God, I wish we did live in that world. Caveat Emptor doesn't mean "screw you if you didn't read the fineprint." People trust that these companies will make good on their $75 for a widget, because that's what they say will happen. If I invest in a company for $500,000 under the pretext that I may lose it, but the reason I risk it is for higher financial gain, then that's an entirely different scenario.

Hey there! Thanks for the link to my blog. In no way have I ever said that we should stop marketing in other areas though. I actual think social media isn't really a good place at all to market on behalf of a brand. Social is a great place to build a network and have others talk about your brand.

Amen as usual. I've always said social media is a crappy sales/marketing platform, it's great for conversations that aren't scalable. If people think newsletter open rates are bad, try a tweet!
I have almost 100,000 followers, and on average if I send out a pic it get's viewed 2000 times. Do the math.
10,000 opt-ins to my blog newsletter are 10X more valuable than 10,000 social media opt-ins.
