And if somehow he does, then something went seriously wrong somewhere.

@firefox91 Not necessarily. Could have just been the fact that in COL he'll play on the NHL squad the whole year, or at least more so than in PIT.

Could be totally true AND not a "bad" thing for PIT or what it is like to play there.

@firefox91 Disagree. The comments above say it well: he DIDN'T compete very well, and did not use the time or the linemates he was given to prove otherwise. He doesn't match up favorably against the new forwards the Pens have next season.

There's a reason COL gave him less than a million bucks and a two-way deal. And that he took it. He's an AHL player. That's the reason.

@popemasta @bobbykimberley Interesting. I wonder if that was a "playing time" decision (he has been back and forth, AHL and up, etc.) or a "I hate the Pens" type of thing. I'm guessing the former, but I'm not absolutely certain.

@brendannn Do you disagree that Spaling > Adams, Glass, Vitale, and several others we had employed in the bottom six?

Because from where I'm sitting Spaling > Adams+Glass+Vitale.

@Loo_Bakka @YorkPens  IMO Babcock might be the only true "upgrade" available. Where by "available" I mean "possible." If he wants to quit his contract, he certainly could. Might relish the chance to coach Sid. He's done it in two Olympics games already. And Malkin is a bonus. The Red Wings play a defensive oriented game with a very simple offensive scheme that includes a net-front presence.

I don't think Dan's a bad coach. I just think his "system" has its flaws, and he favors "grinding them down" without having *any people capable of grinding* (i.e. he favors speed over size).

@PatStuart The article from October of last year gives credence to the possibility of honesty here. If you have an opinion that just happens to align with your team's interests, that can often mean it's influenced, but is far from a guarantee (i.e. I don't think you can say "no doubt.").

I personally would not feel that there should be a one-game playoff if the Pirates were the away team with the worse record. I too didn't like it last year, and I won't like it in the future if the Pirates are not included in the wild card playoff game.

Your own argument goes far too extreme. A one-game playoff is won by the "worse" team at a much higher rate than a five- or seven-game series. So the argument is that a few playoff SERIES is still reasonably likely to crown the better team, while a one-game playoff is far less likely.

I live in Erie, have Root Sports Pittsburgh and KDKA, etc. (Pittsburgh local channels) with DirecTV (and NHL Network, and NBC Sports or whatever Versus is called now).

I have been able to watch almost every Pens game in the past. That changes this year? I don't care about other teams (i'm more a Pens fan than a hockey fan), so I need to buy Center Ice?

Appreciate any helpful answer(s) anyone can give.

When I see someone with such a good résumé coming to work for something like ROOT Sports Pittsburgh, it makes me wonder what he did to get such a massive DEMOTION. I mean, maybe he screwed the boss's daughter, and he's still a really, really capable director, in which case I'm pleased.

I still think the Kunitz goals - both - could have gone the other way pretty easily. On the first the puck continued the same vertical trajectory and still went in under the cross bar, so that tells me he didn't contact it above. On the second, the interference could be said to have occurred after the puck was headed in.

Either way I don't think I've ever seen a game where two disallowed goals are followed by real goals 30 seconds later. And by the same players both times: Kunitz disallowed, Neal scores.

This team is so boring, golf announcers tune in to watch when they need to fall asleep.

@Non No kidding. Thanks Captain Obvious. :-P

Could a team named "The Wild" be any less so?

@Russian_Blue Plenty of teams play the trap when they're up a goal or two, though, even if they don't full time.

@MattEager Let's get some Comeback Kid action going. Malkin, throw down a thousand bucks and win it in the third.

@Non @MattEager Yeah, I'm recording the game. If I was watching it I'd know Jose Three-or-more. :P

@MattEager Bah, yeah, just saw the stats. Scratch that thought, and indeed, that is worse.

This is against a goalie called up from the AHL? Typical. Why do these goaltenders always kick butt against the Pens?

I'm recording the game. Sounds like I might end up deleting it later, unwatched.

Goligoski, TK, Dupuis, Connor all talked about yesterday afternoon, some as being trade bait... and all four have solid nights. The players all read The Pensblog! ;-)

@Koz @twytch I think the ref meant - and I haven't seen it yet - it's either no goal or a penalty on the Caps. So Ovi can accept that he didn't score or he can take the penalty for interference.

@akus Agreed, quoting not critical. Messes with the timeline though, the nested comments. Would be nice to have the option of a flat or a nested view.
