Unpopular opinion time -
If you take away the 1st game this season against the Ducks where Dupes got 1g,3ass , he's looked much worse this season coming back from his ACL problems than before he collided with Crosby. If he's going to miss this much time, his quality of play will surely decrease even more.
Since he is likely to miss the rest of this season, he will only have played 55 of 164 games the past 2 seasons, that would make it difficult for a young up and comer like Beau Bennett to keep his compete level and quality of play up to NHL standards, let alone a guy Dupuis' age.
If there are any setbacks with this blood clot, he will miss the playoffs as well, which means he'll have played 0 playoff games in that 2 season span as well.
If he wasn't under contract for 2 seasons after this one, i'd have presumed we'd have seen Dupuis play his last game as a Penguin the other night against the Rags.

Let's get this 13-71-72 line going, I want it to stay together.
Oh and also, team defense!

"The Flyers own us" "The Rangers own us"... with the new playoff format we'd better hope we get wild card Atlantic teams in the first round, cause we seem to get "owned" by any semi-decent Metropolitan division team

Terrible advice unless they miss out on McDavid and/or Eichel.
If the Sabres were so keen on trading a high pick for some NHL quality players, they should have done it this past draft/they can still try to move Sam Reinhart.
Seriously it's no knock against Reinhart who could have been drafted anywhere from 1-4, but McDavid and Eichel both would have been chosen over Ekblad had they been available last draft.

This contract is HUGE. Bigger than anyone realizes. This is the contract that is going to define the Sidney Crosby & Evgeni Malkin legacy in Pittsburgh, when the 4 years are up and you're looking back.
The Penguins either win 2 cups before it's over (I think 2 cups in 4.8 seasons is reasonable, LA and CHI recently did 2 cups in 3 seasons each), then this contract was one of the best and/or most important signings in Penguins history, looking back people will call it a "steal".
Or the Penguins could have no more cups in that time span, and at that point Crosby and Malkin REALLY WILL be past their primes at 31-33 years old, with around only 5 years left in the NHL each and only 1 cup for both of them, way back in 2009. We'll have actually really wasted the back half of 87 & 71's 20s, and though I still think they can win in their 30s, players as good as Sid and Geno deserve at least 2 before they turn 30. If guys like Toews, Kane, Kopitar and Carter can do it, surely Crosby and Malkin can.
Anyone can argue with me about the importance of the contract if you want, but it won't change the fact that it's the truth. I hope GMJR, Burkle and Mario 66 were right in what they were doing here.

They are both in a race to the bottom.
Carolina might have just won their first game, but Buffalo had been shut out 4 times before we played them, then we gave them number 5.
Carolina has only been shut out once, to Calgary.
If the lottery doesn't butt fuck them, one should get McDavid, the other Eichel

Staff, I know I got down on you guys last time, so I figured this time I'd come back with some positives.
The "Mike Johnston Reactions" are fast becoming my favorite thing of this new season. His reactions are so minor, it's pretty hilarious to see them under a microscope like that.

It's very easy to read the original post and not come to the comments, look at my comment history for instance, I read every recap, but only comment when I feel I have something I want to say.

I suppose "saved" was the wrong term for it.
The whole Bylsma Era has taken a toll on you guys, it's taken a toll on me too, of course, but I'm not the one who writes a blog that people actually like to read.
Like I said in my reply to brendannn, I've been around tPb since the 2006-2007 season and I'm not going anywhere.
I was the one who mentioned Stoosh, not brendannn.
And if you were indeed replying to me, this is the first time I've "run you down"
@brendannn @Non I'm definitely already all over /r/hockey and /r/penguins .
I will always have a soft spot for tPb though, I subscribed and read even back when it was a blogspot.
Not sure if losing Stoosh has hit Adam and Derek really hard, or if so many seasons of Danny Balls playoff chokes has turned them into crotchety old men, but I really hope they turn it around and get back to their blogging roots.
Jesse Marshall is going to save this blog.
After reading that abomination of a recap where Derek and/or Adam STILL managed to piss on Adams and fellate Jagorim Jarg, this is exactly the kind of stuff I like to read.
Jesse, kudos on the good work.
So, a fourth liner? Got it.

I'm no Craig Adams fanboy, but I understand 35+ contracts, so you either trade him (unlikely) or let him play out his contract and don't re-sign him.
Sending him down or scratching him is fucking dumb, particularly since he plays on the 4th line and probably at most 8 mins a game.
How big of a difference will some one like Adam Payerl or Zach Sill make playing 8 minutes with Adams' cap hit still counting against us? Probably none
Thank jesus jones that Steve Downie only takes dumb offensive zone penalties when there's really nothing going on in the game.

