Central PA country boy with a serious hockey problem. Go Pens.
Tough to say about Sundqvist. On a night where he really needed to step up, he had his worst game of the preseason. He'll be a solid player someday, but I don't think it's now.

I'll never forgive Shero if he trades Despres. The kid is going to be a stud.

Throwing in the towel on Tangradi. I've been an unabashed supporter of the kid, but it's obvious that this either isn't the right system for him, or he's just an AHL lifer ala Alex Grioux.

@RentedMule I read somewhere that with Nash/Semin still available it could drive the price for Ryan down. Obviously I'm no GM, so it remains to be seen.
2 years, 3 months ago on LINK CITY: Development camp, Bobby Ryan rumors heat up. | July2012
@Flip True, but the Pens didn't get a top 6 forward. They got a bottom 6 forward, a pick, and a prospect.
The Staal trade is probably the template for a deal. If the Ottawa Sun is to be believed, the Ducks wouldn't want to take a bunch of salary back. If the NHL play HAS to be a 2nd line center, than no, the Pens can't pony up. But if there is some flexibility they could put something together. I feel like a 2nd line center is a little steep for a guy who has publicly said he wants out.
@Jasp That has been his role up to this point. He has earned better than that with his play. CFA played 82 games and had 18 points. Staal played 62 games and had 50 points. No comparison. @Rage
2 years, 4 months ago on Staal rumors won't go away | June2012
@Rage Those numbers in a year that 87 missed significant time. In a year where Crosby is healthy, Staal won't get 20 minutes. It'll be more like 17 minutes, and mostly checking/PK/2nd PP time. Don't you think he's earned better than that?

The Pens don't need Crosby right now, as much as they need SOMEONE to score goals. 5 goals in the last 4 games, and 1 goal in each of the last three games just isn't going to get it done.

@Dapper_Dan_Man@STFD@Cruxen Engelland can be that guy too, and Letang can get nasty. There are guys who can take the body. Totally agree about Cooke though. I don't think he's nearly as effective as he once was.

@Billgates I would also argue that Letestu is, in fact, a 4th line center. He was invisible from about December on last season.
3 years ago on Morrow, Williams, Picard & Strait Cut | Oct2011
@Billgates I think 71 to the wing was an awful experiment. Keep him at C.
@Billgates Definitely forgot about Vitale. Vitale plays on the 4th line and Letestu up to 3.
I can relate to the 'Good Fuck.. Good Luck Finding' lady at the end of that video. I made the same mistake during a class in college once. Luckily the visiting Professor (from Germany) thought it was hilarious.

@LittleArtie @Savage_Beast Does his game really lend itself to third line duties? I'd rather have Cooke/Staal/Jeffrey on that line. They're all defensively gifted.
3 years, 6 months ago on Morning-After Pill: Easy to swallow | TPB
@TheCynic @GeneralSecretaryjlh The answer is Kovalev. Outside of Neal giving him a gift in game 1, Kovy was invisible except when he was taking a penalty.
Why in the holy shit do people think Malkin should be saddled with garbage wingers? Give him someone with some skill. Kunitz and Crosby were fantastic together this season. So good that you could put Pascal Dupuis on their line and they'd still score an ass-ton of goals. Why not even out the scoring lines a little. Put Neal with Malkin (who is nearly as good a setup guy as Sid) and put Staal on the 3rd line where he belongs.
Kunitz - Crosby - Whomever
Neal - Malkin - Tangradi (big line with the skill Malkin needs to be successful)
Cooke - Staal - Jeffrey (shut down city)
Adams - Letestu - Rupp
@orby @Savage_Beast Meh, why not? Like I said, Crosby was fine with Kunitz. I would rather they keep them together. Malkin needs to get going, however, and Neal is at his best with a guy who can get him the puck. Malkin can do that.
@TheCynic Let's also not forget that Crosby was scoring at about a 60 goal pace with Kunitz and Dupuis. Wouldn't you want to try to get Malkin going by putting him with Neal?
@eman41 I don't see any reason to rush him. It'll be his first pro year.
@matsif Why saddle Malkin with Cooke and Letestu. That has fail written all over it. Malkin needs guys with skill around him. He hasn't been the same since Sykora left.
@eman41 @orby I think Jeffrey with Cooke and Staal would be a sick 3rd line.
@orby Didn't Staal's performance as 'The Man' while 87 and 71 were out effectively end the' Malkin at wing' experiment. Malkin is a better offensive center than Jordan Staal.
@TheCynic Why? They're big and James Neal is at his best with a setup guy. Malkin needs to play with skilled players, Crosby does not.
Is it too early to start talking about lines/pairings for next season? So D and G are tied up for next season. A bunch of openings at forward, though.
Kunitz - Crosby -
Neal - Malkin - Tangradi
Cooke - Staal -
- Letestu -
Niskanen - Lovejoy
Let's ease off the Big Dog. Kid is 22 and had never played in the NHL playoffs. I'm one of the biggest Tangradi guys out there, but c'mon guys. I hope I'm wrong and you can all say 'I told you so', but I don't think the kid will be a world beater if he's slotted into the lineup. I think it's more likely that Comrie plays. Experience could be a factor.
