@Mercurial_Outfielder @berselius Maybe they should switch Brenly with Moreland. Zonk seems like the type that would at least be open-mided to new learnings.

@berselius No kidding? That's the second oddly-similar-to-smart thing I've heard him say the last few times I've listened to him. Maybe I ought to give the TV guys more of a chance this year?...
Dude, who is doing the PBP MLB.com for today's game? He just mentioned that Pena's hitting line last year suffered a very low BABIP, so the low numbers were affected by bad luck. He also mentioned that Pena's GB% had a huge spike last year, which may account for some of that.
WTF? Since when do announcers know about BABIP? Who is this man?
Brett Jackson only draws walks off of overhand pitchers, apparently.

@mb21 If they had Cliff Lee they'd probably keep him on the bench to back up Silva.
@mb21 Starting rotation ---> Dempster, Berg, Maine, Silva, Russell
@RiceCube Moreland has declared it a triple. Perez is redeemed.
@RiceCube Dammit Nando! Maybe he just needs glasses.
@mb21 I thought Russell was the one replacing Wells? Berg would be better taking Z's spot when the Cubs move him to middle relief.
Who was pitching while the A's scored those 298 runs? I zoned out after they put the non-prospect scrubs in the game.
@RiceCube Scores a run. He is now the game's hero and must do the press conference.
@RiceCube They should give a major league contract to anyone who draws a walk today. And fire anyone who gets caught stealing.
These are real prospects in the game now. My gratitude for the lack of a TV feed during Barney's at bat is dwindling.
Moreland vs. Ditka ----> Singing deathmatch
@mb21 Yeah, I think what I need to understand better is basically which positions matter and which don't. I'm still stuck at "top of order good, bottom of order baaad", which apparently doesn't work since Kosuke should be either batting 1st or 7th.
@RiceCube Koyie would be 4-3. He gets an extra .25 successful AB for every finger he once lost.
Is Geo 0 for 3 now? With a should-have-been GIDP? Fuck that, DFA him.
@mb21 To tell the truth, I don't really understand how that lineup calculator works. Lineups are sometimes completely different than the ones above them, and changing the model years completely screws everything up.
Plus the entire Cubs lineup basically projects to being not-too-bad-but-nothing-special, so probably the only thing that's really clear is that you're fine as long as you don't lead off with Soriano or have Soto hit 6th or 7th.
Byrd ------> Optimal #3 hitter
Every article should be tagged like this. It would make it so easy to find everything.

@berselius Agreed. Not easy to top Manny and Damon to the Rays for $8M, but that thar Anthopolous went and did it.

"Milton Bradley Arrested On Felony ChargeSheesh...I still think that signing to this day is the reason why the Cubs failed in 2009 and consequently in 2010"
@Mercurial_Outfielder @melissa Maybe Hill would improve the construction team's output because he handles foremen well?
@mb21 @Mercurial_Outfielder Unfortunately this would leave Ari Kaplan out of the mix. Maybe he and Hill could platoon behind the plate.
@Mercurial_Outfielder @mb21 Any value McCarver would add over his statistical acumen would just be a bonus.
@mb21 @Mercurial_Outfielder If Kaplan isn't available, maybe we could get Tim McCarver?
I didn't really know much about Kaplan before and I just now saw that book blog post. My, my my.
@mb21 I only understood like half of that, but yeah, that Bloguin ribbon drives me crazy, mostly because it covers up text (the result of a text search will often dis/appear under it). Also, I clear my cookies after every browser session (and don't read any other Bloguin sites), so unnecessary logins really annoy me. Slashdot has a similar floating ribbon thingy and I despise it with fury.

@Mercurial_Outfielder @mb21 Ooh, ooh, and also that stupid ribbon at the top. At least Bloguin let you collapse it.
Mandatory threading is the main reason I've never switched to gmail. Aside from the spying and corporo-fascist control of information and everything, I mean.
@RiceCube @mb21 @Mercurial_Outfielder It's kind of shocking how few lefties they have. Am I really right that it's only Russell, Maine, and Marshall? So basically if you want to start a lefty your best bet is either to start Marshall or just tell one of the righties to throw left-handed.
@mb21 @Mercurial_Outfielder Yeah well. I still don't like it. (dying laughing)
@Mercurial_Outfielder @RiceCube @mb21 This is true. Although as mentioned above, so can allowing him to tie his shoes.
@Mercurial_Outfielder @RiceCube @mb21 Plus Silva's only got one year of contract left, doesn't he? So there's got to be a playoff contender willing to take that gamble?
Maybe they're saving him for a mid-season trade? And then bring in Cashner? Wait a minute, that can't be it, that actually sounds smart
@Mercurial_Outfielder @mb21
difficulty in following mutiple conversations
This is the real killer for me. Also, quoting.
@mb21 Right, so there are actually even more rational reasons why they shouldn't have been indifferent about him.
The Cubs are so weird, man... I don't think I'd even mind it so much if they were just normally stupid, like the Royals or something. But it's not even like they're chasing after dumb traditional stats like BA or Wins or anything, because then they'd trade Wells and play Soto. The trades happening may be stupid, but I can understand why they did them. What I can't understand is if they were going to trade, why not trade Silva?
Okay, so maybe not the Royals. But it'd at least be easier to know what to get annoyed about. Now it's just...? I don't even...
Oh and now that I've actually used it a few times, I think I can cast my vote for livefyre as "boo". But then I don't think I've ever liked any redesign of any website ever, so.
So I've been wondering about this for a while... Why has it been obvious to everyone for so long that Gorz was the one to deal to clear up the rotation, rather than Wells or Silva? Obviously, Silva would be a different type of deal, but surely he's the one most likely to be overvalued after last year (and with Seattle paying him)? And isn't Gorz just a more boring/reliable version of Wells? Likely to perform about the same, but without the shoot-the-moon possible upside that might make Wells better trade bait?
I never understood why he was the one they put in the bullpen either (leaving aside the question of why they put anyone there at all). Does the Cubs' indifference towards Gorz have any rational basis, or did they just not like his chin?
@mb21 @berselius @AndCounting Wow would Sosa in the booth be incredible. WGN must sign him now.

This guy has already added more value to the Cubs than Koyie Hill.
