@BlamTheJamBox @WallyWorld @Daddyfatsax It will be interesting to see if Zach (Zack? Zac? Zak?) can translate his game to the NBA and if he is coachable (most important factor). Unfortunately the quality of coaching is not great here. Rubio will help though, he is a heady basketball player.Anyway, I have concluded that UCLA gets really good players because of the sun, campus, basketball history (Wooden!), girls, etc. and that their coaching really sucks. How else do you explain Russell Westbrook, Kevin Love, Darren Collison, Jrue Holiday, etc. etc. etc. going through there in the last 10 years and *no* titles. Comeonnowguysthisisgettingridiculous.

@Daddyfatsax Bill Duffy is officially the second member of the Milt Newton All Stars (Flip/GT country club members whose names lead you to assume they are old cranky white dudes when they are not).
Like the write up though. I think Randle is too high and Gordon is too low (*way* too low), I have Gary Harris and Stauskas higher than Lavine, but it's definitely a good list. Jordan Adams and Jahii Carson are a couple other guys that could be sleepers. Carson could be a Nate Robinson type guy or a JJ Barea guy, Jordan Adams is an athletic combo guard. Nick Johnson is a guy who might stick with someone as a 2nd rounder (streaky bomber, think Jason Terry). Good stuff dude.

Yo bud, it's "Embiid" with a D.
Wolfenstein confidently claimed last night that Peter Vescey is a washed up douche.

@WallyWorld @roundhouse Roundhouse is right on this one dude. Sounds like Flip is making "new GM" noise, which is always good.
1 year, 2 months ago on Trade Up From #9? Unlikely
Utah dealt #6 plus other assets for #3 (Deron Williams) in 2005, so change "Year-o" to rhymes with "FUN." Also, there have been a ton of trades involving top 5 picks in the last 10 years. LaMarcus Aldridge for Tyrus Thomas in 2006 (#2 for #4 + assets) and Emekak Okafor for Shaun Livingston in 2004 (also #2 for #4) are almost identical to the Love-Mayo swap. Devin Harris + assets for Antawn Jamison in 2003 and Ray Ray for Jeff Green et al in 2007 were also examples. This has happened almost every year until the salary cap changed in (2008?) and teams started taking advantage of the rookie scale more.
@CollegeWolf @WallyWorld Do we have a positive confirmation? I'll be pissed if this is fake.

According to Kahn, they haven't talked with the Lakers since the summer. May be LA sportswriters, agents, or someone else trying to stir up interest.
LEE is the best player EVA.

If he weren't so so so much more skilled at basketball than I am, I'd call it luck.

That was one of those "really good players get lucky more often than the really shitty ones" shots... like Duncan's split-leg bank shot 3 pter in the playoffs about 5 years ago.
I respect AK more than LeBJ or Kobe.
But then they would lose the whitewash on the court... which I just noticed at this last timeout.
I would trust Barea 10x more in this situation than Ridnour.
Love needs to get his Olympic "stop bitching and play" switch flipped back on again.
Ridnour is a very good backup PG. He is the least clutch PG of all time though.
Nice hedge, Love.
Easy. He's competing for minutes with the G.O.A.T. aka Malcolm Leezy.
Shved is a stone cold killa.
We're on the highway to the danger zone.
LEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! GET BUCKETS.
He's playing the CunningHAM game. Works for me. Shoot midrange jumpers and dunk. That's really all we need him to do.

@CollegeWolf Not as good as AK.
Wait, did he leave with injuries or did he just get pulled because he can't shoot a jumpshot?
1 year, 8 months ago on 11/14/12 Bobcats @ Wolves Preview/Game Thread
Make MKG make the shot, although he's probably their next best shot in that situation. Leave Ty Thomas wide open under the basket, he's a spaz.
Agreed. They should have doubled Kemba to force the ball to someone else. Anyone else. He is their only clutch player.
Kemba is clutch. Williams... uh. Previous statements withdrawn.
...AND COMPLETELY REDEEMS HIMSELF!
Just when I think Ridnour couldn't be any more of a pushover on Defense, he goes and does something like this.
AK for King of Earth.
@Daddyfatsax @CollegeWolf Shved needs to shoot us back into this game.
So here's the thing about Williams... He's actually really close to actually being good. He just doesn't make shots, doesn't catch the ball... he's his own worst enemy for sure. He's pretty similar I think to Evan Turner. 3-10 is still brutal, but he's not making bad choices, you know? He seems to take coaching well.
AK for President.
@CollegeWolf @DaddyfatsaxI would totally take Gerald Henderson, although he would render Malcolm Lee redundant.
@Daddyfatsax @CollegeWolf I was actually impressed by Williams' passing last night. Also, more injured than the Blazers? Eh.