This team, in my opinion, is a top 6 goal scoring winger who is NOT Beau, and a right handed 2nd pairing defensive defenseman away from being REALLY REALLY good.

Wow. You get really emotional after a loss. My art must have really struck a chord with your soul for you to type out TWO WHOLE PARAGRAPHS to me.
Since I included no comment with the posting of my picture, I don't understand how you came to the conclusion that I don't blame the entire team for this loss, because I do.
I just saw this particular shot and found it pretty hilarious. I mean, look how he's trying to make that save. He's covering...maybe... 15% of the net, that's like 85% open net for Read to shoot at. His entire left leg is still outside the net. Tyler Seguin would have burned Fleury with a glazed donut with him trying to make the save like that.

Debuting a new third jersey, check.
Penguins doing solid and the Flyers doing terrible, check.
This has all the makings of the Flyers playing killjoy for us, so I'm hoping these Penguins break that expectation and deliver another blow to the Flyers pitiful season start.
Flyers fuckin' suck.

I also shouldn't discredit what Jussi Jokinen brought to that line as well. 21g, 36a, and only 21 power play points of those 57.
6 months, 1 week ago on Conversation @ http://thepensblog.com/2014-archives/snapshot-pens-stand-up-to-isles-win-3-1.html
The Penguins are doing "Just Fine" without Neal because the 14-87-72 line has 22 points in 4 games.
The second line, Malkin's line, looks considerably worse than last year. As someone who watches Malkin closely, I think he's been getting most of his points playing on the PP with 14-87-72-58.
4 games into the season, with a record of 3-1-0 is a little premature to be saying something like that
Craig Adams is on a 35+ contract.
Even if we waive him, we will still be on the hook for 600k of his 700k (we only get 100k in cap relief) unless we actually trade him, and what team would actually trade with us to get Adams or Scuderi?
So in reality, it's the Ghost of Ray Shero that keeps CFA on this team, not Mario or Burkle

When the entire Penguins fan base had raging boners for Kulemin and Grabovski, I said they weren't the kinds of guys you want on a playoff team.
Guys that want to play playoff hockey and contend for the cup, don't sign for big money to play on NY Isles.
Guys that just want to make as much money for themselves, sign for big money to play on the NY Isles, each one of those two guys are SET for the next 4-5 years making millions toiling in mediocrity.
Fuck Nikolai Kulemin

