airlines "can" get a bum deal sometimes I think.....  they have to put on a service that is 100% safe and pleasant for all in a standardized format - the seats all have to be the same size / the space between the seats have to be the same size, the food has to be relatively standardized.......  when their customers feel that they deserve a personalized service (more leg room for my 7' 6" uncle (#madeupfamilymembers) and wheat free bread for my health conscious aunt (#seeearlierfamilyreferecne).  All whilst trying to turn a profit when the biggest costs (Tax and Oil) are controlled by others (govt and the real world powers!)

Most other industries have more scope for flexibility and less issues with failure (the plane HAS to work!) - so when I travel, maybe my standards drop a little (we are FLYING "!!" eek - after all).

Having said all that (and no - I do not work for an airline, never have, and probably never will) - the points you make still 100% apply and there are some good airlines out there who are fun to fly with - and some disastrous ones who fill me with dread at their name...

Sadly - Europe's flight success story - ryanair - bases its business model on deliberate poor customer service (to keep customer costs down).....  The world's current modus operani of "Pile em high and sell em cheap" - seems to work!!

Identity Theft etc is scary stuff...  I had an issue a few years ago where the credit report folk told me I had a problem - but did not know what it was or how it had appeared...  I used the "hide under the duvet and hope they go away" defense technique - and in the end, it seems, that approach worked.

But like you say - tech savvy (or at least privacy aware) folk are easily messed with - so gawd help those that are in the dark - there is minimal good knowledge or expertise to competently deal with a determined thief (witness NY times)....  And nowadays - the plots get more complex, and the folk get more clever...

Who knows....  Spin Sucks...??  The greatest long game in corporate fraud ever.....???  Could be - after all Gini Dietrich = surely made up name....??

Ola - I reckon there are probably two ways of looking at it.....

If you set out to build your business in a positive / dynamic / successful manner and your personality is to the fore / a key part of that process - then your personal brand will help your business grow...  Your bubbly, charismatic self will inspire those around you and undoubted riches await....

If you set out to build a personal brand - and expect a business to thrive around it - then (as they say in Bizzarre Inc Mansion) - you'll be playing with knives...

PS -  There have been some pretty successful recluses over the years as well- so it takes all sorts for sure.

PPS - Training update - for some reason 2013 seems to the Arab Year of Ice Cream - motivation needs a boot up the ***

@Claire Celsi  @Nic_Cartwright for sure the current spin is that he is guilty....

I am not a huge cycling sport fan (though I love to do it myself) - though I am a big sports fan...  I strongly believe that drugs have no place in sports (I even had to sack a player once for drug use) - but I have not read the evidence - and have no idea what the facts are - I do know however that there is a small chance that he might not be guilty after all as stranger things can happen in sports/politics.  Hence my question to Gini about "what if"....

I am a big fan of the power of sports (and its heroes) to positively impact on culture and society - and it breaks my heart when sportsman abuse this power (Lance or otherwise)

Tough one this....  (tbh I come from a world where no one can read my handwriting - my Klingon upbringing remains private).....  But the world moves on - and 400 years ago, Shakespeare has his own rules...  The pace at which we adapt gets quicker each year - and whilst English is the language that dominates currenly - I keep hearing that even that will come to an end as the world's dominnat business language???

Adapt to your environment, keep your own standards high.  And as I have proved by assimilating into my own new environment - work hard at understanding your customers in the language they understand...

I think there is more to this than meets the eye.......  Just for a second - image if....

If - Dave Cote's name were actually Clark Kent.

If - Mike Elk (surely made up name) was actually called Lex Luthor.

No one knows Rob Ferris' real name but it sounds like he could be a mild mannered janitor type character  - but IF  he saw that Mike/Lex was carrying a strange green-ish glowing rock like substance and was walking towards his boss/hero/saviour of mankind with a menacing "I have the one thing that will bring you down" kinda look on his face.....

Then his actions (Rob / whoever he is / I for one for his actions to save the Man of Steel) take on a whole new light.

Sadly we will never truly know what happened in this room that day (though the other reports / live video feed seem to give a reasonable depiction) .......

Provided there is no slight/injury/etc - then groups of people should be allowed to run their own little clubs (men only / women only etc etc)....  However - where there is such a huge financial gain / where there is such a public support of an event / where that club is asking for support from the Golf Association / from TV / from sponsors etc etc - then they need to play 'by the rules' - and our rules (2012) version mean that we shoudl all expect equal treatment....

The USPGA should tell them they can keep their course woman-free - and then the event should be moved elsewhere - as USPGA should be an equal opportunity event...

Sadly golf is one of the key bastions for ongoing 'non-equality' - so don't hold any breaths..,...

3 points spring to the front of my brain on this Wednesday (for USA think Friday) Omani morn....

1 - I just love the fact that you are a College for the wannabemarketeers of the world (no disrespect to anyone with the use of that word - we all come here to learn - and you are defo one of our favorite teachers!!).  I love the approach to running your business and I really enjoy hearing about your plans / successes.

2 - So if Gini is a fraction of Andy in the Content Marketing equation....  Let's say G = A/5???  Then Nic needs to get on some of them Content Marketing Protein powders as N = (A-G)/100

3 - On Thursday at that time I am half way up (or maybe down) a big mountain in the Omani desert.  And despite recent forward steps in online accessibility in the region - I am pretty sure my wifi won't work there!!  Will look out for the download option...

Tata - and enjoy our weekend....

wow - way to lay down the bare facts  - love the honesty.....

I have worked for a sports club that went into administration (Chapter 11 in USA??) - we lived by your "cash is king mantra" for years (knowing that bankruptcy would get us eventually).... - it's kinda fun having to juggle weekly/daily (to stay alive) - maybe not fun - but a challenge - and we like them...

especially for entrepenurial businesses - it's a great skill to have - and  a great base to build from - you really appreciate the power of cash - and make sure your business is set up to generate it....

ps - also been there with you on the self sacrifice on the wages.....  I hope you caught up!!

I understand why we need this type of regulation, but #frustrationabounds so rant mode activated ..... .......So you have to disclose if you do something for someone.... But Is there any real difference b/n advising someone how to do it and doing it for them?? I am working in a country where the regulatory process is very different to the modern western "civilization". My career back home was riddled with 'battles' with legal folk about what was allowable / sensible. My forehead is now harder than titanium thanks to my frequent "head slaps of astonishment". I am pretty sure there is a line that one should not cross. I am very sure that line is impossible to accurately define. I am certain that line has been pushed too far in favor of overkill in many areas of businesses. Remember when everyone had common sense!!
