@SENSible Voice @Leajjes You don't think when Ottawa is on the road teams won't match up this line with their top offensive players?

A line of Michalek, Legwand, Chiasson would scare me in my own zone. Legwand's advance stats are not much better than Spezza's for CORSI.

Can you please take off the auto play video ads? They're the worse.

Gonchar isn't doing well at all in Dallas this year: http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=1957. He wouldn't have been the solution Ottawa needed either. I was hoping Ottawa made a play for Mark Streit but Flyers wanted him pretty badly. Much more than Ottawa did frankly. The rest of the UFA defense market wouldn't have really helped Ottawa.

This leaves Ottawa the choice of making a trade in the off season or seeing if Wiercioch and Cowen can fill into the second pair role -- "wait and see". I think the "wait and see" option was the smart way to go even looking back. Ottawa still has trade card in it's hand. I also believe trade options get better as the season goes on and teams find out where they stand for the playoffs.

I think people also need to keep in mind that both Cowen and Wiercioch are still not even 24 years old. It takes time to become a good NHL defenseman. You have to put in a lot of time. Cowen is coming off a major injury and frankly I don't think he's 100% yet.

Is there any clear pick front leader for the top pick?

Wiercioch and Benoit have played well in replacement of Lundin. Should he get one of their spots? Just saying.

@lambnyc Mark posted http://therawness.com/reader-letters-1-part-1/ in this article. It's a 5 or 6 part series. I'm half way through it and it's a real eye opener for me.

This is the best write up I've ever read about this issue. I've been battling internal vs external validation for around 12 months now; as someone who suffers from an extreme need for external validation. This article clarifies the ideas of internal and external validation so much for me. Real eye opener even after reading your Models book a couple times. Thanks Mark.

@silversevensens  I'm confused. Why not just put Daugavins on waivers if they want to send him down. Why go through all this trouble to get rid of him?

I'm all for it. Yes, he has been the heart and soul of the team but at some point we all need to move on -- it's hard to do.

Let's face reality here. I think we're going to need at least 2 more seasons to reload the team into a decent, good, playoff team again. By that the time, Alfie will be getting real close to the big FOUR-OH. We need to start building for the future instead of looking what could have been in the past.

Also, there's more than a few times in dire need of a winger that fits Alfies role too. The Blues, Rangers and Kings all come to mind off the top of my head. Of course in a cap world no trade is really that ideal and we need to keep that in mind too.