Think of the positives, now, even me, someone who went to the "Mike Milbury School of Hockey" can understand that we are pretty set when it comes to intense but under skilled players.
No more Ott for me :(
Someone put tPb user Hibbits on suicide watch after this signing.
Love the term on this signing (1 year) and can't be too upset at the monetary compensation either
Steve Downie is now a Penguin.
You gearing up for a bridge jump, ol' Hibbits?
We have one guy who plays with an edge to his game, looks like we're stuck playing a grinding style this year
9 months, 4 weeks ago on Conversation @ http://thepensblog.com/2014-archives/free-agency-so-far.html
"SPEED kid SPEED"
Oops, I forgot guys like Crosby, Sutter, Gibbons, Megna and Stempniak were as slow as molasses for us. We clearly had no speed last year... My mistake.
As a Penguins fan living in LA (LOL at you calling me a yinzer) I watched the Stanley Cup Champion LA Kings get out skated and out hustled by the Ducks then Blackhawks, then Rangers respectively, buy we all know who actually won that cup, right?
Any team with Crosby and Malkin on it simply won't be a grinding team, but that doesn't stop a good GM from assembling a solid varied team with a few grinders on it to compliment your skilled guys.
The Kings aren't a grinding team, yet they employ guys like Kyle Clifford and Jordan Nolan, tell me why, oh wise Hibbits that Dean Lombardi is a thoughtless idiot who doesn't subscribe to your "SPEED kid SPEED" philosophy.
I hated Bylsma after the Flyers clown show in 2012, his unwillingness to make adjustments, but I'd rather go with him than to let people like you get their wish and get Nikolai "No Show in the Playoffs" Kulemin on this team for 4mil a year because he's buds with Malkin
10 months ago on Conversation @ http://thepensblog.com/2014-archives/free-agency-so-far.html
Also signed Chicago Wolves dman Taylor Chorney, one year, two way, likely a WB/S signing
Goc coming back to Pitt. 1.2mil AAV
I agree Rico, Downie would be a great consolation prize if we can't get Otter. We definitely need someone to mix it up and grind. I still would really like Ott if we ran him on the third line and the price was right. 2mil or less and I'd do it
Why don't you simply ask a Blues fan how they feel about Ryan Miller and Steve Ott?
They all hate Ryan Miller, but love Ott, and this, even before Miller signed in Van.
I hate Scuderi, if you read my post about wanting Ott and Greiss, I said we should trade Scuderi for whatever we could get, 7th rounder, bag of pucks, etc.
Craig Adams, don't like him, but he's a fourth liner, why would we even put so much significance on upgrading a guy that plays at most 5 minutes a night.
You're telling me to look at Ott & STL in the playoffs? I bet you were one of the people who wanted Kulemin simply "because he is friends with Malkin"... hah...now Kulemin is a guy who REALLY sucks in the playoffs
@Hibbits @Non I never knew that one Steve Ott was equal to an entire BUNCH of actual GOONS.
you're just making his value rise in my eyes, man! Steve Ott 2014 3rd line LETS GO
@Hibbits @Non Yes, with Orpik and Engelland gone i'm sure Crosby and Malkin will have no problems on the ice from teams like the Flyers and Bruins, in fact, i'm sure those teams will actually double up on Kunitz, Hornqvist and the ghost of James Neal so that Crosby and Malkin will have infinite skating space out there to just do whatever they want and nobody will ever frustrate those guys and throw them off their games like they've done to them in every playoff series since 2009.
Go on Hibbits.
In the "Free Agency could be fun" thread I asked for Ott and Greiss!
We got Thomas Motherfucking Greiss!
Ott still unsigned and a possibility!
Ehrhoff and Comeau are bonuses. I really like the Comeau signing as long as he's signed to play bottom 6 and not top 6.
I want Steve Ott & Thomas Greiss most out of free agency.
I want a trade for a top 6 winger to play with Malkin & Hornqvist and not have to sign Kulemin
I want the Penguins to trade Scuderi to anyone willing to take him.
I want Bennett to start on the Third line this season with Sutter/Spaling or Sutter/Ott and him have to earn his increased role, he would also add some punch to our bottom 6.

I sure hope I am, but I've watched enough hockey over the past 22 years, and have been commenting on tPb since c blog was actually c blog, and I know enough about Kulemin and Grabovski to know they're not the type of players this team needs.
I will sit here patiently twiddling my thumbs while someone, anyone can link me YouTube examples of Kulemin or Grabovski's character, grit, toughness and ability to step up their game in the NHL playoffs while I sit here sobbing into my Kasparitis jersey

Sorry to be the buzz kill in this thread, but when we're getting excited about signing former Leafs like Kulemin and Grabovski, this team is in a sad state right now.
I sure like how well Kulemin and Grabovski showed up in the playoffs in 2012-2013 when they collapsed to the Bruins after holding a 3-1 lead.
That's exactly the kind of guy this team needs. ...
Malkin is score sometimes )))))))))))

All the problems? The problem starts with Bylsma, continues through our shoddy defense, and right into our playoff choker extrordinaire in net. But if you would have read my original comment, I wouldn't have to say it again
Thank you, most Pens fans are still blinded because how he played in 2008 and 2009
I'd take Zatkoff, Hartzell, Vokoun, pretty much anyone who isn't top tier regular season and only better than Ilya Bryzgalov in the semis of the playoffs
Don't worry dude, this next trip to the sports psychologist or the next goaltending coach change will fix him right up
2 fucking GA on 20 SOG? !?!
I want Bylsma gone as much as the next guy, but WE really need a new fucking goalie Pens fans.
I know it's not all on MAF, the team defense and our coach's implemented system are the major factors, but Fleury is definitely a part of the problem.
Sports Psychologist again, right?
@DaveGapsky @Non @jlavalle
No doubt Henrik was a monster last night, and he was definitely serviceable in game 1 (though I don't think he played as good in game 1 as game 2). But lets not forget those stats ring against Bobrovsky too, who, while he is a great goalie, had a terrible series against Pittsburgh. That series against Columbus felt a lot like the series we lost against Montreal, except they had Halak playing out of his god damn mind.
I love Crosby and i'm willing to just shrug off his 'slump' while we're winning games, but just like when MAF fucks it up, though I like the player, I won't shy away from criticizing them. I think the only Penguin I never criticize ever is James Neal. I feel like if other fans hate him, it's good to have a player like that on our team, getting under other players and fans skin. Plus I remember how Geno's line looked before Neal was there and the world just gets dark and cold, so Nealer always gets a free pass from me ;)
