@YadierMolinasOedipalComplex @ABSmileBunch I think I might do that...not sure if the padres would.

So, I guess it's safe to say that if the Dodgers bring on Byrnes, we can expect a trade for Ian Kennedy sometime soon.

@YadierMolinasOedipalComplex wait...this doesn't make sense to me...did buck or reynolds say that they thought the cardinals won because of cheating?

@Sugar-Free Generic Grape Soda @foldamort KC is playing the wrong way by enjoying themselves.
@EephusBlue does that mean Matheny played like there was no tomorrow in the DS, then didn't in the CS?
@DBrim just ask Tim Wallach if he's responsible for the improvements in Don's bunting decisions...he'll probably just look confused.
lunch time here, I need to be more productive, so I'll go now.
@EephusBlue I know you're probably kidding (hoping), but still.
@EephusBlue @ABSmileBunch would he pass up his guaranteed salary for the next 2 years?
@YadierMolinasOedipalComplex @ABSmileBunch @ThtsaPaddlin yeah, that's the question...I would, but I'm not a talented baseball player who could stand to earn more...I wonder if young players insure themselves against potential career earnings the way stars like max scherzer do (i.e., the reason Scherzer could turn down the Tigers extension offer, because he's insured himself for at least the extension amount in the event of an injury)...it's entirely possible that players don't bite at those early extension offers unless they have personal issues like that guy in houstson (singleton?).
@EephusBlue who? you? or someone who comes on here and hates DM?
@ThtsaPaddlin @ABSmileBunch yeah, would have saved a ton of money there...but I was thinking even along the lines of the Longoria extention that took place 6 days into his career...I think the risk/reward of extending Seager early is probably worth it.
@ThtsaPaddlin @ABSmileBunch extended? Kershaw?

@bigjuicyvan also, a lot less Kemp.
So, a different train of thought that the friedman post below got me thinking about. Friedman has been on the vanguard of signing upcoming players to contract extensions when they have little to no major league experience...it will be interesting to see if he attempts this with some of the upcoming Dodgers prospects (Pederson if they keep him, Urias or Seager)....this approach seems like it could have some value to the dodgers 'efficiency' project since it could provide them with cost certainty for young stars.
@Jeremy_N These points may be valid, but the criticisms of Friedman are only meaningful if they don't apply to other organizations....which the author doesn't explore...I mean look, the orioles employ Delmon Young and he's had his issues...the Rays jettisoned Elijah Dukes and I think it was the Nationals that picked him up...One of the biggest stars in the game (Miguel Cabrera) has had his troubles with a DUI just prior to an important (tie breaker?) game and I think he's even had police to his house for domestic issues...Matt Garza and David Price have received little backlash from MLB for making sexist comments on Twitter. Hell, back in the 1980's the Yankees employed notorious coke head Steve Howe. Even a cherished former Dodgers manager has been known to make comments that come across as racist, similarly, MIke Piazza made some racist sounding comments in his book. I don't think that racism or homophobia in the game are limited to the guys listed in this article. So, on the one hand, I don't think it's just the Rays or Friedman, and on the other hand, I'm not sure that all of these cases mean that the players involved are 'sleaze' that can't be rehabilitated/educated and continue to be employed...for the most part, they're just following the societal script.
@DBrim I mean, in tone/temperament.
@DBrim is the facebook crowd different than this comments section crowd?
with regards to bunting, is bunting with the pitcher generally a good move with men on? Is there differential value in bunting a runner from 2nd to 3rd as opposed to 1st to 2nd? I generally see bunting as wasted outs, especially when doing it with a professional hitter, however, I'm curious if there are situations where it makes more sense.
For now, since I've been closely following the Royals since about 2010, I feel pretty well invested in this team and it's truly a joyous thing to see them doing this well...even with Ned Yost.

feels like a long time until the WS starts...my wife (whose natal village is Kansas City) wants to have people over on tuesday to cheer for the Royals...she told me the other night, "I finally get it, I see why you hang on every Dodgers game and what it is you look forward to many seasons." We'll see if she remembers that when spring training starts next season.
@LA_Woman @Sugar-Free Generic Grape Soda The Royals winning is also a plus for this offseason...if it happens...the joy isn't just from the Giants losing.

@P_F_P poor fella
@capnsparrow speaking of fried chicken, I could go for some of the good stuff right about now.
Jesus Fried Chicken, the Royals had better not let off the gas pedal.
@Sugar-Free Generic Grape Soda @P_F_P I might have been one of those 3...I have no regrets

not that I looked at the stats, but I was hoping to see jacob scavuzzo in here somewhere...anything noteable going on with him?
@mostly exciting potato one that dates me but I always remember because it was back when I first started following baseball is Ron Walden...I'm not sure he ever even made it to the majors.

