So incredibly happy for this entire group of guys. Officially pumped for the season to start!
St. Louis is too funny standing next to these guys - he's like a pocket Ranger!

This was brilliant. Thank you, Kevin and all, for the work you do here. Still don't feel great about the way everything ended but sure am proud, and having this space to come to means the world!

How can he possibly say there is "no doubt" that he Kings want the win more than the Rangers? In what universe could that POSSIBLY be true?

aw man... too late to send in more? was going to re-do mine tonight!

Those gifs make me so happy I could cry. Literally cannot believe this is real but feel like I'm walking on clouds today.

The anxiety stomach ache started as soon as I woke up this morning. If they can't put it away tonight, I kind of feel like they're done... but I've had my doubts thrown back in my face so many time this series, I should probably have more faith than that. I don't know. I'm not strong enough for this crap. PLEASE, Rangers, just win tonight!
And I have to say I am SO UPSET about Prust. He was one of my favorite Rangers while he was here and I was heartbroken when we lost him - was *this* close to getting his name on my next jersey - but he is now enemy #1 and that SUCKS.

This pretty much mirrors everything I thought about last night's game. Never expected a sweep, and we couldn't be on the good side of lady luck forever. They'll come back Sunday with an even greater hunger to win and put this thing to bed, and I'm still pretty confident we'll down the Habs. I just really, REALLY hope it doesn't take 7 games... not sure my nerves can take it.
Re: "I’ve seen plenty of Canadiens fans
defend their outrage by stating Rangers fans would be doing the same
thing if it happened to Hank."
If the exact same thing happened to Hank, I absolutely would NOT be reacting the way they are reacting to Price being out. I mean, I'd be devastated to lose Hank at this stage, but I sure as hell wouldn't be hurling the kind of accusations at them that they're hurling at Kreider - I, and probably many others, would recognize it as an unfortunate accident, just like with poor Brassard. Hockey is a rough sport and people get hurt - this is just awful timing for the Habs, and I feel for them, I do, but they and their sympathizers are being crazy.
It is possible for sports fans to be rational, but in situations like this people seem to lose that ability. Drives me up a wall.

I don't understand how so many people keep pointing to that incident in the series against the Pens as somehow showing that he has a history of intentionally running goalies. He ran into Fleury becase he was clearly pushed.
There is a lot of bitterness going around today from the fans of other teams and its getting under my skin. I think I should just stay off the internet until the series is over, lol.
Here's the thing: they have to keep it up. They've had an amazing couple of weeks and I could not be more thrilled at the way they've come together, but closeness born of tragedy doesn't always last after the tragedy has passed, and emotionally-charged adrenaline won't keep them going forever. We need to see them play like the team they are now for the long haul before I think we can reasonably say that everything's changed.
In the meantime, though, you bet I'll be screaming at the tv tonight and crossing every available appendage that they can keep up their run. They've already made history by getting here, I want to see them make a little more!
What? I'm not crying. Just... something in my eye.I haven't been supportive of the Callahan/St. Louis trade, and I won't go into why because its irrelevant in this situation. But I have never doubted St. Louis as a good teammate and a good person, and it surely does speak highly of him that his team as rallied around him the way they have this week after such a short period of time in New York. His opening goal was probably the most poetically perfect thing I've ever seen in a hockey game, and its obvious the emotion was genuine.
I'm terribly sorry for his loss, but if there's a positive to take away (besides the wins, which feel almost extraneous) its how heartening it is to see how this group of guys can come together to hold up a suffering teammate and elevate the whole team in the process.
I don't even care what happens tomorrow.

That was one hell of a hard-working win. Cannot believe this back-to-back. Looking like this team might prove me wrong and pull together, and I will be thrilled to be wrong.

Not for nothing, but... this was one game. Was great to see them win against the Isles, and I do think they looked decent the last 2 games, but that hasn't sold me on AV, and I'm not going to change my opinion because they pulled off a win. Ask me again at mid-season when their record might actually mean something.
11 months, 4 weeks ago on Maybe Vigneault Is What The Rangers Need
Also, I officially hate AV and want Torts back. I feel like it was sort of unavoidable that Torts was going to go, if the players really were that sick of him, but his system WORKED. This hands-off, uninvolved, silent attitude AV is pushing is just not.
12 months ago on Canadiens 2, Rangers 0
I disagree in some ways - I thought they looked a LOT better tonight than they have in awhile, they were throwing tons of traffic at the net and playing actively, and some of our guys (especially Kreider) got some RALLY good looks at the net, but Budaj was really on his game. They did look sloppy though, like they were spending too much time scrambling/flailing around. I think that may have been somewhat inevitable though - montreal plays like one of those obnoxious swarms of gnats you sometimes walk into in the summer, flying around your head and biting your ears. And I disagree on the allowed goal from Galchenyuk - it sure looked like a distinct kicking motion to me. If they disallowed Miller's goal a couple nights ago, they should have disallowed Galchenyuk's. But I guess that's why these arguments happen, people interpret what they see differently.Someone needs a talking to after that egregious miscall on Kreider. Was absolutely dumbfounded that he got that interference call. I guess if two guys take themselves out even near one of our players, we're going to get called.Look, they weren't great last night, but I think that score would have been different if we weren't killing off BS penalties - took the life right out of the game. Of course, they also dumped themselves in the penalty box several times and deserved it, so that didn't help either.
Last night they looked much more like a real team, as opposed to a bunch of guys who just happen to be playing mediocre hockey at the same time. Was god to see they've got it in them, but they have to be consistent, so I'm withholding judgement until we see if they keep it up for more than one game.
That OT win was pretty damn exciting though - nearly jumped off the couch.

