"We're not celebrating 81 tonight or 82 tomorrow as an endpoint; we're celebrating them as a necessary exorcism before we can get on to the real business of celebrating playoff berths, then living out the tense reality of playoff baseball that's been missing from all of our lives for such a long time."

Yep. THAT'S over with; now we can get to the business at hand, winning the whole effin' thing.

Normally, I'd repeat/paraphrase what has been attributed to Vince Lombardi, 'Bear' Bryant and even Barry Sanders: "Act like you've been there before." But for so many Pirates' fans (not me - I'm old enough to remember '79 & '71), they HAVEN'T been there before, and I'm just as happy FOR them as I am for the Bucs [and myself].

Still, 82 is even MORE important, fan-wise - as will be every subsequent win this year. There's work yet to be done. So, after we all celebrate AGAIN, it's time for us fans to hunker down and get into a Playoff mindset. And believe me, there's nothin' like it.

Didn't see the game (taping last night), but Jones is absolutely HORRIBLE on the basepaths, and has cost the Pirates a run on more than one occasion.

Though it's gallant of Dead-Eye to say that, what hurt was (a) inability - again - to scratch out some runs, and (B) the bullpen. Meek is STILL not 100%, IMO, and oughtta be given the 15-dat DL treatment.

@whygavs Yeah, it's too bad he's not better in the field. I was at the game in Indy when he pulled up lame & went on the DL. He *SMOKED* a double to the L/C gap - the thing probably never got higher than 12 feet in the air - but pulled up 3 steps out of the box, and barely made it to 1B.

In talking to the PR people in Indy, they said Gorkys was the most popular player, initially because people liked his name, then he won them over with his playing. I hope he does well - he's prolly trade-bait, but would net a decent return.

Scott McCauley:

I was at the Indy game Wednesday when Harrison puled his groin. He hit a nice double to the LF/CF gap, but pulled up lame two steps out of the box, and could only hobble to first before calling the trainer out. He didn't have a noticeable limp or anything coming off the field, and I thought maybe he just tweaked his hammy or sumpin' . Bad news, 'cause he hit the snot out of the ball Tuesday night, and I was looking forward to more of the same Weds.