Also, the number of positive things that I have seen Barea, Roy, and Kirilenko do in the 2 minutes since I finally got to watch this game are astonishing.

Solid write up my dude. Just one question... did they change the rules this year??? It would appear that they now allow you to exert effort when our opponents have the ball, as well as when we do. I am confused by this sudden change of rules and/or strategy.
@Daddyfatsax And I fully support your @leezy3 marketing campaign on twolvesblog. Kid deserves a shot if he works for it.
1 year, 11 months ago on Will the Wolves' Defense Improve in 2012-13?
@Daddyfatsax He was my pet player when I was trying to convince you all that he compared comparably in the combine to Westbrook. Bwahahaha. I have hopes for a poor man's Avery Bradley type role for him though.
@Daddyfatsax @WallyWorld I don't even know that I've seen @leezy3 play, but he is irrationally one of my favorite T-wolves bench guys. He is athletic as a mofo. He's no Westbrook, unfortunately though.
@CollegeWolf Fair enough. But did you realize that Kirilenko blocked way more shots between ages 22-25 than Patrick Ewing? Chew on that for a while. He's never averaged less than 1.0 blocks OR steals per game in any season, including the 2010-2011 season with Utah. I'm looking forward to legit defense from at least one guy on the court even when RR is injured.
@CollegeWolf AK at his best was a top 5 defender. Super underrated, the guy averaged almost 5 BLK+STL per game (!) for 3 years in a row in his prime. He led the league in BS in 2004-05, was second the next year, and was in top 5 in both BLK and STL in 2003-2004. Plus he has that long, gangly, bony defensive presence that just makes him a pain in the ass to play against. No idea how he'll translate back in the NBA this year but in his prime he was a top shelf defender.I'd feel way better if he was our 6th guy or maybe 7th, but he's at least a solid starter to plug in if he can stay on the court.
Good article dude. However, Ridnour isn't a good defensive player. At all. He's a very competent offensive player and an outstanding jump shooter. His defense is mediocre. He doesn't move his feet very quickly and his hands hang down by his knees too much.
I agree with you about Shved's D from what I saw, too much Beasley in him, not being aware of what's going on around him. That could change of course with good coaching (Shved is young) and also Shved does a better job than Luke of getting his hands up and creating turnovers.
Lee has the potential to be a solid stopper off the bench if he dedicates himself (he's young, athletic, hungry, and was known as a defender at UCLA). Haven't seen enough of him to know and I'm not sure we will this year with Adelman.
Kirilenko will be a solid to plus defender when he's healthy. That much is a given.
Roy... I have no idea what to expect. Portland's voodoo witch doctors are remarkably adept at ending careers with nagging injuries, so he has to regain something just by staying the hell away from the Rose City. It will be fascinating to see what he brings to the table.
Rubio fortunately doesn't rely on his lateral quickness for his D but instead on hustle, smarts, and his freaky-deaky long arms. I don't foresee his knee injury giving him too much trouble except when matching up with the Russell Westbrooks and the Derrick Roses of the league. And.. I mean, don't they all have trouble with those matchups?
@Nate Hughart @CollegeWolf Zach Randolph probably. Amare. Maybe Duncan and KG still. Guys like Brand, Boozer, and Horford? All of those guys have a far longer track record. Pek is right there with most of them if not better, but he's had 3/4 of a short season playing at that high of a level. Tough to call him "the best" low post scorer. For half of last season he may have been that. I'm optimistic, but Pek's track record is shorter. Let's wait until teams have had a chance to plan for him to see how well he does under more normal conditions.

@WallyWorld @tcsnyder @CollegeWolf @jtshoopsblog Note: I'm not saying we *would* beat the Lakers in a playoff series, just that it is way more realistic than beating the Thunder.
