@shoot_the_goalie @calithirteen@IcyCupsupposedly Buffalo is the only team in the market that would be willing to spend $6 million on him. This dragged out for too long, the trade offers weren't that great....san jose was willing trade a few prospects and 1st draft....doesn't sound like someone worth over 6 mil a year. Buffalo will go into the free agency market and could press him for less than 6 million. I love Cally and miss him but I think he will be lucky to get 6 yrs 6 million from anyone else.

@shoot_the_goalie @IcyCupI agree but you can't tell me when his agent is claiming 6 yrs for $7 million is a "hometown discount" that the agent is not all in Cally's head pumping him up. Any sane agent would of said, Cally, you are over valuing yourself here and unless you want to test the free market or possibly be traded, you need to come down (mabye he did and this was Cally's plan all along). Plenty of blame on both of them but when Cally ends up signing with Buffalo in the off-season for $4-5 million he is going to look like an idiot for not taking the 6 yr $6 million from the Rangers.

By the way I'm not sure this was mentioned before but it bears repeating: "In Boomer we trust" Boomer Esiason was the first one to break this story that there was an emiment trade sending Cally for St. Louis right after the Olympics. He got it right with Del Zotto and nailed it again with Cally. Clearly he has strong connections in the Ranger organization and when Carton allows him to speak about hockey (nobody cares about hockey boomer), we should be listening! He maybe a football guy, but he is obviously a die hard ranger fan!

In other hilarious news: The isles who gave up Mouslon and 2 draft picks for Vanek, received a conditional second-round draft pick and prospect Sebastian Collberg from the Canadiens in an exchange for Vanek. So in the end they gave up Mouslon and 2 1st round picks for 1 2nd round draft pick and a prospect. Garth Snow, you have outdone yourself yet again!

I still think it was a mistake for the rangers to not go after Moulson. I would not have minded watching Stephan or Boyle go for him straight up.

St. Louis made this all possible along with Cally's agent. I'm disappointed in him and he is a bigger fool if he doesn't immediately fire his agent!

In unrelated news, Broduer is being traded to Minnesota pending his approval according to the WFAN.
1 week ago on Rangers Decline Callahan's Six-Year, $6.3 Million Per Year Proposal
I'm trying not to give in to the hype but this is looking crazy. I would be sad to see Cally go, but at the same time St. Louis would make a nice consolation price.
1 week, 5 days ago on Rangers Asking Price for Callahan
I still have to believe that at the end of the day this is nothing more than a business tactic on Callahan's part. Let's face it, like Lundquist this is Cally's last chance at a big contract so it makes sense to go after every penny he can possibly get even if he is not worth it. Every other person in the world would do the same. No matter what, Sather has a deal on the table for Cally and I have to believe that this is going to go to the 11th hour when either Cally or Sather will blink with one or both moving more toward a reasonable agreement. Fingers crossed. I love Cally but you can't justify that kind of $ this late in his career with the numbers he puts up and I believe he knows that he won't get that kind of contract anywhere else. It all comes down to Cally and whether he is willing to test free agency or stay in NYC for his whole career.
2 weeks ago on Callahan for St. Louis Likely Not Happening; Anaheim Back on Girardi
Not for nothing but Lundquist should be ready to go in terms of jetlag. He is flying West from Russia which means the time zone change is going in his favor. It's when you fly East that you get serious jet lag due to the time zone change as you lose hours with the change. But either way, it still sucks being on a plane for that long.

3 weeks ago on Callahan's Agent Hasn't Spoken to Rangers or Other Teams
According to your logic, every team with just youthful talent should dominate the league and the GMs should just trade away all of it's older players. From a hockey standpoint you couldn't be more wrong. It's unrealistic to think that a team will just trade away any guy who reaches 27 (besides I'm sure a lawyer would have a field day). What type of player would want to play there knowing they will be shoved out in 7 or 8 years. From a business point you forget the impact a solid well loved veteran can have. They selll jerseys, they sell seats, and endorsements (i.e. Dereck Jeter: they yankees didn't have to give him the contract they did. That contract was for 2 reasons: 1) to continue to sell a brand that Jeter has developed for the yankees 2) A thank you for all he has done to help build the Yankees into what they have become. ) brandon Prust was 27 when the Rangers let him go. Most would not tout him as a highly skilled youthful player but more a grinder with a physical toughness most teams would die for. Look the effect that had on the Rangers when they let him go. Sather admitted that had a bigger impact on the team then he anticipated.
I get what your saying and no 1 player is worth more than the team and sure some fans would blindley sign their fav player forever despite better options for him. Is Callahans offer too high? Absolutely. Does this mean the Rangers are better off without him? Depends on what is available for him but in Cally you lose the moral leader of the team and it will have an impact on them. Who would fill that role? Nash maybe....Richards doubtful.
Your assumption that GMs always want youthful talent is laughable when you see what Sather has done over the last decade: Shannahan, Jagre, just to name a few.
Ultimately, I think Cally is trying to draw out as much money as possible because it is probably going to be his last chance to get a big deal and considering what Sather has thrown out in the past (see Redding) I'm sure since he grew up through this team, he feels he is entitled to an overpaid contract. It is his right to go after the money and anyone who calls is greedy is a hypocrite because we all ask for raises at some point in our lives.
3 weeks, 6 days ago on Do the Rangers Need to Exchange "Character" for Skill?
@Kevin DeLury nailed Kevin! Look at what happened with Gabby, Nash and Richards last year.....(granted Richards is not a young player) They never developed good chemistry and it resulted in Gabby being traded. The Islanders had a young team last year and put up a great fight against the Pens forcing their starting goalie to the bench. But how did it end up: The veterans of the Pens dominated and took the series back.
How did Richards, Nash, and Goborik work out? Mismatching talented players does not always create good chemistry especially when Sather is the architect and letting Cally go could have a potentially damaging effect to the chemistry of this team considering he is the heart and soul. He is asking way too much and obviously if Sather could let Messier go why not Cally. At the end of the day I think a deal gets done. I just can't see Cally walking away from this team for one and 2) look at what transpired over the last year. This team rose up and ousted a coach and you can't tell me that Callahan played no part in that, being the captain of this team. So Sather obliges him and a year later is going to trade him? It doesn't make sense. Besides for Sather, what's 1 more bad contract if it keeps Cally for the remainder of his career. He already locked up Hank and despite all logical rational, he won't buy out Richards either. Dolan will never fire him, the Rangers' revenue will continue to rise and so will the salary cap until the next lockout!

It is so frustrating to watch Callahan not capitalize on these opportunities. I just wish he would lift the puck up high on those shots!

@DruBreezay@gravey94I brought my wife and 2yr old daughter at the time to a rangers/sabers game. My daughter loved it. There was a fight and she jumped up screaming! Then Boyle scored late in the third and seeing the look on her face when the Garden erupted is one of those moments that will stay with me forever. However, by the 3rd period she got a little cranky and didn't want to stay in her seat anymore so we left. My son turns 1 next month and I'm hoping to bring them both to a game next year! Have fun!
