I agree with allowing UGC to be posted directly. If it went thru any quality control at the outse it would no longer be UGC, because according to the Conced project definition, UGC is 'content created by teachers and/or students that has not been through a formal process of peer review. Having said that, I believe that subsequent informal peer review should be encouraged, and as Mark suggested, some kind of process to force good content to the top could be applied. My response is that we are all adults. Any speaker worth their salt would not be put out by audience members tapping away on their keyboards or tablets. If they are put out, perhaps they should reconsider their own positions. As for other audience members, unless they are severely distracted by those using their keypads, they should continue to concentrate on their own learning. What does it have to do with them anyway?
It's quite simple. If I'm interested in the talk or presentation, I will record the highlights of what is being said or attempt to summarise, and probably also share them instantly with my professional learning network through Twitter or live blogging. That's what I do at such events. If anyone wants to question my motives for this, let them. We all have different ways of meaning making. Mine, like yours is to create content that is relevant to the presentation for later reflection or for sharing with others. If I'm not interested, I won't play Farmville or check my e-mail account. I will probably just get up and leave the room.
Keep up the good work and don't be put off by those who don't quite get it yet.
CraigTaylor74 stevebatchelder stevebatchelder timbuckteeth There is evidence that the semantic web (some would call it Web 3.0) is beginning to emerge in mainstream use. Already we see recommender systems on Amazon, Ebay etc. My own conception of the semantic web becomes the Smart eXtended Web, or Web x.0 which takes the social richness of Web 2.0 and the information richness of Web 3.0 and merges them into a metaweb, which relies on Smart devices, mobile pervasive and 3D non-touch gesture interfaces, and creates an entirely new immersive environment within which we can learn, work and play.
