With all the bad turnovers and the new tripping penalty- Letangs gonna rack up some serious PIMs this year.

@Breno I guess with Tanner Glass and Joey V gone they needed to fill the void.

Nice to read something that's not about advance stats and over 120 words on here.
Watching Malkin push Couturier down like a bitch made my morning.

I hated Arron Asham until he played for the Pens, so maybe Carcillo will grow on me, but I doubt it.

@Hibbits Settle down negative Nancy. Anytime you don't NEED to go under the knife, is a good time.
I just saw Mike Rupp is still an UFA... Always liked him ( And Asham) when they were Pens.
2 months, 1 week ago on Conversation @ http://thepensblog.com/2014-archives/heres-matt-niskanen-in-a-caps-jersey.html
I'm not sure why people are freaking out about this line up...
1st line = Same as last year + healthy Duper ( Hopefully he is back to form ) They have always done well above average together.
2nd line = Geno + Healthy Bennett ( Hopefully for more than a 7 game stretch ) + Someone who doesn't need Malkin spoon feeding him goals. Neal had a fabulous shot, no doubt about it, but other then that he was basically DOA. Every time Neal had the puck longer then it takes to fire a wrister, he lost it. He was garbage when it came to wall work, stick handling, and puck possession. Garbage. Period. I know very little about Hornqvist, but from all accounts I've read, I would take him in a 7 game series over Neal any day.
3rd Line = Sutter (Who was coming into his own towards the end of last season ) + Downie ( Who with Tocchet as a coach could be a very good 3rd line winger ) + Spaling ( I have no idea about this guy, but from what I read he isn't a huge liability )
4th Line = Goc who is very solid for a 4th liner IMO. Adams ( You know what you get at least ) + Megna or Comeau ( Both Solid players ). Not Tanner Glass.
The defense is a wash compared to last year as far as I'm concerned.
No it's not perfect, and there are some "Who fucking knows?" but, I'll ride with this team till trade deadline and see what happens.
On top of all of that, this GM and HC have publicly said they will hold players accountable. I can't imagine how far that could take a player like Geno and Letang. Think of Geno pissed off because he got bitched out in first intermission.
All I can say is- I feel better about this line up then I did at the beginning of the 2013 season.

@cblack66 Where did Engo go?
@dannyjimmy That makes perfect sense... They liked Asham enough to bury him in their minor league team last year, so now they decide to pick up Glass... Rupp also comes to mind.
@cblack66 Ehhh.... If you play your cards right you may actually get JR to pay ya for him.
@cblack66 Florida seems like a perfect fit for him.
@HYJYNX I keep seeing where Nisky turned down the offer from Tampa of 7 million for 7 years.
@dmacpgh I haven't seen anything on Orpik yet?
@dmacpgh Even though it would never happen, I still think Iggy playing in his correct position with a full training camp behind him would be lights out for the Pens.
He would have to come on the cheap though.
There for a second it sounded like you guys have a story involving Neal and a certain white powdery substance...?

@Midnight Rider @FuuManChuMan I completely agree, but when someone is in his position, they need to project the impression of a competent leader.
He has failed horribly in that aspect, and him being the face of the penguins management, it has furthered the public sentiment that they are in a tailspin.
2 months, 4 weeks ago on Conversation @ http://thepensblog.com/
@Midnight Rider I agree with everything you said, but the problem is with the way he's handling it from a PR standpoint.
I agree he walked into a shit storm of a job, but there is absolutely no reason to be this transparent with the public about the issues he needs to resolve.
From this point on- Everyone knows the coach he finally hires was a 2nd or 3rd round option.
I've never heard upper management give so many damaging "Tidbits" to reporters before.
Maybe Jim isn't conditioned to realize that what he says will be reported in Pittsburgh....Just SHUT THE FUCK UP ALREADY.
Acceptable quotes are below...
Tenure as GM:
"The topic of length hasn't come up yet, but I expect to be here as long as it takes to make this team competitive again, and perhaps mentor some of the promising employees currently in the origination for the next step in their careers"
"We have interviewed many quality coaches, but haven't found the one we envision leading this team yet. I'm sorry, but the applicants names will not be released at this point."
"We have been in close communication with his agent, and things are progressing as planned."
"We feel confident we can get some quality players- be it through the draft, or via trades." ( Sly Wink)
I don't understand the reasoning behind everyone hating on Pierre. Sure he is a little creepy, but it's hard to argue his knowledge of the sport.
Everyone hates David Morehouse because he's an executive prick who shouldn't be allowed to make hockey related decisions, yet Pierre knows as much about hockey as anyone around and he's too "embarrassing" to be held in serious contention for the job.
I wouldn't mind seeing what he could do with the team, but I've only been a fan for 6 years so maybe I'm missing the obvious issues here.

@Quote_The_Birdman Agreeed. If that is the worst play TPB stafff can find from Vitale, I think it's safe to assume he played better then 18 other Pens dressed in game 7.

@Mr. Confidence @FuuManChuMan @BringBackBeukeboom Ever been to North Carolina? I've lived all over the country, and haven't found a better place.
College Station Texas was close though.
@Mr. Confidence @FuuManChuMan @BringBackBeukeboom yeah, I guess a little Western. I would never live in Kansas, but I enjoy the hell out of vacations out there. I go back every Christmas and opening weekend for pheasant hunting.
@Mr. Confidence @BringBackBeukeboom 90% of my family live in central Kansas.
Hays, Ogallah, Salina, Dodge City, Witchita, with a few smaller towns spread in.
@BringBackBeukeboom Cathartic: Condition of an arthritic cat.
@pawsbyandmeowkin @FuuManChuMan I'm sure they would say Sid, but I don't see him do anything that is deserving of being a captain.
He is far and away the best player in the world, and a great asset to the pens both on and off the ice, but can you see him ever cracking the whip or getting players in line? If anything they feed off his sometimes childish antics.
I would love to see Paul M, Nisky, Duper, or even Sutter to a lesser extent step up and run the show.
I feel like those guys have respect across the league, and not just because of their skill.
@Zhan Yeah, but that isn't a fair comparison. Buffalo doesn't have anyone that is worth being a captain.
Edit: Maybe put the captaincy up for grabs next year and let the true leaders in the room play for it? Maybe Disco needs to go back to the drawing board and come up with a re-vamped game plan? Starting with REAL accountability for ALL the players?
Or... Win tomorrow night and have all this talk flushed down the toilet.
As much as I hate the way this team plays in the playoffs I can't help but worry about blowing apart upper management. We saw what happened to the Flyers, Canucks, and Caps... They were decent teams that just couldn't get over that last hump (Just like the Pens), so they got dissected into what they are today. Are they any better?
I think the team needs a kick in the ass, but no clue what would get it done. I hate to say it, but if Lavy was still on the market, I wouldn't mind seeing him take HCDB spot. As much as I hated him as the flyers bench boss, he seemed like a pretty decent coach.
I've always enjoyed the podcasts, but never understood why they come so few and far between.
Great way to pass an hour while working.
