@The66thDopefish @Hibbits @tramp_stamp Nah, no way it's only a wash.  Our players right now are much more balanced and well-cast than they were last year. Crosby is playing with legit wings.  Comeau is the only player in the top-6 who probably shouldn't be there, and he is proving me wrong almost every game.  Our bottom six is almost completely different, and (at least on paper) is leaps and bounds ahead of what it was last year.

Just without Glass, Vitale, and Gibbons, we are a greatly improved team.

@Zhan @40yearsafter Really?  Since you're talking about playoff scoring, these were our lines for last year's team:

Kunitz - Crosby - Stempniak

Jokinen - Malkin - Neal

Vitale - Sutter - Bennett

Glass - Goc - Adams

Can you honestly look at that, versus this:

Hornqvist - Crosby - Perron

Kunitz - Malkin - Comeau

Winnik - Sutter - Downie

Spaling - Lapierre - Bennett/Adams

and say that we haven't acquired better forwards?  Our forward depth and balance  is so much better than last year it's insane.  The forwards that we are icing right now are bigger, and generally better "playoff-type" players than what we had last year.  Yes, Malkin's line has lost some punch, but the way that they are playing right now is far more suited to playoff scoring.  For Christ sake Stempniak was our first line RW and Vitale was a 3rd line LW!  That's pathetic.

Point is, the forwards are in a much better place than they were last year, and the defense, as Jesse pointed out, is playing pretty well.  I think we should at least be more competitive than last year, but I guess we'll see.

@The66thDopefish @SuperDuper Look at the player usage charts pictured above. That's what I was referring to. Either way, it's no big deal.  Ranting about tPB is about as useful as punching myself in the dick repeatedly.

@jmarshhh @SuperDuper No, it doesn't.  You are right, and this is certainly a great article, as it always is with you (I should have put that in the first post.  You are a breath of fresh air for tPB).  I just find tPB's attitude towards this whole Bortuzzo/Jagr incident to be a bit ridiculous and I was a bit taken aback to see you feed into that as well.

Can we cut this Player 41 crap already?  I understand the Bortuzzo hit was borderline and I can understand arguments from both sides as to whether it was suspendible or not, but this joke is childish and getting old.  I expect that kind of crap from Rich and Derek, but you're better than that Jesse.  You're at your best when analyzing data and providing insight, not stooping to name-calling Jagr ball-sucking that has become a rather annoying tPB staple as of late.
