@Hotfreak @mlsranger @AnnoyingJoe  I think there is merit from the regular season. The fact that we didnt finish in a wildcard spot and won in our outdoor games. I think AV did a good job there, not just the position we have been in in the playoffs.

@Hotfreak @AnnoyingJoe @mlsranger  I think Roy will win it because he turned the Avs around in one year, and I get that, but AV came into a new team also, had a rough start and got his players to buy into a system facing lots of adversity. I just think that if you look at him overall this season, he really kept a calm demeanor and has done something special with his team.

I dont get how AV was not nominated for the Jack Adams award.  He has brought this team a long way in one year.

@Say my Name  I think he was rounding into form like this before the olympics and then he lost the gold medal game...I think that hit him hard and he is starting to get that back (finally).  Lundqvist thrives on the high pressure games as we have seen with his game 7 stats and olympic gold and silver medals.  If he stays like this, no matter how bad our PP and Scoring are, we will have a good chance going forward.

I still stick to McD for captain. I dont like Girardi or Staal as captain.  I am not sure of Staal's future with the team either because if he wants to play with his brothers in Carolina, it may not matter what we offer him...

@ATCRyan @Bleed_the_freak  you can say the same thing about Richards and St Louis in Tampa Bay....big fish, small pond.  How come we never poach players from Montreal or Boston or Toronto, teams that care about winning? Because we never have anything to give them of value in return!  Best trade we ever made was Gomez for McD!

I want to share a quote with everyone from a blog article on Edmonton journal.

“I thought the challenge [with the Rangers] was going to be terrific, and it has been. I wouldn't say that it has been even close to successful; it has been competitive, but it takes a long time to change things. Guys get into position and it takes you three or four or five years just to clean out the contracts and change the environment … Owners don’t want to hear it. But do they want reality or do they want bullshit? When I went to New York, [Dave] Checketts told me that we have to have stars in New York or we are not going to sell tickets. Bottom line is every team wants to sell every ticket and create as much revenue as possible … Only one team is going to win. Does every owner in the league know that? Do they honestly think they have a legitimate chance at winning? We bullshit each other and we tell our players that our goal is to win the Stanley Cup. Well, that is the goal, but do you really believe it?”

That was from Sather.  Do you get it, he doesn't care about winning the cup, he doesn't build the Rangers to win the cup.  He doesn't believe in the possibility of doing it.  He has been here for how many years now and only came close to sniffing it once, and it wasn't even that close.  ITS BULLSHIT! WE SHOULDN'T HAVE TO PUT UP WITH THIS CRAP ANY MORE!

As for Nash and Richards - We are stuck with one of  them...maybe we can chase Nash out of NY and get him to waive his NTC again, but who is going to want that contract that can send something back in return?

this sounds a lot like a hit out on McD. I hope someone sticks up for him if he gets roughed around a bit or AV shifts the D pairs so the top line isnt going against McD/Girardi.  We have already seen with McD out that its possible to put others on the top pair although its not ideal.  Could throw the game plan off...

UNLESS - they are just saying this to the media to feed the rangers false information....SO MANY THEORIES!!!!!

@BobDunne @mlsranger @KevinTheNYRBlog  I am not saying to take fighting out, I am merely trying to make a point that if player safety is the focus of your argument then you cant ignore fighting as part of that and retaliating for a bad hit with a few punches is not always the way to go.  Look back to the Todd Bertuzzi reign of terror before he calmed down...him trying to fight someone was dangerous to player safety, so there is a risk to players with regards to safety when it comes to fighting, so if you want it, just know that when a guy falls hard to the ice and gets a concussion, or sprains a wrist punching a dude, that fighting isnt the culprit and it wasnt a dirty fight or hit.

I am going to leave you with this clip of Bertuzzi:

very hypocritical.  you want retaliation which can also be dangerous to a player but you want the league to crack down on the hits that would cause them, which do you want, a rough game or a safe one?

4 months ago on Conversation @ http://nyrangersblog.com/

Reply

@mattimar @mlsranger  i dont disagree, i think there just needs to be a change in mindset for things to move forward, yes, it was an appropriate time for retaliation, but it was also a time for restraint and there was a scuffle after the play and I am satisfied with that knowing that players skated right up Burrows and did try to start something  before the refs broke it up.

4 months ago on Conversation @ http://nyrangersblog.com/

Reply

I'm a bit baffled by your comment Kevin because the refs were breaking something up right behind McD.  Girardi and Zuc looked to be involved getting in his face.  I don't think that the trend of an eye for an eye on hits is the way the league is going anymore and yes, you want to have your teammates stand up for you, but its a new day where the top concern is player safety and it for AV to stop Carcillo from going out and doing something dumb takes the league closer to that vision.  You will always have dirty players but how you handle them in the future is going to be the real challenge.

maybe this was part of the reason torts got fired.  Slats said that he asked torts to change a few things, maybe rolling 4 lines regularly was one of them and Torts believed in his system and not his guys to rise to the occasion, so he got the axe...its one theory at least.

you cant negotiate based on what you think the cap is going to be.  you have to do it with the current cap because i dont know how much you read but the cap increase isnt going to be as great as everyone is thinking next year because you are talking about revenues in the same currency but when you look at the numbers for canadian clubs, you need to do the conversion and the money comes out to less for the total cap increase.

@NYRBlueBlog @KevinTheNYRBlog @mlsranger  you also have to take into consideration that i believe Chicago had the most amount of players participating in the olympics, so their potential for olympic hangover is almost as high as the rangers.  also keep in mind, hank just went on a 5 for 6 game win streak in sochi.  regardless of if there is time inbetween the two, being in a game is a different experience than just practice and travel days.

I disagree. I think that European hockey and North American hockey are very different and I think that the US flaws in their skill and strategy of how they see the game were exposed.

I know we are all upset about how the US came out the last two games but I have to say this tournament has been some of the best hockey I have seen in a long time. I think injuries are in the nature of the game and if the NHL was still in progress you would have had injuries there as well. The rangers so far have not suffered any overly dramatic blows like losing Cally or McD for an extended period. I am excited for rangers hockey to start again and getting through the home stretch but I would continue to endorse the NHL sending it's players to the Olympics. As always though it's a matter of making sure the NHL collaborates with the IOC, IIHF and host country to make sure the NHL players are as safe as possible playing these games