@mostly exciting potato potatos dildos essentially the same thing right?
@davstein48 @TheOcelot @ tomato how many games did the bullpen give away this year? That seems like a huge something that can be improved upon to offset some other losses or regression? Also, speaking of regression, I'd expect the historically bad offense at catcher to regress toward (at least AJ's) career norms...This team was good, but it was far from perfect, even if we don't assume the same level of production from some of the key players, maybe there is improvements in other areas that amount to an overall net gain...at least that's what I'm expecting.
@DodgerDodger @capnsparrow ^ the $20 million bench player i'm referring to above is CC BTW.
@DodgerDodger @capnsparrow if they can turn that $20 million dollar bench player into a 13 million dollar lefty platoon guy (i.e., eat $10 million of CC's AAV and replace him with a lefty bench guy at up to $3 million on a one year deal) then I say make that move...you'll get at least as much value out of the Joc/SVS platoon in left as you'd get from CC...then you only need a defensive replacement to cover for Kemp late in the games/spel Puig occasionally.
@capnsparrow what would the dodgers have to give up to the cubs to get Russell? seems like it might be a lot...would Urias get it done? Would Urias be worth it?
@Disgruntled Goat what did he predict?

@mawp @moneynow27 @Sugar-Free Generic Grape Soda Also...Godwin's law isn't JUST that every conversation will lead to Hitler, but that eventaully if an online discussion goes long enough, that it will lead to a Hitler comparison...so, something in between what you and I said.
@mawp @ABSmileBunch @moneynow27 @Sugar-Free Generic Grape Soda my mistake, in any case, we'll call the losing of the argument when invoking Hitler/Nazi's to be 'ABSmile's Law'...and the rest of what I said is the more important part of what I said, and it doesn't change just because I was mistaken about the full implications of Godwin's law.
someone below said that they had a feeling this post was written with the express intent of being referenced later when we're all engaged in a whinefest about something happening that we don't like...I think it's fair (i.e. not filler) of Mike to note this now when everyone is so Jazzed about Friedman, by pointing out some of the things that come with a new superstar GM charged with improving the roster and doing so efficiently.
@moneynow27 @Sugar-Free Generic Grape Soda Look, the whole reason Hitler came up was Brim's reference to Godwin's law (suggestion), which is that in a 'debate' the first person to bring up Hitler automatically loses...he was simply comparing GL(s) to how bringing up Stanton seems to be an automatic debate 'winner' in here...others made passing comments about Stanton being compared to Hitler...there were not disrespectful invocations of Hitler, nor were they making light of what Hitler did...it wasn't a big deal until it was turned into a big deal...sorry that happened to your family and you're right, people shouldn't make Hitler comparisons lightly (i.e., the whole reason for Godwin's law)...in this case, people weren't really doing that though.
@Purple Drank @moneynow27 *undoctored picture of a cat
@TellMyWifeISaidHello @Disgruntled Goat @jWerthfan That doesn't provide any salary relief for the Dodgers and it doesn't resolve the issue of too many outfielders that are Majory league quality.
@ngross32 What if he makes a 'good move' (i.e., improves the team) but at the expense of a player that many of us have an irrational attachment to (Matt Kemp)...that's what this article is about, not about Friedman making 'bad moves'
@BlueMarvin @ABSmileBunch I hope you and dustin are right, but, being a pessimist, I'm preparing for something I don't like and will be happy if it doesn't happen.
5 days, 1 hour ago on Andrew Friedman Is Going To Do Something That Infuriates You
@Disgruntled Goat @ABSmileBunch @Anime Ethier @BlueMarvin do they actually pronounce the first 'g'? as in 'Why-ng-ing'?
@Anime Ethier @BlueMarvin I prefer winefest
@Subtle Euphemism aka Jonathan Lingo it could be a case of them (Sternberg and Silverman) feeling comfortable with Dave Martinez taking over and Martinez being cheaper than Maddon while getting something of value back for letting the Dodgers take Maddon.
Regardless, I hope that he doesn't trade Kemp...but I expect since he's probably the easiest to move for anything of value big contract on this team (other than Kershaw)...I fully expect that it will happen. If it doesn't happen this offseason, I'll call myself pleasantly surprised and then worry about it being something that could conceivably happen in the future.
