this sounds a lot like a hit out on McD. I hope someone sticks up for him if he gets roughed around a bit or AV shifts the D pairs so the top line isnt going against McD/Girardi.  We have already seen with McD out that its possible to put others on the top pair although its not ideal.  Could throw the game plan off...

UNLESS - they are just saying this to the media to feed the rangers false information....SO MANY THEORIES!!!!!

@BobDunne @mlsranger @KevinTheNYRBlog  I am not saying to take fighting out, I am merely trying to make a point that if player safety is the focus of your argument then you cant ignore fighting as part of that and retaliating for a bad hit with a few punches is not always the way to go.  Look back to the Todd Bertuzzi reign of terror before he calmed down...him trying to fight someone was dangerous to player safety, so there is a risk to players with regards to safety when it comes to fighting, so if you want it, just know that when a guy falls hard to the ice and gets a concussion, or sprains a wrist punching a dude, that fighting isnt the culprit and it wasnt a dirty fight or hit.

I am going to leave you with this clip of Bertuzzi:

very hypocritical.  you want retaliation which can also be dangerous to a player but you want the league to crack down on the hits that would cause them, which do you want, a rough game or a safe one?

@mattimar @mlsranger  i dont disagree, i think there just needs to be a change in mindset for things to move forward, yes, it was an appropriate time for retaliation, but it was also a time for restraint and there was a scuffle after the play and I am satisfied with that knowing that players skated right up Burrows and did try to start something  before the refs broke it up.

I'm a bit baffled by your comment Kevin because the refs were breaking something up right behind McD.  Girardi and Zuc looked to be involved getting in his face.  I don't think that the trend of an eye for an eye on hits is the way the league is going anymore and yes, you want to have your teammates stand up for you, but its a new day where the top concern is player safety and it for AV to stop Carcillo from going out and doing something dumb takes the league closer to that vision.  You will always have dirty players but how you handle them in the future is going to be the real challenge.

maybe this was part of the reason torts got fired.  Slats said that he asked torts to change a few things, maybe rolling 4 lines regularly was one of them and Torts believed in his system and not his guys to rise to the occasion, so he got the axe...its one theory at least.

even if st louis doesnt hit his stride this year, i will give him 20 games into next season to figure it out. i think something isnt clicking this season, and i think he will work hard at it over the summer to learn the system and come back flying next year.

if the rangers face the devils in the playoffs (if they even make it, the devils that is), can we put avery right behind the glass of the Devils Goalie box or behind the devils bench at MSG so he can taunt him the whole time?  Make it like the guy Shooter McGavin hired in Happy Gilmore!
