@AdamWestbrook wrote a telling article last year http://adamwestbrook.wordpress.com/2010/08/13/blogging-week-5-five-big-mistakes-i-wish-i-hadnt-made/ warning about building up a profile and following on wordpress.com and then discovering its limitations. A simple but crucial limitation is that wordpress.com restricts advertising and the placement of some embedded code (i-frames for example).
If you are hoping to establish a career - then an entrepreneurial approach from the start would seem to be sensible. So - despite loving wordpress.com personally - then Adam's advice is definitely worth noting: If you haven’t set up your own site yet, then really think about spending £60 a year on web hosting.
