@KyleSchroeck @TPBadam Yeah, but only if that moon is a waxing gibbous.
@MikeS I agree, his play pisses me off.... I'd love for him to be a Penguin (similar to Kasparatis).
@dvo If he put on a turtle neck he would look like a busted condom. I'd like to stab him in the face with a goalie stick and see what his reaction would be.
An excerpt from a Puck Daddy article I read a few days ago on why Montreal hired Therrien:
"Thus, no other sport has the coaching template of the NHL, in which the hard-ass is hired, then fired for the "players' coach," who is then fired for another hard-ass, until he's fired for that nice assistant coach that has an occasional beer with the players, until he's fired for the sergeant from "Full Metal Jacket."
Therrien coached this team to the finals, then Bylsma came in and released the shackles, putting them over the top. The years roll on, and the results have been disappointing ever since, especially in the playoffs. The apparent inability to beat the Flyers I think is key in seeing the flaws in the coaching of this team.
I'm not bridge jumping, tonight's game is whatever, but if they follow the classic Flyers game template on Thursday I am writing the team off for this year, and going to go over the top and say it's time to bring back a "Full Metal Jacket" type coach. At least for the next year or two.
I remember sitting with my family at the Stroll Inn in Kennedy Twp (Robinson Twp's little sister) when Bob Pompiani showed up. After he didn't get service immediately him and his family got up and with a disgusted look on his face left. Ever since then I've thought he was a douche bag.
I think the Letang no call was the even up for that boarding call. It was clearly interference. However, the dickhead between the bench thought otherwise... I think he said "Letang is entitled to the ice just as much as -insert name here- is." Ok Pierre, basically if your statement were true then there's no such thing as interference.
Staff in regards to the 5 on 3 penalty : "Letang for playing hockey"
That was Craig F'n Adams I think... Letang has no PIM last night on the stat sheet. The Craig penalty stuck out and I thought someone would mention...
If you have the ability to watch the hit on that second penalty (resulting in the Stamkos goal), it was a boarding by CFA. Watch as the two of them are going for the puck. CFA knows he's going to plow whatever joke is in front of him, so as a courtesy he taps him on the left side with his stick. I believe this is universal for "I'm going to hit you, so don't turn your back and prepare to get hit." The weasel TB player of course puts himself in the most vulnerable of positions and draws the penalty. I think you deserve to break your neck if you get a warning that you're going to get plowed and purposely put yourself in a bad spot.
That Vokoun gif is probably the best gif of all time. How shitty he feels for letting that goal in. And he looks up just in time for the score to change.
Just a bad night for Vokoun... but his team and coach let him down too. A goalie might steal a game once in awhile, and sometimes he loses the game, just how it goes. However, the game loss as a whole not completely Vokoun's fault, they lost as a team.
My two cents:
The glaring coaching problem of the inability, or unwillingness to adapt is a HUGE issue. It seems like the Flyers have figured out the Bylsma system, and have been picking it apart for the past two years. The refusal to adapt lost them the playoffs last year and it cost them the game last night. Last night was identical to the playoff series of last year.
The Flyers were one step ahead of every breakout and every pass. If it weren't for them being shorthanded and our PP the score would have been even more lopsided. 5 goals should be enough to win just about every game. With the two goal lead, it should have been time to switch to a different game plan, maybe (as boring as it is) a trap type defensive game. The free-wheeling, stretch passing, cross ice passes should have stopped when we were up by 2.
What's the long term plan? If the Flyers can figure the Pens system out, it's only a matter of time till every other team in the East does as well.
I wonder if Talbot had a long meeting with the coaches and dissected every aspect of the Pens game when he arrived.
The between period fools actually had a good comment when they said AO is a one dimensional player who continues to play to his strengths... all of which have been figured out by every team in the NHL, and unless he adjusts his game and works on his weaknesses he will be an average player.
I wonder if you had a good sit down with BBQ sauce Bordeaux what he would have to say about AO. Clearly an un-coachable player. It would make sense that upper management is giving AO the run of the team, thus making the team un-coachable, with shitty results.
