@Laviator_ They showed the replay on TV. The official clock was clearly at 0.0 before the puck even entered the video frame let alone crossed the goal line.

@jammonstrald @jimbo69 Shot quality still matters.

That shot from the point is less likely to go in than the shot from the slot to a gaping part of the net.

@Beaube Nett Weak. Related? If you cannot comprehend someone preferring a professional doing his job over someone simply "jobbing" others for reasons beyond being "related" to them, well, I feel bad for you. No, I'm not related to DK. Never met him either. Don't even agree with a good chunk of his opinions. But I respect that he does the work of a professional.

My avatar's advice? "Crosswalk"? I modified it with a golf club and a computer, but… it's a crosswalk sign.

@SidneyBuddy No. It sealed the game, made up for the earlier non-call, and counts in the points standings just the same.

@Mr. Confidence @cblack66 The odds are not 1 out of 16. The 8th-place team's chances are lower than the Presidents' Trophy winner. So even when it is sixteen teams, some will be higher than 6.25% and some will be lower.

@40yearsafter @Summit0812 @iacas @testpensblog @rpatz91 Those articles definitely feels a tad… awkward. Gossipy. I agree. I don't like everything DK has to say, but I believe the guy does his work and has his sources and reports what he believes to be true based on that information.

But the response here on TPB to that "gossip" has to be with something substantial, something grounded in reality, not just throwaway pot shots like "Wonder what player’s character Dejan will try to dismantle next?" Please.

Weak sauce at best. If you're gonna comment, comment. The backhanded snide bullshit is just childish.

@thepensblog @iacas @testpensblog @rpatz91 Such predictable responses. Oh well.

It didn't ruin my weekend. The assumption that I care enough about TPB to let it ruin my hour let alone my weekend is bizarre. I was sharing an opinion. Just as DK did (though his is likely closer to "fact" than anyone else's here). TPB expressed their opinion. And y'all are doing that now too. Yippee! Opinion Party!

I simply miss the days when TPB was good, and was lamenting that fact. I believe that there's an honor code to simply being a human being, and TPB crosses that line (for example in slagging DK without having a shred of contrary evidence).

TPB's been bad for quite some time. These responses are good examples of why. The camaraderie is gone. Trolls like Craig Ross are allowed to run rampant (or is a TPB plant to draw out comments). It's like the site's run by Benjamin Buttons - the humor and intellect drops the longer the site exists. Yada yada yada…

Not everyone's bad. Jesse's posts are great, and belong on a site with more integrity than TPB. Slag on DK. Slag on the Pens, or "Player41" for hitting Jagr, or whatever else you want to do. I visit less and less, and by saying that you should not read that I want you to care about it, just that I'm getting to vent some frustration at the depths to which TPB has fallen.

I've argued against people running AdBlock in the comments. I've bought TPB merchandise, and supported the site for about as long as it's been in existence. But it's falling to the bottom of a deep, very good pile of Pens websites.

Good luck. I'm not going to stop visiting, not any time soon, but I do visit less and less.

@testpensblog @rpatz91 They "fill" the same way? :sigh: One of the two sites in question is written by a professional writer. Clue: it ain't the one that makes scatological references every other post.

Where are your sources citing that Despres did NOT have any off-ice issues? Where's your rebuttal article? Where's your insider information?

Oh, that's right, you have no access beyond what any normal fan can get on TV or surfing Twitter? Oh, man. What a bummer.

More and more TPB matters less and less. Which is sad, because in the heyday, it was pretty great.

@The66thDopefish Bennett is an odd duck. I feel like he has better skill and a higher ceiling than Brandon Sutter. He's been more physical lately. He's been going to the net more.

And yet management and HCMJ seem to like Sutter, despite his horrible metrics. If those are the lines it's almost like they're putting two bigger, firmer guys up there to give Sutter more time and space, without worrying about being physical himself.

Management's reluctance to bench Sutter or move him down to the fourth line (he doesn't really fit there either, though, to be fair) makes Bennett the odd man out, because he doesn't particularly "fit" in any of the lines.

Bennett - Spaling - Downie would be a fine third line. It's not a great "checking" line though if you want that kind of line.

@pawsbyandmeowkin @cblack66 It's been better, but many people feel that he's simply upgraded to a "C" from the "F" he got last year.

Also, 90% of the time, he just passes it to Despres. He's the opposite of a puck-moving D-man.

That end-to-end rush was weak. He didn't even encounter anyone until the blue line. The FAR blue line, and even then the D played like it was a Make-a-Wish kid whose wish was to score a goal against his favorite hockey team or something. Really weak.

Glad he's up, and looking forward to seeing him, but… that video doesn't support the case that he's talented.

I too like the bottom lines contributing. At times this year they've won the game, and those would have been losses last year.

@Juniorjunior I haven't seen anyone blaming the loss on the refs. Just pointing something out doesn't mean "100% blame, right there, this thing!"

And… the officiating was not "even." I can say that without "blaming" the refs for getting one point out of two games.

The theory about the reffing does not align with the Internet conspiracy theorists about how the Pens are favored everywhere they go because Gary loves Sidney or something.

Reffing is, far and away, the single most obnoxious, frustrating thing about NHL hockey. Not only is it inconsistent from the regular season to the post-season, it's not even consistent in the first and third periods, it's not consistent based on the names on the backs of the jerseys, it's not consistent from ref to ref, there are "make-up calls" and it's so routine it's almost expected, and a whole bunch of other things.

It's pathetic, and again, the single most obnoxious, frustrating thing about NHL hockey. The refs have - and regularly execute - far too much control.

Hit was clean. No question.

Malkin standing up for a teammate was fine. Worst (realistic) case is that he was risking one point (the Leafs MAY have tied it up), but he gained much more than that. He also didn't start whaling away with haymakers - he probably knows not to break his hand.

I'm also not entirely sure Malkin would have stood up if it was Comeau or Spaling instead of Horny. And I want Spaling to succeed, but I don't know that he'd have cared as much.

@Bandwagon Fan 4401 You guys are nuts if you think he won't be picked up. Therrien didn't win a Cup with the same Pittsburgh team, had them out of the playoffs after being in the SCF, etc. and now he's coaching another team, after all. Terrible coaches are recycled all the time. Good ones (or those perceived to be good) are picked up quickly. He'd be coaching right now if the Pens hadn't waited so long to fire him.
