This is a great article. However, something that's rare in the SNY booth is a three-man booth. Most of the time, only one of them is there working with Gary. I would say 40 games at most per season feature all three. That might help the longevity, too.

This could actually be a good market position, as sports seem to be a primary driver of cable prices. They're just going about it all willy-nilly.

I can see Callahan going to the end of the season with the Rangers unsigned, possibly signed before free agency opens. It doesn't seem to make sense to trade your captain as a contender, even if he does not necessary fit the mold of the team under the new coach.
@WaltGekko Da heck are you talking about? The games postponed by 9/11 were tacked onto the end of the season.

Why is there a live weigh-in scheduled for 1:00 a.m. in Boston?
Yeah, Stepan's first three years are a lot better offensively than Brassard's, but Brassard was a sixth overall pick and Stepan doesn't have leverage coming off his entry-level deal.
1 year, 8 months ago on Stepan Signing Will Likely Leave Deserving Players Off Roster
I'm just trying to paint a rosier picture. It's up to the coach on who exactly makes the roster, but with Powe and Asham as placeholders, that covers anybody in the mix, based on the younger players having bonus money in their cap number. Brassard received $2.8M and $3M in his fourth and fifth years and started at a higher number than Stepan, so $2.6 could be reasonable for one or two seasons.
If Stepan takes a short-term deal, does this seem like a reasonable roster expectation? http://capgeek.com/cap-calculator/roster/30353
Keeping Callahan and Hagelin at the bottom due to presumption of not being ready, meaning Powe and Asham on the roster for now. No idea about lines, and Miller is an obvious candidate as someone who can make the team over Powe/Asham.
It does not.
Yeah, you just did the addition for me. I just pointed out Pyatt as a comparison to show that there is a wild difference in calculation for each player. And now I think I figured out how it's calculated: every dollar above $925K still counts against NHL cap while the player is in the minors.
And because almost half of Kreider's and Miller's contracts, and a little of Moore's, are bonuses, the Rangers are allowed to be over the cap by that much, and if the full bonuses are paid, the charge can carry over to next season.
Remember, "buried" players still count against the cap at a lesser amount now. I have no clue how it's calculated, but according to CapGeek, Asham would count $75K and Powe $141,666 against the cap while in minors, whereas Pyatt, for example, would count for $625K. Of course, Asham or Powe could also be claimed on waivers.
