Another great post Nick!

It rivals your Big Names + Top Content piece you did a few months back and that's saying something.

Slide #3 in your Deck [ social networks vs. content networks ] is the sweet spot for me and SMB's I work with.

The only thing missing is an embedded YT video in your deck that summarizes this excellent "body of work"

All good tips for getting your feet wet with Facebook, Twitter and Google+ and to add to the "what works" bucket, I would include adding #hashtags to your posts and updates and social shares to enhance your findability factor on all three of these tier 1 socials.

Well now Peg, since CopyBlogger announced today they are putting the kibosh on their comments on their main blog, maybe #4 is only for us bloggers with less than 100k unique visitors a week?

No seriously, these are all good points for any Blogger to tighten up. Anything you can do to earn and encourage readers to share your content with their social connections is a strong indicator you're doing something right!

For your readers @ginidietrich who are active on Google+ and who've read and agree with @DavidAmerlandsemantic web search concepts, the way Quora handles the Q&A dynamic is almost ideal for (SME) subjet matter experts to showcase their knowledge and insights. Social Media Marketing and Content Marketing go hand in glove in the digital marketing space. There's such a high noise level in the social websphere that most small business owners find it a challenge to compete with. It takes a seasoned blogger 3-4 hours to publish an A+ article that has the right mix of 500-750 words, 2 alt text images, embedded media (slideshare, YT video) with a decent CTA that will hopefully trigger the normal 2-3% CTR versus a DiT content marketing system whereby one can curate 3-5 trending pieces of content and syndicate this material (with a custom intro/insight) that frames the submission such that the reader will WANT to open, read and share. You have to do BOTH (create original content) and curate quality content to compete these days.

@Tmakillin I use and so do my clients, a combination of Scoop.it and Feedly and a few other curation tactics and syndicate the content to my top socials and flagship WP website. ROI is still fluid and fleeting ;-)

Timely and useful Nick. My key take away and the "punchline" I would address if my review of List.ly is accepted would cover this;

What is a great list? → A great list is one that inspires others to contribute.

One of my best performing lists still ranks on page of Google for "Is social shares the new seo" and has for quite some time.

I would add Scoop.it and Commun.it to this list of SMM automation tool-set.

I like how Commun.it shows me WHO are my most engaged Twitter followers, their most used #hashtags used in their Tweets and how it tracks their social engagement on Twitter, although SocialBro (free or fee) version is pretty handy too. Scoop.it when connected with Buffer App is handy for curation and syndication of content (by Topic). Friends+Me when connected to Google Plus enables one to Post to Plus and share to Li, FB, and Twitter, although the Rebel Mouse rendering sometimes doesn't come out as nicely as when I use manual post/share routine.

@TheSocialSketch My tests show that SocialBro does a pretty good job for analyzing your Twitter accounts and configuring the "best time to tweet" schedule which is only part 1 of the process. What you want to do is sync your Twitter accounts to the Buffer App http://bit.ly/t0Xvox then enable Bro to configure your scheduled Tweets, else going about the manual routine is your option.

Over posting has to be one of the more "over used" tactics in SMM. This is why I let SocialBro scan my Twitter accounts and optimize it for "best time to Tweet" the content I curate from various blogs, forums, news feeds etc.

Pretty strong set of Social Automation tools Doug. I found this post via my Twilert on the topic. Having a list of SMM automation tools is one thing. Knowing how to execute a SMM automation plan and do it in a timely fashion is the challenge most SMB's I work with have to tackle. I would share with you my List,ly page on this, but will hold off until I've figured out how to make it a lot more SMB friendly from a time and ROI perspective. Nice post!

@RobertDempsey I caught your post on my G+ stream. I use your drill down routine and cross-match it against my Jetpack top posts to see which SEO articles appeal to my readers. What I've noticed in GA dashboard is the visit duration of "socially engaged" readers and which social network generates the most "social shares" and "social signals". This is a moving target for me still.

Tony, found your site via your post on my G+ stream. Now that GA is disguising a lot of the KW phrases used to find your site, I also reference AWSTATS data to see the top 20 and the "other" terms used. Will have to look into the WP plugin you mentioned and compare that data feed as well. Nice post!

DIY SEO does have its upside. The problem is, most of the SMB clients I work with, don't have the extra time to invest else their revenue generating time suffers. Still, my mantra is to show them how to "eventually" scale their operation so they can DIY SEO. Glad to see the WP plugins you use are also in my current roster. Strong work!

Its still too early in the game to claim a victor or whether G+ will capture any significant market share from Facebook. The Buzz on the .Net is certainly helping their cause, that's for sure.

In this 1st edition, the G+ Huddles and Hangouts and Spikes and Circles all seem to have the right moving parts for sharing content w/ select people in your social circle, so long as the privacy issues hold their own.

What I'm looking for is how G+ packages and renders a Facebook Fan "site" type web asset? Facebook moved from FBML to iFrame for many reasons. Now, there's a gads of iFrame Facebook site builder app guys hawking all kinds of DIY and recurring monthly fee models.

If Google+ enables Mr. SMB to showcase his value prop w/out the hefty design/build/deploy fees like North Social, WildFire, Hubze currently offer on FB, then the playing become much more level - much more quickly. Rapid adoption will likely happen.
