getting Havlat would reek of desperation. they shoud try some call ups for sure. lots of guys down there just begging for a chance. it's what made us so pesky last year, might nt be a long term solution but it's worth revisiting.

I like Bobby's reaction to it all but i hope they slack on him after he starts producing. you know the next big hassle is next summer until he signs an extension they're gonna be relentlessly harassing him on the subject.

I get the feeling that there's more to the story on O'brien that we've yet to hear. he seemed to have earned his spot last year and at one point in the season was taken out and never given a place again. my guess is Paul and jimmy must have headbutted somewhere. he's not a bad 4rth liner with some limited scoring capabilities. I also thought Edm would have taken a shot at him when he went through waivers.

That game vs the Panthers filmed on a toaster. hahaha, ya whenever i stream one of their games i feel like i'm watching footage from the 80's. hopefully the panthers new owners will invest some money into their broadcasting services and maybe get a couple of cams from the 90"s hopefully?

the great michalek debate... can he stay healthy. the bigger debate: if he stayed healthy he'd commend to much salary to re-sign if he can't then the organization will part ways. trading him after his 35 goal season might have been the best decision that was never made, would the organization trade him now with another prospect to grab someone else? if he can start the season healthy might be an option.
michalek + for Vanek? dare to dream...

1st: when are we getting more podcast?
2nd: we've gotten to the point where we have "too much depth" at the forward ranks. if we start loosing prospects due to waivers we'll have gained nothing from it. we're at a point when it's going to start making more sense to trade these guys for late round picks if we have to. I don't want to lose any of them like bryan but we're on the verge of losing Dacosta amongst others. my worries are that i don't want our organization to become a farm team for the rest of the NHL.

what are you taking about replacing alfie? we've got silf preping to be that right now! ;) ok, i'm not completely serious but with the amazing drafting BM's done over the year lots is coming up in the pipeline. IMO Noeson is the next candidate to impress us that's coming. both ZIb and Silf have made a case for themselves this season as to why they should not be traded and considered part of the new core(well zib had been speculated by many maybe Silf less)
we've still got quite a few pieces coming up. you might be able to trade Michalek int he summer if healthy in a package with some youth. we need that top line winger still and a top 4 D could go a long way. do we sacrifice Ceci+ to aquire something along the lines of Boyle? maybe Bogosian will ask for lots of money and short term in order to reach the UFA market faster. that's a trade candidate if you ask me. that's someone you might package Ceci, prospect + pick for.
top line winger might prove a little harder.
plus who knows what we pick up at the draft

@S_Church Ya i think that's the reasoning also. I'm not sure we'll get another year where andersson performs this well. then again I'd trust more the organization next year having a tandem of andersson and lehner. then with Bishop. it's starting to look that with a healthy team we could possibly be already a team making deep forays into the playoffs.

no way do the sens deal anything within the division. nada, not happeneing.
one also likes to think that even with a production drop and the rise of another prospect to being our top center Jason would make a fantastic second line center. If we are serious about winning the cup we should seriously consider holding on to as many top centers we may have within our organization.
As far as MM is concerned if we can maintain the course of a rebuild then trading him for a 1st and a top prospect would go a long way. It would be easier to find a replacement for Milan within or outside the organization. be it with filatov finding his game or the progression of one of our top picks wthin the next couple of years.

whatever happened to the podcasts????
On the topic of Jason IMO you cannot deal a player with that skill set until you are sure you have a replacement within the organization. In today's NHL it's the hard reality that having a number one center(dare I say Elite) is a luxury only half the teams are lucky enough to have? We might be able to draft one this summer but until that happens we'd have to hang on to Spezza. Even then, we'd have to wait till we'd see a steady enough progression in our projected center. Seriously with Jason on board for another 3 years we could hold up till the final year of his contract to see if moving him is an option. granted he might not be playing the way he is now but he's shown in the last 12 months an improvement in his game. I'd be inclined to believe that the maturity he's shown wouldn't decline so fast. He e may never hit 90pts again but i'd rather have him hit 70-80pts and not be a liability on the ice. wait till his last year, then before it starts enter contract negotiations or trade negotiations.
After all the negative lashing Jason's received in this city he might not want to continue playing here.
i don't think having a zero in the front of a jersey will do good for the sens. just waiting for the jokes to roll in as we lose games.

you guys were hilarious! Ken hitchcock as the cool-aid man! I nearly dropped my laptop! Oh no!!! oh yeaaaahhh. LOL
seriously I think this is the year to give a go at a bunch of our projects and prospects. if it fails we're looking at high draft picks anyway(which iI agree we are not a playoff team, not even bubble). So you have to try and put filatov and butler on the sides of spezza. If anyone on the team can help them along it's Jason. then you have the opposite with our 2C "situation" that being Regin or Zib youn insulate them between Alfie and michalek.(hoping you keep both out of injury) then again we have Greening or Foligno that can step up if one gets injured.
there's so many "if's" on this team but like i said what's the worst that can happen? high draft pick... at any rate this season is exciting we have youth fighting for time on ice and plenty of positive maybes out there. more excitement and better then the last few years.
PS: nash has only once has nash scored 40 goals and had 79 points. every other season he's stayed bellow 70. he is playing on an undermanned team...

you made me smile. It's great that most ottawa fans and bloggers are on the same page about the draft, but it would be nice to have certain media get behind it. apparently Dreger had good things to say. Anyways it doesn't matter we'll have the last laugh.

hey harvey03 I completely agree with the point you're making. There's no reason to believe Andersson will stay healthy this year. Every year we see goaltenders going down. Every year we see teams scrambling for a goaltender. MY best bet would be Harding personally. here's a guy that's young and able to compete for the number 1 position if need be. If memory serves me right he's also the guy who took backstrom job a couple of years back before going down with injuries also. We might have lehner coming up the ranks but there's no reasoning as to why we shouldn't have 3 goaltenders that could possibly be a number 1. we also have one thing woring for us in all this. sure there's others in line to bring in another goalie but A: we can make it our priority come july 1 and jump on him with an offer first. B: we've got lots of cap space therefore we might be able to overpay a little and offer him a deal for 2 years. C: lehner is 1 or 2, possibly 3 years before making the jump full time to ottawa. therefore Harding's place would be pretty much assured here guaranteeing he wouldn't fall down the line behind him during his contract. If somehow we can't land him we might want to go for Conklin, Turco or even leighton. the later I'm sure we'd be able to get for close to nothing off the flyers.

CTRL C, CTRL V. classic and so true. good write up guys. very happy myself.
It's been said that Noeson is compared to Corey Perry . Although I'm not going to make these wild assumptions based only on the fact that I haven't heard he's go that much offense in him, I have read they see him as a very raw prospect that still has alot to learn. I don't like the projection either of him being a good 3rd liner.sure that's a very safe projection but probably the lowest one.
I'll be more then satisfied if he turns into a solid second liner. let's hope the Perry comparison doesn't follow him too much... but I guess we'll secretly be hoping.

this is looking like a solid,SOLID coaching team set up for us. will it translate into a success? there's no way to tell. there's reason to believe that it should do to the winning pedigree of the personnel brought together. For once in about 3 years I feel comfortable and optimistic about the coaching future of the organization. Let's hope this can be turned into what the wings have built.
