@Billyho Well, I suppose the defense could score the PP goals (Ni$kanen, Martin) or the second unit could be the scorers.  I agree that it is hard to fathom that their top four goal scorers could go cold and still have the Pens take the series.  I think we have had a few posts from those guys too, so they're close.  I don't see this CBJ team just laying down and rolling over, however; especially not at home.  Tomorrow night will be a real dogfight but they can really put the clamps on the series with a win.  DO IT!

@JayJ32 Are hits in hockey scored like errors in baseball - that is, the home scorer making the calls?  I agreed that CBJ was outhitting the Pens but it didn't seem like a 2-1 margin.  I sensed homerism.

@pawsbyandmeowkin The Pens lead the series 2-1.  Imagine how much worse you would feel if they were LOSING 2-1 heading in to Game 4 at Nationwide tomorrow...

@Adam Macino @PenGeno @Zhan Agree that Columbus is a decent team.

I swear the east-west and south-north passes have to stop.  Crash the net sometime, or even drive it, and good things will start to happen.

As for lucky bounces, I thought they kind of evened out last night.

Finally, shouldn't they be able to take advantage of the Columbus D (read Johnson) crashing down low?  Shouldn't there be an odd man break or two for the taking?

Not just that, but the losing team went up 3-1 each time and gave up three straight each time to lose

Deserves has nothing to do with it. Isn't that the point of this article? First to four, and until CBJ gets there I don't give up.

I know Bilbo is a halfing (seriously, dude is my size and playing in the NHL - hats off to you Gibby) but it did look to me like Johansen gave him an elbow to the head at the end of the collision.  My first thought was concussion.

@Beaube Nett I kept yelling at the TV for them to drive the net but instead they just kept making those durned stupid east-west or (even worse) drop passes.  Those "south-north" passes were like frakking breakout passes to the BJ forwards.  It's not working; stop doing it!

@Bilbo Gibbons I do think the shift to "two D on the PP" threw them off.  Hopefully they will work on that if the coaches keep that change in place.  They MUST win special teams to advance, and I think the PP will score more than it gives up even with the 4F/1D setup

@Gillsucks Yeah, this was clearly a "make-up" for the prior hit gif'ed above.  I have to believe one of two things happened - the ref warned Tanger and he did it again anyway OR Letang figured "this is how they're calling it tonight" and COMPLETELY thought the second hit was okay based on the first non-call.  Inconsistent officiating isn't an excuse but it can be maddening...

@FuxDatAss @cblack66 Winning the Stanley Cup is one of the hardest professional sports challenges.  Like Bylsma or not, in 2009 he took a team that was struggling terribly, turned it around in the regular season and marched them to a Cup championship.

I'm not a huge Disco supporter, but sometimes the players have to get the job done too and that isn't *all* on the coaches.  Even though he had two assists tonight, I can't recall a standout positive play made by Crosby - maybe the cross-ice pass that Kunitz whiffed on?

Hopefully this will be a wakeup call.  I have to believe that these guys thought getting the CBJ in the first round meant a cake walk.  They certainly know they are in a series now.

If the powerplay has an AVERAGE night the Pens win this one going away.  Not to mention the second shortie of the series.  I know the mantra is don't get too high off a win and don't get to low off a loss in the playoffs but the *way* they lost this one hurt.  Not to mention that instead of a stranglehold on the series they now head to Nationwide to play a confident team that is probably getting their 71 back on Monday...

Who would have predicted that Bilbo Gibbons getting hurt would be what turned the series around for Columbus? Crosby REALLY looked off tonight.  Everyone else showed flashes (Neal played a great first OT) but I can't remember a  strong play by 87.  Maybe the crossing pass that Kunitz whiffed on?

@nb15 @KyleSchroeck Besides the Pens, I think the Blues/Hawks is my favorite series so far.

Hearing Steigy and Errey call the antics of Boone Jenner and Jack Skille ("Skilly") was awesome in game 1.  Made me think of a sitcom-drama like the Dukes of Hazzard (Boone and Skilly??)

@PenGeno The actual cannon in the arena is pretty cool, though.  I've seen four games at Nationwide and when that durned thing goes off it is LOUD

@Stillson_14 @Craig Ross While I'll admit that the OT goal looked like Disco Dan ordered MAF to flub it, I'm not sure what game CR was watching on Saturday.  Did he miss the 15 minutes plus without a Phlyer shot?  Three goals in the final five minutes?  The game-tying goal with under a minute left?  The first three-on-three OT I recall ever seeing?

You should make your friend watch every game from the 1996 Eastern Conference Finals when a terrible (swept in finals) Panthers team obstructed clutched and interfered their way to a seven game win over the Lemieux Jagr Francis Penguins. Even as just a hockey fan I know which team I would rather watch....

As the annoying announcers said "as a forward you feel the pressure from the d-man and you go into the goalie and they will never call you for it". Brooks has to be our smart veteran d leader, no?

Stayed up late to watch after hoops. Good lord but that was ridiculous. Very strange game for the Pens. It seemed like the puck was bouncing really strange for the Pens tonight - besides the vomit own goals there were all sorts of weird hops over sticks or like Geno just not being able to knock the puck down with his glove in the Detroit zone with seven seconds left. Very frustrating.
