all the damn time.

Finally, your comparison to Dru and Gomez. By the time we got him, Dru's knees and back were shot. It's a miracle he lasted as long as he did. His numbers decline had everything to do with the type of game he played and the injuries he had keeping him from playing it. Neither of those applies to Richards, as he doesn't play a heavy, body-throwing, grindy, sacrifice body for the goal/shot block game, and he has no chronic injuries to speak of at this point. Gomez was an arrogant stoner (yes a stoner) with an attitude problem and no work ethic. His game fell off when they named Dru captain, plain and simple. He thought he deserved the C, was butt hurt when he didn't get it, and slacked till he was traded (at which point he was too old/lazy/out of shape to come back.) None of this applies to Richie, who doesn't want the C and works his fucking ass off to stay in shape.

Bottom line is, doing anything right now other than making it clear to Richards that he needs to be READY TO GO next season is dumb. If we buy him out, he will get signed elsewhere and play in a way what will make us regret buying him out.

Also, I have no idea why I am defending Richie as much as I am, except for the fact that I don't like seeing you all shit all over him.

1 year, 4 months ago on Richards Would Like to Return to Dallas

@AG_Blue EXACTLY. We have literally nothing to lose. @ChrisRowan I am really not all that concerned about that. You can't be overly concerned with fringe-possible worst-case scenarios in a situation like this. Richie's upside is way too up not to gamble on it a bit more. I am guessing he has 5 more years as a player in NHL, and he's gonna be pretty great for 4 of those (and he's gonna a great mentor to young players for all of them.) I would rather have him on our bench for those years than on someone else's.

1 year, 4 months ago on Richards Would Like to Return to Dallas

If I am not mistaken, we don't have to exercise our amnesty buyout this summer, we can actually use it next summer. In Brad Richards, we have an all star player who had one rough season under a coach who was just fired. Don't you think it might be a little rash to buy him out or trade him right now? I would keep him on one more season to see how it pans out.

"Did a quick bit of crunching: If he starts the same percentage of the season that he started last year (75.6%), he will start 36 games. Though it should be noted that the compressed season will mean more back to backs and probably a lower percentage of games played.

If he wins the same percentage of games that he won last year (62.9%, his career best) he only wins 22 games in 36 starts this season.

In order to win 30 games at that win percentage, he would need to start every game of the season."
