@SpaceTime @PacoForPresidente2028 I agree with you that LF defense (which is where he'll be playing) isn't as imperative as most defensive positions. But even if you're willing to dismiss his defense (which is arguable at best, given that last year ARZ's pitchers only averaged about 7 SO/9 which still leaves 20 outs per game unaccounted for), he has never put up a season with an oWAR better than 2.9, which is largely due to his lack of contact or patience or speed.

@SpaceTime @PacoForPresidente2028 W/r/t Uribe: he's been a very good defensive 3B for just about his entire career, and thus offers something more as a player beyond his mid-range power. W/r/t Reynolds: he was only ever passable as a major league starter in one season, 2009, when he managed to make enough contact to hit .260 with a .349 OBP in addition to his best year power-wise. In all of his other non-2009 seasons (2007, 2008, 2010-2013) he's combined for a total of 3.0 WAR, or 0.5 per season. I think that Trumbo is slightly better than Reynolds offensively and defensively and thus won't be that bad, but their skill sets are similar.

@SpaceTime @PacoForPresidente2028 Home runs are great, but if they're all you offer as a baseball player, without any defense or contact or speed or patience to go with them, you're not a very valuable player (see: Rob Deer, Dave Kingman, DINGERS!'s very good comparable in Mark Reynolds). Trumbo has shown good home run power, yes, but thus far in his career has been below-average in every other tool there is (and a cursory glance at his minor league numbers reveals that this is not something likely to reverse itself). The only thing he has going for him is that, at 28, he could still make a leap and be a better-than-average major league starter. But for now, he's projected to be worth about 2 wins in 2014 by several projection systems, which is league-average for starting position players, and I see no reason to dispute that.

@SpaceTime Trumbo's career OBP is .299. His 2013 WAR was the same as Nick Punto's.

@DINGERS! Given that I am a campaign manager I imagine I fall under "mimes" and "raging alcoholics." Possibly "talking animals."

@DBrim @PacoForPresidente2028 I'm not complaining, it just seems strange that they literally didn't make a single move, not even a minor one.

It is kind of weird that the Dodgers didn't do ANYTHING at the Winter Meetings beyond pissing off Dave Stewart so much that he threatened to set something on fire.