@nyrfan747 Absolutely agree. I dunno if I was watching something different than everyone else but I fail to see how that was legitimately boarding, and I also fail to see how he deserved the 10-minute misconduct. Pouliot actually tried to help the guy and see if he was ok!
Thought the reffing overall was terrible last night. We didn't look good, but the Flyers got some help from the officials. Spent most of the game screaming at the tv.
1 year ago on Flyers 2, Rangers 1
And also I absolutely think we're beyond blaming the coach for everything - I want to see the players start taking some responsibility for things - but, that doesn't mean I have to like AV's approach.
1 year ago on H. Sedin: Torts Interaction Is How You Want It To Be
This is one thing I've definitely noticed about AV that I'm not a fan of - very minimal player interaction during games. Torts was always talking with the players, giving feedback, whether criticism or encouragement, but AV just seems to stand back and lean on the wall and let things happen. Not everyone has the same management style, obviously, but I just don't feel like this hands-off approach he seems to be using is the right one for our team.
What. The. Eff. How much of this season are we going to have to go without Cally?
1 year ago on Callahan Out 3-4 Weeks With Broken Thumb
I'm so depressed about Biron... I hope he gets a chance with another team and doesn't wind up abandoning the game. He's a good guy and this seems so harsh.
1 year ago on Biron, Asham Clear Waivers
And yeah, I don't know why Dorsett wasn't on that list. He'd better at least be benched for the next game or I will officially be questioning AV's decision making. Am trying to give him the benefit of a doubt, but this is all baffling to me.
1 year ago on Biron & Asham Placed on Waivers
Ok, I'm calling BS on waiving Biron. He's a great backup and a positive influence on the bench, and if they're kicking him out because he had a couple of bad games to start (when Hank didn't fare any better) that's garbage.
They actually look completely different than I expected - will be very curious to see them when the Rangers come home next week.
1 year ago on MSG Bridges Ready for Use
Ok, so, I didn't watch the game - Just can't be staying up till all hours of the night when I have to get up at 5am for work - but this is exactly the sort of thing I was afraid of when they kicked Torts out, and it feels like the inevitable result of all the moves they've made over the last couple of years. I feel like everything I loved so much about this team 2 years ago has been destroyed and it depresses me more than I can express.I know its SUPER early int he season and, in all fairness, the team has a lot to adjust to this year. But, I made the same excuses for them last season, and unlike last season they got a full training camp and preseason this year. So, I don't really buy it this time around.I'm not going to be one of those "the end is nigh" fans because they've lost some early games, but I can't say I've got a great feeling about this season, either. I'm just hoping they get their act together and start turning their game around by the time they're back in our time zone.
1 year ago on Nash Knocked Out, No Response from Rangers
@JustinRP37 Yes. Yes. A thousand times, yes.
I just realized I totally typoed, that should say "senator's" not "Senators" - obviously the team didn't make that suggestion! haha.
1 year, 2 months ago on "No Olympics for Team USA" Open Thread - 8/2/13
I wasn't impressed by the Senators suggestion to boycott the Olympics over Snowden; however, with the recent laws Putin's put in place regarding homosexuals, I'm actually beginning to think its a good idea, mostly because any of our athletes or their friends, families, or other Americans going to watch the games would actually be in REAL danger if they identify as gay.I have these images in my head of massive roundups of gay athletes and tourists during the games, and I want to believe that'd never actually happen, but I'm not so sure anymore. its a chilling thought.
@johnnyb3910 This x 1000. What I loved the most about the Rangers organization for the last couple of years was the attitude shift, where they seemed really dedicated to growing the club from the ground up and making long-term investments in young, talented players rather than continually making that mad, throw-money-at-the-problem-and-throw-people-under-the-bus dash to the Cup every season. Sather's "every season without a Cup is a failure" presser scares the crap out of me.
1 year, 4 months ago on How I Want to Remember Torts
Thank you for this, Kevin. I'm genuinely sad to see him go and I'm saddened by all the vitriol being thrown his way. He had his faults (several of them glaringly obvious) but I truly believe he was good for this team and, as you say, he really cared about their success.
Sometimes things just don't work out, and in this case I think everyone is a little at fault. Its not fair to blame Torts for every single one of the Rangers' failings as so many people seem happy to do - most of the players aren't exactly coming out of this season smelling like roses, either.
I hope he lands someplace good and finds success wherever that is, and I hope Sather find someone who can right the ship at home now that he's gone.
I just... I don't even know what to say. I honestly didn't believe this would happen. I understand the reasons, I guess, but I like Torts. Am genuinely sad to see him go this way.

