we want more info on Melnyk's meeting with the minister! that's bigger news then any trades we've had today. ;)
I dunno, seems to me like he's just talking and hasn't got a clue what BM is really going to do. BM is a smart man, I doubt he puts any assets into a rental but some teams clear out players now that waiting in the summer might get them thinking again on how they might fair in a new season. and this may be a good time to buy low on stewart or ehrhoff. truth be told, there are never that many players ever available. teams like to cut bait at this time of year, we go after players with term, we part ways with Phillips... and that big rumor of Neil going to colorado, hahaha, rumors will be rumors.

@Madmonk81 ahead of stone and hoffman? I don't think so.
Truth be told is Prince is a bit of a longer term prospect. i think they imagined he'd be going back to the AHL next season and prove he produce even more then.
again, he could very well be a piece to a trade. like stated not all our players will get a chance to make the big show with this team.
the problem i see with this is that these prospects think they're untitled to get a shot. I'd tell them "listen kids, you're young, be happy you're in this system that will give you a shot, if it was detroit you wouldn't get one till you close in on 25." too much entitlement.

I also have no problem with bromance between alfie and karls.
C'mon, are people expecting them to be pissed at each other? if anything it might be a good thing, i'm sure Alfie is mature enough to let Karls go his on way. it's probably no secret what happened this summer and this won't change any of that information.
Melnyk is the one that needs to submit an internal apology to the players. this debacle could of been adverted.

personally i think the best deadline move we could make is trade for Alfie. zetterberg is out for the season, i have my doubts the wings make the playoffs. in the same move Melnyk should sell the team in order to facilitate this transition of Alfie coming home.
Melnyk is quietly killing this team.
it's been said over and over again. must part ways with spezza. it's not rocket science.

I'll buy Murray the finnest bottle of baby duck on the market if he can secure Bobby Ryan for 6.5 for 8 mill!
1 month, 1 week ago on Impending UFAs Asking for Big Money Contracts - A Look to Ottawa's Future
most of your comparative contracts are from guys that have signed those contract years ago. the market is evolving and contracts are getting higher. the newer ones, marleau's production is looking to decrease. just watch how much Vanek will get this summer.
again you base what your saying on what you expect players should get. that is not the common philosophy in the NHL if you want to compete you better be offering similar value to what the other teams are offering, or else they will walk. this team cannot affoard to let ryan walk after having traded a 1st, noeson and silf. it would reset us back in the rebuild a couple of years.
how on earth are you going to find another 30 goal scorer? there isn't really one coming up through the organization, you will pay a lot more through FA (that;s if you can convince one to come to ottawa as opposed to another organization.
I don't know if you missed the memo after the last CBA but the only extra leverage teams have to keep free agents is the fact they possess the right to offer a 8th year on a contract to a player within their org.
B you're comparing old dollars to new dollars. before the CBA players making 6+ were superior athletes, now clarcksons of this world get 6. to retain a guy that is a borderline top 6 almost scoring 20 per season you have to pay 4 mill per. a guy like kessel gets 8-9 mill a year. you're forgetting a guy like bobby ryan is putting up 30 + every year. not an anomaly where he has great contract year, EVERY YEAR. so far playing him with turris and mac has put him on pace for 30 again. if you call that a failed experiment and expect him more a complete player then he is you might be expecting generational or elite players to grow on trees. this is by far one of BM's best move in ottawa yet.
this is the NHL in 2014. the bidding starts at 7 mill.
if you think they can get bobby Rye to sign for 7 mill or less you are day dreaming. it's not about what he's gonna have done in terms of production with highs and lows, it's going to be about how much he CAN get on the open market. we're going to have to match those expectation and tack an 8th year on that contract. no if and buts. that's just the way it is.
Boyes would cost us very little. looks and smell like a BM trade. i'd rather have him than hemsky... at least he'll probably play till the playoffs. hemsky will most likely succumb to injury.
O'Reilly is optimal and probably therefore not a possibility. Kulikov is a huge question mark, not sure a Russian is actually on the cards Murray is holding.

and Hemsky get hurt before we even get into the playoffs. I'm sure if BM pulls that trade there will be preliminarily contract talks with Moulson involved.
1 month, 1 week ago on Senators Interested in Matt Moulson?
let's face it, if a guy like bobby ryan moves on it reflects on the ownership unwillingness to spend to make this team better. the murrays have tried all they coud to make this franchise competitive. how many times this season have we heard that BM couldn't complete trades due to our inability to swallow a cap hit.
it's all becoming quite clear who the problem is in ottawa and the only one that can remove that from the equation is himself.
as for Jason Spezza i would think we could still get a descent return at the trade deadline but i doubt that will happen, maybe this summer?
2 months ago on Tim Murray - The Next GM of the Buffalo Sabres
getting Havlat would reek of desperation. they shoud try some call ups for sure. lots of guys down there just begging for a chance. it's what made us so pesky last year, might nt be a long term solution but it's worth revisiting.
3 months, 2 weeks ago on Consistently Inconsistent
I like Bobby's reaction to it all but i hope they slack on him after he starts producing. you know the next big hassle is next summer until he signs an extension they're gonna be relentlessly harassing him on the subject.
5 months ago on Panic, What Panic?: Bobby Ryan is going to be fine
I get the feeling that there's more to the story on O'brien that we've yet to hear. he seemed to have earned his spot last year and at one point in the season was taken out and never given a place again. my guess is Paul and jimmy must have headbutted somewhere. he's not a bad 4rth liner with some limited scoring capabilities. I also thought Edm would have taken a shot at him when he went through waivers.

That game vs the Panthers filmed on a toaster. hahaha, ya whenever i stream one of their games i feel like i'm watching footage from the 80's. hopefully the panthers new owners will invest some money into their broadcasting services and maybe get a couple of cams from the 90"s hopefully?

the great michalek debate... can he stay healthy. the bigger debate: if he stayed healthy he'd commend to much salary to re-sign if he can't then the organization will part ways. trading him after his 35 goal season might have been the best decision that was never made, would the organization trade him now with another prospect to grab someone else? if he can start the season healthy might be an option.
michalek + for Vanek? dare to dream...

1st: when are we getting more podcast?
2nd: we've gotten to the point where we have "too much depth" at the forward ranks. if we start loosing prospects due to waivers we'll have gained nothing from it. we're at a point when it's going to start making more sense to trade these guys for late round picks if we have to. I don't want to lose any of them like bryan but we're on the verge of losing Dacosta amongst others. my worries are that i don't want our organization to become a farm team for the rest of the NHL.