Damn, Chara even had a shot from the stands. What a human.
I think the meaning behind that line refers to the fact that the Flyers thought they would get the cup upon beating the Pens. They didn't realize they had three more rounds to play.
For the past couple years I've had all that you have. Root Sports Pitt you will get to see the pre-game, but the games are blacked out. NHL Network will play the games, most of the time it's Erry and Steigy... but sometimes it's NHL announcers or the other team's announcer. And they will not show any between period interviews or clips. NBC Sports I fucking hate because all the commentators and between period annalists suck asshole. Therefore, on national games (more then half of them this year) you don't know what you're going to get. It gets incredibly frustrating.
I find myself at times wishing the pens would start sucking again so that they would get out of the national spotlight. I can see how if you're not a Pens fan how sickening it would be that 50% of the time it seems there's a pens game on nationally. The anticipation here in MN for the wild this year is incredible... I would have thought this first game is national broadcast worthy... however its a local game to be broadcast 9pm Pittsburgh time. Nobody will be watching it nationally... because they cant - instead half the country will be forced to watch the Pens, even if they don't want to.
@nikbronder @floorlizard @NickDobda
Local NBC here in MN is running the Chicago / LA game which has the same start time. I won't be around to watch the live game. Does anyone know will there be a re-broadcast on gamecenter on Sunday, or are the rebroadcasts gone too?
Reading further... so they blackout NBC, NHLN, VS games on gamecenter too? What a F'n joke... so I guess I'm just screwed if I wanted to watch the game live on Saturday?
So the pens game this Saturday is a national game broadcast on NBC... as such it won't be on center ice. Unfortunately, here in MN they will be broadcasting the Kings / Blackhawks game. Which means if i get center ice, it will be impossible to watch the Pens opener. This happened only one other time last year (the only game I missed all year). Looking at the schedule, it's likely to happen again in a few weeks.
This is the main reason Im going to get Gamecenter Live. From the looks of it, I would have been able to watch the game. Turns out I have plans Saturday afternoon, so I would have had to DVR it... which again would have been impossible in this case. As part of the gamecenter live, you can watch a re-broadcast the next day, which is what I will do.
On top of that, I love to watch the local broadcasts with Steigy and Erry. I get to see the between periods stories, most of which are from the pens pre-game show anyway. With the Pens being "America's Team" and over half of the rest of their games this year being national (either NBC, VS, or NHLN), I wouldn't get to see any between periods stuff... and half the time have to listen to the away broadcasters. I'm assuming with gamecenter, I'll always get to listen to Steigy and Erry, and hope I can watch between periods stuff (can anyone confirm this?)
So Ill state the obvious, someone probably said it at some point even in this post.
I think you deserve to get hit over the head with a baseball bat if you think headshots have a place in the game of hockey.
"bravo Trever Gilles" Are you serious? Even if you somehow think that forearm shivers to the head have aplace in the game, it is currently against the rules. That statement is similar to a news reporter saying "bravo Lee Harvey Oswald".
Dude should be chastised by any respectable analyst. Or dude should be shit on by regular people like me.
Welcome back to reality Pittsburgh (myself included). Right now is a bump in the road and it sucks, but I still won't miss a game. Maybe if this continues ticket prices will come back down to reality and Ill be able to go to a pens game when Im back in town. Maybe if this continues, a third of the games wont be nationally telivised and I wont be forced to listen to NBC announcers and between period bull.
Recall the Rico Fata years when Eddie O was the Bob Errey in the booth, and we were wearing our KO gear T shirts hoping Barnaby would make the night interesting... and Hatcher was the enforcer... and Morosov was as close to Malkin as the team got ...
Its been awhile since I fell asleep during the second period and didn't care that I missed anything.
Beto's Pizza on Banksville road. Best / most unique pizza in the world. On the way between the airport and the arena too.
After the game go to the Original up in Oakland. Get the small fries if its just the two of you.