The Stepan goal may have been one of my favorites from the season. Wanted to scream at the announcers on NBC who kept saying "we've now seen two of the weirdest goals we've ever seen", putting it on a level with the Rask fail on goal #1, like it was a fluke - it wasn't weird, it was great! That was one hell of gusty, SMART move by Stepan and it paid off. Give the guy a little credit!
Glad they didn't get swept, but still think their chances of getting out of this round are virtually nil with Saturday's game back in Boston. And honestly, as nice as it would be to see them move on, I don't believe they deserve it. If they can't come out in every single game of the playoffs and play with the kind of grit they did at the end of last night's game, they shouldn't be there at all. I love the Rangers but they have a lot of work to do to get back to where they were last year, and I don't want to see them advance by luck or "magic". I want to see them EARN their place.

I am so depressed today. At the end of last season I had so much hope for this team, but everything that made them great last year - the toughness, the passion, the dedication, the mutual support - seems gone. I don't understand what happened.
Poor Hank... he works so hard and still ends up with dropping stats. He deserves a better team than this.
Last night there were multiple times when all I could think was "when did these guys forget how to play hockey?" Its like they had absolutely no clue what to do with the Bruins, with the puck, or with each other, and I don't understand how that can happen. This is not the same team that beat the Caps. They're better than this.
Or at least, they should be. Maybe they're really not and they just get lucky. I dunno.
I hate to say it, but I just want this to be over.

1 year, 5 months ago on Torts: Capitals Whining Is Why They Lost the Series
Are they serious?? How many obvious penalties did they get away with over the course of the series, and how many did they manage to sell for us? God forbid they admit to just losing control of their discipline in game 7 (because from what I saw that's exactly what happened). And for Ovechkin to even imply that we bought the refs in Game 7 is just slimeball bullshit. I swear, I used to be a huge fan of his, but he's turned into such a colossal jerk in the last few years...
I DO think the officiating was horrid in the series overall, but I don't believe for a second that it favored the Rangers - I'm pretty aware of that kind of stuff because I can't stand the thought of anyone being able to point to referee-assistance as a factor in our ability to win games.
Wow, I absolutely did not pick up on that when I watched the game - embarassing.
1 year, 5 months ago on Ovechkin Doesn't Like to Hustle
I know I never really warmed to him because he wasn't really a "warm" guy - he always seemed sort of detached and unemotional to me. He was a hell of a Ranger in his time, though, and I have to say I don't feel right about how his time with the tam ended. I hope he's successful with Columbus (though not if they're playing against us, of course!)

Who are these guys and what did they do with the Rangers?
Couldn't believe what I saw last night. Hell of a fun game to watch, and sure feels good to beat the Penguins so soundly. Not prepared to get too excited after only one game - thinking the Pens will be PISSED on Friday and will be much harder to play against - but for today at least this feels pretty good.

@jmacwilli That damn "You suck" chant after a goal absolutely makes me see red. Your priorities are seriously effed up if you'd rather belittle the opposing team than celebrate your own team's success. I think they spend more time talking crap about the Rangers than talking about their own players. I get that its a big rivalry and there's a lot of bad blood, but that sort of "fan" gives the rest of us a bad name.
And then they complain about Rangers fans having an attitude.... honestly.

Agreed. Was just talking about this with my guy the other day and it'd be the epitome of foolishness to make any drastic changes to the team or the coaching staff based on this stupid short season. If we don't finish well, lets just put it behind us and start fresh and strong next year.
1 year, 7 months ago on Torts Doesn't Have the Answers
@Melissa (blknblueshirts) If its a choice between Gabby and Cally, I'll take Cally any day. I hope you're wrong about the likelihood of his staying on the team... I might literally cry if we lose him.
1 year, 7 months ago on Can't Get Worse For Gaborik Who Is Available for a Trade
Gabby's had a lot of ups and downs since he joined the team, which means the fans have either loved or hated him accordingly... personally, I've been thrilled when he's played well, but I've always been irritated by the overall attitude for the last couple of seasons that the team's success was riding so much on his shoulders. Thankfully that's lessened a bit with Richards and Nash joining the team, but we have a lot of great players in the club right now and I just don't think he's that crucial.
And I have never, NEVER understood Torts' determination to keep putting him out for shoot-outs when his record has been dismal. I think the repeated failure there probably helped fuel his struggles during regulation time, and that blown penalty shot was just an extension of the same problems. I was actually glad to see him get angry on the bench - I don't normally like to see players throw tantrums but he's usually so damn even-keeled I can understand why people might suspect a lack of passion. That may be the first time I've seen him so openly frustrated.
I don't want to see him go, especially not on a low note, but I also won't be heartbroken if he leaves.
