I'm not saying the players are being fair demanding that many years, but clearly it's a negotiating tactic. The fact that Hank got so many years is clearly the benchmark - and by no means should G or Cally demand anything less, at least initially. These two have carried our team just as much. I don't care how much less affective Girardi has been in the new system or how much more injury prone Cally is. They've carried us and are still anchors of this Ranger team. Letting any of these guys go will be a MAJOR mistake - possibly as bad as the Flyers trading Carter/Richards (although a completely different scenario). We still dwell on the Artie/Dubi trade, and to be honest those players are still exactly what they were with us, which wasn't enough (although Dubi's heart and soul is definitely missed).

Unless we get 2 first rounders and a top-4 defenseman from a team for Girardi, you sign this man for 5 years. Everyone complained about buying Ruchards out last year and as I said - cap aside - that would have been a huge mistake. Do not let years of hard work go to waste. The Rangers haven't had home growns since.......well I won't even point out the obvious.

Lock our boys up and let them concentrate on the game, or watch one of these guys hoist the damn cup before our beloved Rangers get a chance to.

You all screamed bloody murder last year and mark my fuccin words: I said Richards would bounce bzck, as he as. You're all looking for scapegoats. We need a trade to shake things up. A core player that will bring in a pure goal scorer that can play the 1st and 2nd line. I've had enough of all of this blog. You all talk so much shit, but we have 6 of the same players. What do you expect? Honestly, enough of the shit. Brasser is a 3rd liner and top PP guy, while you have to waive the dead weight llike Pyatt and Pouliat. Pathetic.

Why are you even mentioning defensemen in this post? Literally nothing to do with this move.

A little steep? Look at his numbers over the past 2 years. He's trending way up, he's young, he's fast. AV will let him loose in his system. Only downside is he'll command more after those 2 years. Perfect "bridge" contract for the Rangers.

I'm very obviously being optimistic, that being said, I find it hard to believe anyone else has his upside/experience if things go well. If he winds up in Dallas killing it with Torts - while we're missing a center - it'll be a hard pill to swallow. Even as a 3rd line center ($ aside), who do we have that's better? His level of production (or lack of) has created opportunity for Step and Brass. V will be good for him and look for his leadership. The intangibles matter too. Sick of all the hate.

Honestly, he'll bounce back and be fine under the new coach, but hey keep it up with the buy out talk - we'll be looking for depth that isn't out there, while Brad is putting up numbers elsewhere on the cheap. Stop being so NY, give it this one last year. Enough with the cap talk, Sather will work his way around that in the coming year.

@Betweentheworlds I agree. With the addition of Zucc and Fast going to the Whale (possibly), we have some fat to trim.

I hope he puts up 80-90 points next season, just to shut everyone up. I'd love to hear what everyone has to say once that happens.

Unbelievable, he goes down and we're just completely shorthanded, but then when he's in there the complaints are just as consistent.

I know we're paying him a lot, but the guys in the worst slump of his career, it's a shortened season, and our coach changes the lines every second. Take a step back and look at our bottom 6 forwards that have produced roughly 12 points thus far, COMBINED - That my friends is the problem. You can grind it out all you want, but at some point that puck needs to hit the back of the net.

@Jbianco His assists are way up from his career totals per season. If this were a full season, he'd be a 30/30 guy. I'd take that over a 40/20 guy. I'd rather him make others around him better and score the goals.

Totally against trading him.

If this were a full season, he'd be on pace to score 30. Unless we're trading for someone like Bobby Ryan, keep him. We need people that can at least give us some sort of goal scoring. Also, I know he's here to score goals, but since we moved him to the left wing, his assists are way up. Have to give credit to him somewhere. Plus, he's always been a streaky goal scoring kind of guy. You want to put the blame somewhere, how about the secondary scoring? Halps, Boyler, Pyatt & MIller . They are all over due. Working hard, yes, but at a certain point you have to get it going. We have some good grinders at the bottom 6, they just need to get the offense going.

@slapshot13j Also Clowe, really? I get the financial aspect, but give me a break. We need to win within the next few years and these guys have been stuck in the purgatory known as the second round of the playoffs (at best).

@slapshot13j Trading Gabs is a bad idea. Maybe it makes sense financially, but you need guys like that. Even when he's older he'll be a threat. Look at Hossa - You need a sniper like that in the line up. He may not be Rick Nash, but he's still putting in 40 goals a year. Only reason why Marleau's numbers are where they're at is because he has a guy like Thornton setting him up for a long time. If Gabs had a consistent center for more multiple seasons, who knows what kind of numbers he would have. I'm not even going to address the fact that he's on the LW this year, and quite frankly he's adjusting just fine; considering how bad someone like Ovie's looked since changing positions.

Honesty, anyone who thinks he needs to be bought out after struggling for literally 10-15 games needs a reality check. This is typical of NY fans. Yes, Richards has been awful of late, but as the article points out look at how clutch he can be. He will find his way. To compare him to Scott Gomez is absolutely insulting. Gomez was put in a role he was never going to fill. Richards is a solid vet that's necessary on this young team. Enough with the buyout talk, tons of other things we can harp on. It's completely out of line to keep bringing up the idea of buying him out. We do the same thing with Gabby year in and year out. Meanwhile, the guy is producing 40 goals a season, yet we're STILL on him every inch of the way. I'm a born and bread New Yorker, I get this is how it works, but give it a rest. Richards and Gabby need to produce end of story. I get that our entire team is a free agent come 2014, but the buying out Richards concept is a mute point. Why can't we talk about the real issue? As in, 3 of our guys go down cause of hard hits and NO ONE stands up for them - NO ONE. Stu Bickel used to fight every game and he comes in now with a completely worthless effort most nights, why? Asham, well, why would he fight, right? Fighting isn't everything, but you can't let these teams hit our top guys. Dubi wouldn't have let it fly. Someone has to take responsibility. I can't even believe a guy like Mashinter comes up and doesn't get in a scuffle.

Someone is telling the team to concentrate on other things, meanwhile, they're not even exceling at that. How about we show them the video from last year? Show them how to have heart, how to play the game like you want to win the fucking Stanley Cup.
