Primarily a follower of the WBS Penguins, but over time, my support of the Pittsburgh Penguins grows and grows.
"I had the good sense to block every last one of those weirdos who track new Hall voters in an attempt to bullying them into making the ballot to their liking."
This is a little disturbing...that people not only go out of their way to track those who get Baseball HOF ballots, but also try to, um..."convince" them to vote a certain way.

I've had enough Nick Johnson cases for a while. Keep Strait and Bortuzzo in PIT. They've done all they can in WBS. Send us back Despres (ALLEZ ALLEZ ALLEZ) and let's get this going.

@akus I doubt we'd get Grapes. But hopefully NHLN will continue its practice of simulcasting the HNIC 7 pm games on Saturday nights, so we might get Grapes on there. Heck...if we get lucky, maybe they'll tag on the 10 pm games too.

That was the game that, despite unreal snow in the capital and the Penguins traveling in from a game the night before, neither Washington nor the networks wanted to move, wasn't it? Dammit, now all the anger I felt in the lockout has morphed into rage against the Capitals.
But anyway...if Knuble can hang with Malkin and Neal, I say why not give it a shot? Especially if the cost is low.

@BGW The 1:00 game is Chicago at Detroit. PHI/PIT at 4 on NBCSN, followed by WSH/NYR at 6:30 on NBCSN. The day concludes with LA/SJ on NHLN at 10:30.

Zero. NBC already has a game set for 1:00 that afternoon. NBCSN has the PIT/PHI game at 4.
This is lower than anything Philadelphia has ever done. You cannot argue this point with me. We should all be ashamed for all eternity that this happened.

I believe the Penguins found a tactical advantage in this matchup during Game 2...an extreme commitment to the concept of "grinding bitches down". Not to mention Brad Thiessen flashing the form that brought him the Bastien Award in shutting out the Checkers.
Crank up the hitting on the road, and we've got just as good a chance as any to steal a road game.

Looking at the nominees, the Jack Adams this year turns into a discussion over what decides "best coach". Is it purely and simply the most points (Vigneault), or is it the points put up relative to what the coach has to work with (Disco/Trotz)?
3 years, 12 months ago on Dan Bylsma Nominated For Coach Of The Year | TPB
The burden now falls to the farm clubs to bring some true hardware to the Penguins organization this season.
I was trying to distract myself during last night's shenanigans, so I looked up the dates on which the Pittsburgh and WBS seasons ended over the last few years. This is the first time in three years that WBS has outlasted Pittsburgh on the calendar. The last time it happened was 2008, and that was by six days. PIT lost their SCF Game 6 on June 4, while WBS lost their CCF Game 6 on June 10.
If there is any hope at all, the Penguins will win tonight. Enough of this "Cardiac Penguins" bullshit. It's high time WBS grabbed their collective sac (thanks, Evason, for that line) and took command of a playoff series right from the outset.
Get it the fuck done.

@luke2 Two, technically. The folks in Wheeling won Game 7 of their Round 2 series in OT last night, so they're onto round 3...I think.
It cannot go unmentioned that Norfolk played Game 3 without two of its biggest guns, Mattias Ritola and Blair Jones. Both were called up to Tampa Bay due to Downie's suspension and Malone's possible injury. Both will likely be out of the lineup again for Game 4, and according to JB's blog, the effect of "grinding bitches down" is showing on Norfolk, who after Game 3 boasted only seven healthy forwards.
Keep it up.

The WBS Penguins are 0-0. First team to 16 wins takes home the prize. That's all that matters now.
I've been following this team to varying degrees pretty much since its inception in 1999, and this is easily the best chance we've ever had to bring the Calder Cup home. The Penguins need to take this opportunity now, because none of us know if such a grand opportunity will come by again.
It starts tonight. Let's do this.

If we're talking about simply series eliminations, this is a good collection. But no discussion of playoff heartbreak can go by without mentioning Keith Primeau in the fifth overtime...though, that was a single game.
Man...PIT was up 2-0 that series and gagged it all...
A few quotes on this game, courtesy of Jonathan Bombulie of the Citizens' Voice:
Braden Holtby, on the Veilleux slash: “That’s going to be a really lengthy suspension...Probably in the ballpark of Marty McSorley, I would think. It was a blatant two-hander right to the chin. You need to get that stuff out of hockey.”
John Hynes, on the Veilleux slash (before the suspension was handed down): “I don’t think he’ll actually get a suspension...It was just a play. They were going back and forth on the ice. It was really minor. Pinizzotto was back on the ice two minutes later, so just a minor play. Referee made a good call, five minute, and it shouldn’t be anything too significant.”
Veilleux himself: “We’ll see what happens. I cannot control that. I don’t think I was dirty. Maybe I will be suspended, but I will deal with it.”
Pinizzotto after the suspension was handed down, to the Harrisburg Patriot News: "It was just a blatantly dirty play...He came across, like, right over the top of my neck-face area. You see what the NHL is doing in suspending guys for a lot of games. To give a guy only two games like that, you’re not really teaching him anything. … It was just a blatant head shot. Two games for that is kind of ridiculous.”

@deleted_11399_walterflanagan @SaintMarty @Mallori I'll take Tampa. Ryan Miller scares me in net, and we've seen what the Montreal trap can do to the Penguins.
@LittleArtie @deleted_11399_walterflanagan I think Veilleux could definitely get a look next year. Ridiculous skills, plenty of sandpaper to his game, but I've seen him fly off the handle a few times. If pests like Pinhead can get under his skin, he'd be easy prey for the Sean Averys of the NHL.
@deleted_11399_walterflanagan Go to citizensvoice.com and read Jonathan Bombulie's recap of the game. Check out the quotes from Holtby, then go rinse your brains with bleach.
I guess Veilleux took a two-handed slash at Steve Pinizzotto (whose name I can't spell, so I call him Pinhead), which caused one of about 289347792 ruckuses last night.
For whatever reason, the games against Hershey seem to devolve into shit-shows much more than against any other team.
Is it normal for a scoreboard clock to be running during a shootout? I don't think it is.

What strikes me in that goal sequence is that it took the Chicago announcers a good three minutes of wait time to finally notice (or acknowledge) the Hossa kick. They were clearly hoping for a short review so they didn't have to talk about it.

I was really hoping we'd get to this game on the Island without it having any significant impact on playoff seedings. Boy, was I wrong.
Pittsburgh has had zero success on the Island this season. Shootout loss the first time, and Crosby's point streak ended. (I think that was a shutout, too.) Second time...nine goals against and a massive shit-pile. Time to make amends.
Ten goals on the board, boys, or you're doing it wrong. Bury Islanders.
